Does The Afterlife Exist?
Do you believe in an afterlife?
My Ghost Story
I am going to tread lightly and tell you that seeing is believing. I am going to also tell you that nothing will ever turn your whole perception upside down more than that moment when you actually see one--yes, I am talking about a spirit.
I was at my physical therapist's office, laying down with the door wide open and my head propped up on a pillow and warm towels. I could see through the blinds outside, which led to a foggy day and an empty parking lot, but not for long.
I was relaxing and waiting for my PT, when suddenly, I saw a very clear movement of a white figure through the peripheral of my vision, just outside in the parking lot. I raised my head slightly and propped myself up on my arms, squinting to make sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me. There, just outside the window, several feet into the middle of the parking lot were two floating white mists about as tall as humans but just kind of drifting back and forth. No trees were visible and there was nothing behind them to cloud my view; this was real.
I will never forget it but they left as quickly as they came, as if they knew I had seen them and I had scared them away. It only lasted for about a minute and I was visibly shaken when my PT finally came into the room. She asked me what was wrong and I put on a smile and blurted, "Nothing," a little too quickly. I didn't dare tell her since I didn't want to scare her and I didn't want her to think I was crazy.
I know you may read this and have your own opinion but have an open mind and give the idea a chance, just for a moment. A moment of believing that your loved ones are somewhere on the other side rooting for us in everything we do....a moment of hope that one day we will see them again....a moment of the possibility that there really is something more out there than we could ever begin to comprehend.
Just a moment...and maybe then, they will show themselves to you, too.
Today's Fascination With Top Psychics
The afterlife is a topic that few writers dare to tread, yet there seems to be a loyal following and genuine fascination with psychic mediums. People didn't even know what a psychic medium was until John Edward's 'Crossing Over' appeared on the Sci-Fi channel, then suddenly the Bio channel evolved into an infusion of 'Celebrity Ghost Stories' and 'haunted' shows. Psychic medium experiences rarely used to make it on cable, but now TLC touts Theresa Caputo, star of 'Long Island Medium' as one of the best celebrity psychic mediums in the world.
Even with all the media attention, so many people are still so skeptical as to whether authentic psychic mediums really exist--and with good reason. There are far too many people selling themselves as the 'best psychic medium' but the truth is, the real and genuine 'psychics' are usually more modest than that.
In fact, most of the ones who aren't famous psychics yet likely don't have a website and probably work a regular job. They can be found giving messages at your nearest spiritualist church or they may be honing their psychic reading skills on a site like Oranum.
Movies Featuring Psychic Phenomena
A realistically touching movie starring Matt Damon that delves heavily into psychic phenomena and what clairvoyant visions are like for people with this ability. A must-see for anyone who believes in life after death.
Let's Take A Field Trip: To A Spiritualist Church
What would convince you of the afterlife?
If you saw a psychic and she told you things she wasn't supposed to know, would you believe?
My grandmother, who raised me along with my parents was closer to me than anyone I had ever known.
After my grandmother died, I went to a psychic church, or spiritualist church for the first time. Growing up in a very religious family (very strict Jehovah's Witnesses) I was very afraid to set foot in the church. I was always taught that psychics were evil and could "cause" things to happen, with the help of the devil.
Always being a curious child, I focused on the unknown. I read everything I could get my hands on having to do with the afterlife and death. I read about angels as well as demons. Somehow, the fear left me and I realized that there really is nothing to fear.
So, back to the "psychic church" as I call it. I met some of the most wonderful, beautiful people in this spiritualist church who told me things each time I attended. Things that would make chills go up and down your spine; wonderful things that proved I had loved ones around me. There was a psychic "circle" which has a few psychics read random people in the circle of about twenty people. Reverend Hugo recited a passage from Psalms for protection and called upon Archangel Michael to protect the circle before each reading. The psychic readings began and I listened to several people get readings....and then, this cute little old lady smiled and pointed at me.
"There is someone from a hot climate coming through......she has traveled many places....she's coming from somewhere in Asia...YES, the Phillipines!"
I nodded, with wide eyes. I actually look Hispanic or Italian (even though I'm not), but nobody ever guesses part Filipino.
"She is coming through with a message..."
I nearly fell out of my chair....what could she want to tell me?
"Go to school. She's saying to go to school....I don't know what you are doing now but she says you will not make the money you want unless you go back to school."
Well. I was speechless. I had several emotions going on all at once and just ended up laughing.
I also wanted to cry because I was so happy she came through...but with a message like that!?? It is definitely something she would say but I expected something....anything....else.
I sincerely believe it was her that day. Each time I go to the spiritualist church I hope for a new message. A new piece of hope. A spark to my day that makes me realize we are not alone on this earth plane. I realize that there is so much that we cannot yet begin to comprehend, but one day we will....one day, each and every one of us will. As for the school thing? Time will tell.
Where Do You Find a Spiritualist Church?
Spiritualist churches are located all over the world, but it is best to go with a church that is associated with the National Association of Spiritualist Churches (NSAC). This way, you have a good idea of the background and belief system of the church and its members.
There are many spiritualist churches all over the United States and it costs nothing to visit, although they do take donations. I like that these churches don't pressure you into joining, but instead are a community of Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Wiccans and all kinds of different religious backrounds who come together to prove the existence of life after death through mediumship. There is usually a relaxing guided meditation, followed by a sermon and then 'gallery-style' messages to the audience given by authentic psychic mediums approved by the pastor.
If you've never visited a church like this and are curious about 'the other side,' this is an experience I would definitely recommend. If you don't get a psychic medium reading the first visit, don't despair; be open to it and go back when you are ready or try another church.
