Each breath a symphony, each sigh refrains.
Each lie is given, each hurt remains.
Each flower a blessing, each creature adored.
Each second the gift of life, each difference a war.
I often write about this subject, it just keeps rearing its head in my mind, pushing all else aside. Perhaps it’s because I just can’t fathom what’s going on in the world. I read the papers and they are constantly filled with the same news, hatred, murder, crime and war. I search frantically for positive stories and only occasionally find them.
How can humanity think positively when we are fed negativity 24/7? If thinking can create reality as I believe, it’s no wonder the word is in such a mess. It is difficult to think about the gift of life and all its wonders when we are subjected to a constant stream of doom and destruction.
In the end I think most of us become more insular, shielding ourselves from this ugly reality and maintaining our sanity by focusing on our families and friends and our own small piece of positive reality. The problem with that is the reality that we wish to reject remains with those of lesser intent and who hold the power. Without voicing our opinion there is no attainable balance and the problem simply propagates.
By accepting this lesser world, we are in fact contributing to it and adding to the same inevitable future the terrorists, fundamentalists, dictators and brokers of greed would have.
I know this all sounds repetitive but unless we as individuals make a decision to voice opposition at the lowest levels up, nothing can every change. Governments must be accountable, wealth cannot determine power, religions must not be political, and compassion for populations in crisis must come first.
It of course sounds impossible to achieve, but if no steps are made in this direction peace will never be accomplished and our fate is sealed. What needs to be remembered is the gift of life we so easily take for granted. Love is always the answer and what brings that out most is our appreciation for art, music and all the human expressions of love. These endeavours take us to another understanding, beyond the physical existence, and take us away from the trivia of today’s world.
We must find meaning in the world beyond this physical world in conflict. In doing so, we light that internal flame that looks to higher understanding for nourishment. To overcome the negative we must live in the positive. This should be our mission.
