Don't Fight Babylon.
Learning from Jeremiah.
Over the last 20 years or so there has been one Book in the Old Testament that keeps speaking loud and clear to me; Jeremiah.
Jeremiah's message and ministry was to a generation that was hopelessly lost in the chaos and confusion created by false prophets and their false messages. In short, Jeremiah was trying to work with a group of people who had become delusional. No matter what the LORD said or did, the people just carried on following the stubbornness of their own hearts.
What strikes me is the people Jeremiah was talking to should have known better. Unlike the Northern Kingdom of Israel, which had a counterfeit religious system, Judah had the city of God, the Temple of God, the Priesthood of God and the revelation of God. At least they did at one time.
But the LORD's people in Judah gave up the truth for a lie. Today, we are seeing history repeat itself. The Northern Kingdom of Israel represents counterfeit Christianity, primarily the Roman Catholic Church, whereas Judah represents what we might refer to as "Evangelical" or "Biblical" Christianity.
When Israel was invaded by Assyria, this was a warning to Judah. However, the Babylonian invasion of Israel was not a warning to Judah, it was the promise of judgement.
Jeremiah was given two primary instructions:
- Do not to intercede for Judah.
- Do not fight with Babylon.
The Babylonian system.
Ancient Babylon gives us a perfect picture of world system that caters to men and rejects the Lord. The Babylonian system or "way" has four pillars:
Each of these "systems" is built and run on the same foundation:
- Formal use of power and authority.
- Routine and mechanistic ways of working.
- Predominance of one-way communication.
When we look at the foundations of the Babylonian "way" of organising people and accomplishing objectives, we see that when it comes to Communism vs.Capitalism or Democracy vs. Dictatorship, there is absolutely no difference. None.
The problem we are faced with today is that what should be the kingdom of God in the hearts and minds of the Lord's people has been replaced by the kingdom of this world.
I think there are two key aspects to understanding the Babylonian "way":
- The spiritual power that is behind it.
- The plans and purposes of God that Babylon fulfills.
My understanding is that Britain is no longer a completely sovereign nation, it has given some of its power away to Europe. What Britain is experiencing within the European Union is the rising power of political Babylon.
Political Babylon wants to exercise power over the whole earth in areas that will control our everyday life; health, education, law and order and so on. We can see political Babylon at work in "bodies" such as the European Parliament, the European Court of Human Rights and the United Nations.
What I find totally amazing is that the European Union has a building designed to look like the unfinished tower of Babel and one of it's key images is a woman riding a beast, yet none of the politicians bat an eyelid and the vast majority of people just carry on as normal. Why don't our political leaders sound the alarm? Because they want the power that Political Babylon has to give them.
However, there are those that want to fight with political Babylon, but this is futile. Why? Because the rise of political Babylon is serving the Lord's plans and purposes for the end times. Namely, a One-World Government.
"Watch out for the money-people". This has been my warning to all I meet in Canada. The money-people started taking control of family owned and operated businesses in Britain during the '60's and 70's. Assets were stripped and profits soared but the economic fabric of the country was irrevocably torn.
In the 80's and 90's, financial deregulation paved the way for Economic Babylon to get all the filthy lucre it could lay it's filthy hands on. Political groups such as the G8 and the G20 are key players in the rise of Economic Babylon.
We are being told that "Globalisation" is a good and necessary thing to happen. I have to put my hands up and say that I have enjoyed some of the short-term benefits of Economic Babylon, primarily ridiculously inexpensive yet relatively high quality consumer goods. But these goods in excess are just like a coma-inducing pain killer. The human cost, the human pain and suffering inflicted in millions across the globe by Economic Babylon is impossible to measure.
Economic Babylon wants to exercise complete control over all the money in the world. Its goal is to keep the masses enslaved and walking on an economic treadmill. It offers luxury to those in power and inflicts pain and suffering everyone else. It has wine and oil for those who can afford it yet it trades primarily in the souls of men and the Lord is giving us over to it.
(If you haven't seen it yet, may I suggest watching, "Inside Job" narrated by Matt Damon. It's the story of the economic meltdown and some of the key people and events).
Economic Babylon operates through the World Bank and the IMF. It works through Banks, Financial Institutions and Global Corporations. It enslaves us through Consumer Credit and "Reverse Mortgages". It's a worldwide economic web that is serving the plans and purposes of the Lord in these last days.
A few years ago, I think it was during the second war with Iraq, I heard one commentator say that the US Military was not only the largest in the world, it was bigger than the next 9 largest military powers all added together. That's staggering. But that's not all.
I also heard around that time that the leader of the United Nations made a speech in which he was looking to Europe to provide a UN "Peace Keeping" force, an army that could go to so-called "trouble spots" anywhere in the world at short notice and restore order out of chaos and bring much needed "humanitarian assistance".
For me personally, this is the essence of Antichrist, bringing "peace" through military force. It many respects, Military Babylon has to exist to ensure Political and Economic Babylon prospers (and ensure the safety of Religious Babylon, but more on that later).
Up to this point in time UN Peacekeeping forces have been a bit of a half-hearted effort. But in my opinion many people are getting sick and tired of terrorism and terrorists whatever their political or religious persuasion.
Military Babylon will be allowed to rise as a response to our fears. What I have in mind here is fear of Islam.
In 1930's Europe, the fear was Communism. I once heard it said that at the outbreak of WWII around half of the population of France supported Nazi Germany. Why? Because of the threat of Communism. Both the Roman Catholic Church as a whole and many Christian Pastors in Germany supported Adolf Hitler.
Nazi Germany was an expression of Military Babylon, which in many ways was "reincarnation" of the military arm of the Roman Empire.
Where political and economic persuasion fail, military power will prevail.
Over the centuries many have believed that the Roman Catholic Church is Religious Babylon. However, I think it is just one expression of it. Religious Babylon is bigger than Roman Catholicism.
To understand the size and scale of Religious Babylon, I suggest we need to think in terms of a "big picture". To this end I have tried to pull together a definition.
"Religious Babylon is a man-made, demon-inspired system for gaining and maintaining control over the souls of men.
It has a false Christ (a false mediator). It has a false priesthood that offers false sacrifices on false altars and preaches a false gospel that will ultimately be confirmed with false signs and wonders".
Religious Babylon sets aside the righteousness of God so that men can establish their own".
With this definition, every spiritual entity that has, does and will exist outside of Christ is an expression of Religious Babylon.
It is my firm belief that what we are seeing form in the earth today is the body of antichrist, a one-world religion that will absorb and encapsulate every "religious" person and "religious" belief. It's tag line is "all roads lead to God".
It is Religious Babylon that is now invading the Churches. The disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ should not fight it.
Being subject (given over to) Religious Babylon is the Lord's will for those who have set aside the righteousness of God to establish their own.
The believer's mandate is not to fight Political, Economic, Military or Political Babylon but to leave it.
