Doubt We All Have It At Times

Updated on August 16, 2009

Are We Beginning To Sink?

Matthew 14:28-31

Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."

Come," he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

During my early years while walking with Christ, I have these messages of doubt following me around, and I did all kinds of research, and prayers went up so often that I felt my search was in vein.

Peter took his eyes off Jesus, when he saw the wind he lost faith and doubted Jesus' faithfulness to keep him on top of the water. We all tend to doubt, especially when we are going through trying times. What causes us to doubt? Satan can feed us a bunch of lies, after all he is the father of lies, right!

In Matthew 8:25-26

Jesus speaks to his disciples about doubt also. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"

He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Jesus has rebuked so many winds and waves in my life that all I could do was stand in awe of Him. The disciples we're amazed at His work and at His amazing stand against the violent force they thought would kill them. Sometimes we panick when we go through stages of doubt, I was wondering if I was really a Christian and sometimes doubt still comes, especially when I'm going through a crisis. I ask God alot to forgive me for doubting His goodness, but in our lives we wonder why all this is happening especially when we love God and we know we can look at our past lives and see Him working there. I have to take time to look behind me to see where God's hand has been so it can build up my faith, and stop the doubts. Satan will lead us into all confustion.

So, when we doubt we have a friend in Jesus, He will rebuke those winds and all things that are not of Him in our lives.

I felt that way recently, that I was in trouble. In a situation where I just was not healing physically, but this morning I felt His Presence strong and that He was with me.

Betty you are so right. I too thought i had know God and had accepted him as my Lord and Savior in the past but today in Church our pastor was talking in Galatians 5:16-26 about the Spirit vs Flesh; and with help of our connection group I realized that although i knew hiim and praying and believed in him i never really accepted him into my heart or asked him to come into my heart so today after the invitation was brought up i went up and told the pastor that i never really ask god into my heart; a woman came and sat and talked to me and we prayed and i asked jesus to come into my heart. Tonight we are having a picnic and river baptism and i am going to be baptised. I am asking for your prayers to help me keep in in my life and in my heart and to change me and to renew my faith in christ. I felt real stupid about doing this at first cause i had asked fro membership into the church and i said that i had accepted him already but i guess my disfunctional childhood and life growing up, i never really had him there. Yes i always prayed and i attended church and stayed away from the sin world but i felt like i was missing something and never felt really close to him. Please keep me in your prayers and ask for strenght for me. Love in christ, lawanda

Once again I am reminded of God's faithfulness. I don't know how those who don't know him get through this life. If only they would see their need for Jesus. Then they too could know His Marvelous Peace. Thank you so very much. You are a true blessing to me.
