Righteous or Left Behind?

Updated on March 7, 2014

Is being right-wing compatible with being a Christian?

Christianity is based on the Bible and the words of Jesus. But following Jesus and being a Christian can be difficult when talk radio and televangelists and supposed Christian writers tell us that God is a conservative or God is a Republican.

There was a time when it was asserted that God is an Englishman. Entire Eurocentric religions are based on such a view. There are people who honestly believe that God speaks in King James English with thees and harks and so they pray that way so that God will understand them. I do not make fun of them because I used to pray that way myself before I realized that God is multilingual. He would have to be after the tower of Babel. There are religions based on Anglo-Israelism -- the idea that English are the lost tribes of Israel. Many Protestant denominations held beliefs that they are now ashamed of: slavery and anti-Semitism for example. They cannot even claim that people back in those days did not know any better. That's a lie. They did know better because history books are full of accounts of slave owners silencing their consciences because the anti-slavery societies (the predecessors of the abolition societies) constantly reminded them that slavery was wrong. They knew but they put their money ahead of doing what was right.

Likewise, scholars have known since antiquity that all the patriarchs, judges, prophets of the Old Testament were Jewish. Scholars have known since antiquity that John the Baptist, Saint Joseph and Mary, the Apostles, and the disciples were all Jewish. Jesus Bar-Joseph / Yeshua Ha-Mashiach was Jewish. So the Church had no excuse for the Inquisition or pogroms when the Bible said Jews were the apple of God's eye.

All this is background to recent history. Where were conservatives when MLK was marching peacefully for minority voting rights? They were in the Klan beating up white (and black) freedom riders. Where are conservatives today? Working for polluting companies, defending polluters, and owning stock in polluting companies. This despite the New Testament injunction to be good stewards of the Earth which came from the Old Testament where Adam and Eve got kicked out of Paradise because they sampled a species of tree that God said to leave alone. To this day, humans are still touching things (like Antarctica) that God said to leave alone because humans hold nothing sacred.

The Earth is the Lord's.

If we are looking for a model to follow, then we need look no further than Jesus. Not mean, ignorant racists or drug addicts. Harsh words but truth hurts. Ignoring the poor? Ignoring the sick (health care reform) ? Jesus said that if you ignore these you are doing it to God. Jesus said: "The poor will always be with you." He did not say ignore them. He taught by actions as well as words. He fed the poor. He healed the sick.

Is being right-wing compatible with being a Christian?

No.

Avoid public relations types who are there to get rid of you. Even if they listen, it is to tranquilize you rather than to get rid of their cash cow. Buy ownership shares in Clear Channel any way you can. Not so that they have to listen to you at stockholders meetings (and then ignore you the rest of the year) but so that they have to fire any executive who keeps him on the air.

If you are too poor to buy into Clear Channel or its parent holding company, then you still have the power to turn the dial away from any station owned by Clear Channel or its subsidiaries. We have to make him a money pit that will pull down Clear Channel, its investors, its bankers, and all of Wall Street.

This might seem to put us at odds with rich people also determined to get him off the air but they are our allies in this war. We are ultimately not interested in bankrupting Clear Channel. That is simply a tactic and part of a larger strategy aimed at getting him off the air before his influence kills us all. This refers (obviously) to his pro-pollution, pro-global warming, and pro-climate change stances. Either we the seven billion sane people of Earth win or he wins and we all die a slow agonizing death. This is not what we want for our parents and children. We do not want our grand-children's last breath to curse us for our short-sightedness.

Haters hate you.

Don't be too sure that you are immune. They stir up mentally unstable people to violence. We have seen the victims.

Some are dead.
