Poem - Does God Need Us?

Updated on January 13, 2011

What if Earth Disappeared?

What if the Earth vanished?
What if the book disappeared?
What if all life stopped
Would God reappear?

Is God an idea?
Or is God real?
Must you fight so hard?
Why from love must you steal?

Are you defending him?
Or does he need defending from you?
Why are the voices so loud
Where is the picture he drew?

Do you believe God is really there?
Do you believe man can kill God?
Why must you take up arms
And defile the holy ground he trod?

Is this what you believe?
In a God everlasting?
Then turn the other cheek
And from anger begin fasting

From the mountain tops
We see the valley of oppression
It fills with our tears
As we drown in man's obsession

Does God need man?
Or a garden on a stone?
Must we kill everyone
Or leave everyone alone?

The emotion of man
Invisible to the eye
Controlling our every action
To this God will reply

Did he know you?
I wonder if he does
Do you know him?
Now is the time if there ever was

@Elefanza - that is an interesting thing what that little girl said because the Christian God appears to be a jealous sort. When I think of being made in God's image I think of emotions as opposed to our physical self and as I understand jealousy it would appear that the jealous person would indeed be ecstatic to join with the object of their desire.

We can liken it to a parent's love for their child along with the intense desire for the child to fully embrace all we say and do.

I've not seen "The Box" but I'll watch for it...

Good hub! Having read the Bible, read some mystical writings, and being acquainted with friends who have that mystical/spiritual connection with God that I myself don't fully understand, I found one of the more interesting ideas they've (and the OT) presented is that God longs for each person. One girl told me she had the realization that God was so ecstatic for her to be in heaven because it would mean they would finally be fully together.

It might seem strange depending on your background and any number of good skeptical thoughts can be raised about it, I suppose -- esp. by people who have never felt that. Yet considering the idea of God in love with people individually/collectively just as people fall in love with each other always seemed interesting. Even though so much seems to conflict with that perspective, it always seems like God should have his/her/it's own literary voice (and maybe a PR person and lawyer while at it? You think God would ever hire a lawyer?) I don't know what perspective God would take on it all, but it's sobering sometimes to think about it. Anyway, good hub. This kind of reminded me of The Box. Have you seen it? You might enjoy it. It's odd and makes you think about this society. Love that kind of stuff.

You Sir, have truly been blessed by Him, with such an awsome Heart, Mind, and Soul, and yes too, many other fine personal attributes, that all can come to admire, and appreicate, and enjoy, as I do, reading Your Works!

Keep Writing Sir, Keep Going! Is My prayer for you this day!

It seems the story of the rainbow is relevant in the sense that we are saved only by a promise. Is it true? I have no idea but it gives comfort to those who believe literally in these things. The planet seems to be groaning under our feet; we plunder it's resources and lose our spirituality while declaring our special relationship with a silent creator....

When school time comes around and you put your children on the bus, they are off on their own. When they come of age and leave the nest, they are off on their own again. But you are still with them in spirit. We teach our children not to fight amongst one another, but grown men who run governments are poor role models. They teach us differently. God holds the Earths rotation around the sun to sustain life. I'm sure he has thought about letting it go once or twice.

I do not believe that God needs us; but I do believe, has chosen to use us!
