My True Stories of Angelic Interaction

Do you question the existence of angels? Do you wonder if you have a guardian angel of your own? While it is difficult to prove, I boldly express that I believe in angels. I believe I have a guardian angel whose role is to comfort and guide me during turmoil in life. At my deepest moment of despair, my guardian angel steps in to help me through a dilemma allowing me to come through it with comfort and assurance.

Aside from physical interaction, I have had moments in time when I have felt the comfort of a spiritual existence. The whiff of a powerfully sweet scent that people attribute to the Holy spirit, a swift breeze, or an unexplained feeling of relief when I need it most are some of the things people share when describing encounters with guardian angels.

Let me share with you, a few memorable moments, which I believe are encounters with my guardian angel.

Guardian Angel Keeps My Car on the Road

One wrong turn and a family vacation would have been tragic. Luckily, I have a guardian angel.

Edge of the Cliff

A family caravan trip almost ended in tragedy. Driving to a vacation location in the mountains, our family of six caravanned in two vehicles. We had the girls in the family vehicle (my car) and the boys in the sports car (my husband’s car). It was a long trip from our home to the place where we would set up camp and vacation for the next week. As anyone knows, mountain driving can be treacherous. After about half an hour through the mountainous portion of the drive, my brakes began to feel strange. They weren’t allowing me to accurately slow down to negotiate the curves with control. Just at the point when I realized it would be wise to pull over at the next turnout, the road curved dramatically. As I tried to slow down to maneuver around the curve, tapping my brakes as I had been taught, still, my brakes would not engage. I was on a downward spiral with my daughters and their best friend in the car. Realizing what would inevitably happen if I did not gain control of the vehicle, I began a serious conversation with the Lord. I just could not get the car to slow down. I apologized to the girls because I knew they were frightened and needed assurance that I could not provide them in the present dilemma. They were young, so they didn’t know they needed to pray, too. Or, maybe they did, because just as we were headed toward the edge of the road with no guard rail to protect us, I felt a tug on the steering wheel and all of a sudden, the car came to a complete halt. My husband and son, who were following behind me, stopped as well. They were confused and just as afraid as the girls, watching my car pick up dangerous speeds on a winding mountain road.

A 2011 AP-GfK Poll showed that 77% of adults say they believe in angels.

Amazingly, there were no other cars on the road to contend with. After getting out of his car, my husband naturally wanted to know what happened. I explained about how my brakes didn’t seem to be working. He and his son examined the car and could not find anything wrong with the brakes. After examining the car, my husband personally tested the brakes. Everything seemed to be fine. We decided to take the car to a maintenance station for verification. Driving further, the brakes worked fine, so instead of driving to the mechanic’s we decided to go directly to the campground. Another inspection showed no signs of anything wrong with the brakes. Aside from that moment on the road, I never had another issue with the brakes again.

Was it a guardian angel that protected me? I suspect the answer is yes. Although I didn’t see or hear anyone, something magical happened on that road. The steering wheel turned itself and then all of a sudden the brakes worked. I ended that day believing I had been rescued by the grace of God and that my guardian angel rescued me.

My Guardian Angel Comforted Me in the Face of Homelessness

The Shopping Cart

Soon after my husband and I were informed that we lost our jobs during a company restructuring, I began to become distraught. I kept telling myself that things would be alright and that we would find other employment. But, as time went on, things were not OK. We searched vigorously for jobs and could not find any. Our claim for unemployment compensation was initially denied because the Employment Development Department (EDD) stated that because we each owned our own corporation under which we contracted for work, as owners of the corporation we could not unemploy ourselves. According to EDD, technically we were still employed. So, there we were, both of us without jobs. Our household was devastated. We were on the verge of losing our home to foreclosure. Creditors were calling us deadbeats and telling us how horrible we were for not paying our bills. But, what could we do with zero income?

While unemployed, I was willing to take any type of job. At one point I was selling lipstick door-to-door. On one occasion when I was delivering lipstick to a customer’s home I came across the path of a gentleman I initially classified as unsavory. My first instinct was shamefully judgmental. This man was dressed in a heavy overcoat in the middle of summer, wearing those little gloves with the fingers cut out. He looked like a homeless man pushing a shopping cart. What is interesting about this encounter is that one of my lifelong fears is that I would end up being a homeless lady pushing a shopping cart. In fact, I became a workaholic because I never wanted that to be my fate. Hence, that was the reason I was selling lipstick in the first place – to make that money! I couldn’t find a regular job, and this was an opportunity to do something other than pour over the nonexistent want ads. I figured if I could sell X number of lipsticks a day, then I could make X number of dollars a week. Folks, I was desperate.

So, here I was driving to a customer’s house that was 10 miles away, selling a single lipstick for $1.99. You don’t even have to be a math whiz to know that I was on a path going nowhere. It would take a lot of lipstick to get my mortgage paid.

As I approached the customer’s house, this gentleman came from around the corner with his shopping cart. He looked at me, smiled and said, “Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.” I immediately recognized John 14:6 which reads, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” It is a beautiful and meaningful verse. But, who walks around talking like that? The gentleman didn’t say hello; he didn’t say anything else other than, “Bless you, child.” I was speechless. I tried to think of something appropriate to say as a reply, but I was dumbfounded and couldn't think of anything. When I finally managed to say something, the gentleman was almost out of ear shot. I finally blurted out, ‘Thank you!' I felt foolish. After all, the least I could have done was uttered a 'Bless you!' back to him. I blinked and noticed the man had disappeared. It was as if he had literally vanished into thin air. After a brief moment, I recall that that man didn’t have anything in his shopping cart. Interesting!

Was that an encounter with an angel? Or, was it simply a really nice person who goes around town offering words of encouragement? I believe it was an encounter with a guardian angel.

The Voice of an Angel

Saved by the bell! The voice of my guardian angel offered comfort and assurance.

The Voice

One day the phone rang. I almost didn’t answer it because I suspected it was a creditor and on that particular day I just could not bear to hear the voice of another creditor’s threatening and belittling tone. I decided to let the call go to voicemail. But, something made me pick up the phone even though I was convicted not to answer. Although the person on the other end of the phone line introduced himself, I didn’t pay attention to who he said he was, but when I explained to this person that I had lost my job and didn’t have any money to pay, he simply said, “It's OK, ma’am. I understand”. I told him thank you for understanding, and I began to sob like never before. It was as if I just needed someone to understand. Then, I heard this gentleman say in an overly calming voice, “Don’t worry. Everything is going to be alright. Just put your faith in the Lord. You're going to be alright.” And then he hung up. I have never heard a voice like his. I hung up the phone slowly. Once again, I was dumbfounded - struck by his words. I can't describe his voice except to say that his voice was different in the way that it was commanding, but soothing at the same time.

Was that a guardian angel that comforted me in the best way possible at the time? I believe so, because ever since that day I have felt like things were going to work out just fine. And, things did work out fine. Through a friend who was a financial planner, my husband and I learned that we were able to tap into retirement funds that we were unaware we could use without penalty. Our friend mapped out a plan for how we could retire early and live a humble and simple life.

Do You Have a Guardian Angel?

Through all of the turmoil, the danger, losing my job, and stepping one day into homelessness, I have experienced the nurturing nature of guardian angels. Had angels not stepped in to save me at the most appropriate moment, my life would have been commpletely different. Yes, I suffered through difficult times, but my guardian angel protected me from disaster and brought me through it so that I could live to tell about it.

Many people have shared their stories of what they believe are encounters with guardian angels. Do you have a guardian angel? If so, please share your experience in the comments.

Hello Snakesmum. It is not everyone who believes fully in guardian angels. After all, it's not like angels come up and introduce themselves to us. I was raised to believe in angels and so it is bred into me to believe in them wholeheartedly. I am happy to hear that you have been rescued from danger by the powerful forces that are within this world.

Although I can't say I have ever had a guardian angel, I do believe there are powers protecting us. There have been a few scary moments when something bad could have happened and I've been able to walk away with no problems.

      Enjoyed your story.

Hi Cesky. I know what you mean. When I am at the edge of a life trauma, that's typically when I feel a spiritual presence of some sort, which I imagine is an angel helping me back to my feet.

An interesting read. You have created an immaculate article, MarleneB , never did I stop for a moment while reading this stuff. Though in this part of the world, we believe in miracles but we attribute these to our belief in various deities. One such instance is still fresh in my mind, it happened that A troop of monkeys surrounded me and I was certain that I could not be rescued in any case. I was hopeless and full of fright. Then in that moment of a sheer frustration, I closed my eyes and thought of Hanuman, a great deity and devotee of Sri Ram and Sri Ram,avatar of The Supreme God Vishnu. In a flash of time, the troop of menacing monkeys dispersed miraculously, leaving me unscathed. Merry Christmas and all joy and bliss and a very Happy New Year approaching fast !

      Hi Marlene

I was going through hubs and bypassed your name (not that I wanted to, however at that time I was looking for a certain hub)then for some reason I scrolled back up passed all the names and clicked on yours.

This is an awesome hub. I believe that "Holy Spirit" send his Angels all those times. I have had so many life experiences and many more to come that I feel my life is more spirit than anything else.

I actually wrote a hub myself on my true experience with Gods Angels.

      Your stories are amazing.

I believe! My mothers an angel! She has beautiful white wings that are huge! She passed in 2011 after a long illness. She started to leave signs of her new wings as soon as she passed. The morning after, I awoke to about fifty or so tiny little feathers on the floor next to my bed. The following few days I would find them in strange places all over the house. The day before her funeral mass my brother and his daughter were walking on a trail in the woods, on their return hike to the car directly in the center of their path they found the most beautiful white feather. It was about 12 inches long and perfect. My brother placed the feather on the alter in front of the urn on the day of her funeral mass. When everyone was filing out of the church after the ceremony one of her close friends and caregiver during her illness shared a dream she had had with us. In the dream my mother had awoken her and was hugging her, she said her wings were beautiful, big and white. She asked my mother if she could touch them and she replied, " only for a moment," her friend cried and said " oh, Marilyn they are so beautiful and soft." then she awoke. She had not noticed the feather on the alter and when we showed it to her she cried inconsolably. I know my mother is a guardian to many, I know she has the most beautiful wings an angel could have and I know for certain she is around me all the time. Steering for me, cheering for me, and smiling for me! I miss my mom terribly but I have no sorrow that she has passed on to be angel of mine! Great hub! You have a new follower!

Hi Marlene. What an awesome hub. I too believe we all have our guardian angels, I tend to think of mine as family who have passed on, I suppose you would say I am agnostic, I believe there is something of a higher power but not sure what really. However know there are unseen forces looking out for me and although like you my life sometimes feels like it´s falling apart at the seams, something comes along and helps me out. I am going to link this hub to one of mine which refers to a favorite aunt who died and days later left me a white feather, sign of an angels visit, she strongly believed in guardian angels too and knew I would get the significance of this special gift.

This was my introduction to you as a writer, and I must say, you did a wonderful job here. I too believe in a Guardian Angel, and have felt their touch both physically, and in something unrecognized at the time. When the F5 tornado ravaged our town last year, we found that not one, not two, not three, but four separate residences we had either lived in, or tried to purchase, and been outbid on had been destroyed. Three were completely gone, down to the foundations. None have been rebuilt yet. When we drove down that street, and saw that these were gone, we wept for those who had lost everything, but knew inside that there was a reason we had not gotten these houses. Our Angel knew, and protected us; of this I have no doubt. Wonderful hub, Ma'am.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts.

Brett - I don't know about passed loved ones watching over me. That would be nice if that was the case. I'm not sure I have always believed in guardian angels, but because of my experiences, I certainly do believe in them now. With no other explanation, I am driven to believe it has to be angels.

Gypsy Rose Lee - You are blessed beyond this world. I don't believe I have a connection to the world beyond. I would not know how to handle much more than what I have right now. I'm still a baby when it comes to reaching out beyond what I experience here on earth. I am sure a day will come when I am stretched, like you, to go further into that realm. Until then, I thank the Lord for my guardian angels.

Deborah Brooks - Thank you for your positive comment. Definitely, you should finish writing about your guardian angel. I am fascinated by angels and how people are affected by them.

Relationshipc - The car story is just a brief description of what happened. The long version is purely unbelievable, so I kept the story short, but it is that very incident that made me a believer in guardian angels. My life and the life of my children were saved that day in an event that I will remember forever. And, you are so right about creditors not letting up. They are ruthless. So, when I got that particular phone call and the voice on the other end was warm and compassionate, I can't help but believe it was an angel.

Seafarer Mama - Oh, yes, guardian angels act through other humans, that's for sure. I am so happy that things are working out for you. I think I've read your hub about your daughter's experience. I'll go see. Anyway, thank you very much for sharing the link here.

God bless you for sharing this, Marlene....and very eloquently.

I think that while the state of the world may be careening toward a collapse due to corporate interests taking higher priority than the needs of ordinary citizens, we need, and will need more often, our guardian angels. More stories like yours will surface, and that encourages us all to keep faith.

I also make sure that my daughter knows she has a guardian angel, and encourage her to talk to her angel. Mine was closest to me one night when I was a graduate student. I wrote a hub about it:

Sometimes guardian angels act through other humans. When I was homeless for a while (with no income to pay rent), friends took me in. Those friends included a house full of nuns. In some ways, Mother Mary was also involved because 1 of the nuns was a Sister of St. Anne (Mary's Mother) and the others were Sisters of Notre Dame (Our Mother). :0)

Right now, I believe that those who reached out to employ me to shampoo their rugs with my rug shampooer were inspired to respond by the Holy Spirit, or my guardian angel....OR if I look at it another way, my guardian angel inspired me to ask for help in this area (an email to church members asking if they were willing to help), and that request has been answered positively...and the way paved for building up our financial cushion. It'll take over 300 rugs to shampoo for the machine to pay for itself...but the important part is that I'm on that path, and being taken care of.

Voted this hub Up, Useful, Awesome, and Beautiful,!

Love testaments like this. It feels like I have heard the car story before, so I'm not sure if someone else had a similar experience, you wrote it somewhere else, or I am just having deja vu of some sort.

I love the phone call story. I can guarantee that the voice was not from a creditor because they do not let up and give advice like that. How amazing you got such an important message via phone.

I absolutely believe in guardian angels and I speak to them often. I can't think of any experiences like yours, but I can still feel their presence around me. :)

Voted up and awesome. I know we have guardian angles. I have a deep faith and I let the Lord guide me each day. I can't really recount them as such but I have been in situations or close to potentially dangerous situations which I wasn't aware of and each and every time I've come out completely OK. I know my guardian angel was looking after me. I have a strong link with the world beyond and I have seen and heard things that have brought me peace of mind at the moment it was most needed. A number of years ago my husband was hospitalized and had a serious operation, that same year my mom died and that same year I gave birth to a stillborn little girl. While this nightmare was going on my mother came to me - not in a dream- she came and I knew then that my husband would be OK. How I got through that horrible year and kept a sane mind was through the Lord and through my guardian angel who kept watch over me. I just know it. Glad that your guardian angel is with you. It is comforting to know. God bless. Passing this on.

      Hi Marlene,

I believe in guardian angels. Many years ago I had to escape from my own place due to an abusive situation. I knew he wouldn't stick around as he would have known I was going to seek help. As I was waiting at security in the main building, I said, "Dad please help me." It was 2001 and my dad died 1999. I looked up and there was the person who tried to strangle me outside walking by like he didn't have a care in the world. I shouted to the police, "There he is". They ran out ,put him in hand cuffs and arrested him.

Hi Helen. Thank you for sharing your testimony here. Encounters with angels are moments in life that are remembered forever. I believe the pastor was visited by Jesus, too. I am so grateful for having the Lord in my life and for sending angels to watch over me. Yes. All glory and honor to Jesus our Savior.

Hello Marlene, thank you for your testimony...... I believe that you have been ministered to by angels, because God sends His angels to minister and comfort us in very hard times, or in times of danger!.....I have had several encounters myself in the past, where I was speaking with people, and felt that I may have been talking to an angel......Also, one of my closest friends....her husband was driving one day and someone cut him off....and his car went careening toward a cliff, and just when he thought to himself that God was taking him home, he said that he felt like his car was picked up and turned so that it would not go off the cliff & came to a stop then....I have told many people this story because I was very amazed by it!.....Pastor Jack Hayford, who had a radio program I listened to while driving to work(years ago), stated during one program, that while he was sick at home recuperating from something quite serious, that Jesus came to him to comfort him, and that Jesus was sitting in the chair next to his bed.....he said then Jesus came to his bed and hugged him.....and I do not think that pastor Hayford is crazy, I believe what he said, because all things are possible with God!!!!!........All glory to Jesus Christ our God and Savior forever!!!!!

      God bless you, Helen

Thank you all for your positive comments. It is so good to hear from people who have the same spirit and belief in the Lord and in angels. Much love and many blessings to you.

Ceegen - Yes, you are right to assume the stories are not embellished in any way. I think it would be spiritually unwise to make stuff up about angels. Imagine the punishment the Lord would inflict on someone who felt the need stretch the truth.

Faith Reaper - Isn't it wonderful knowing that we have the help of our Heavenly Father through the angels He sends to protect and guide us? Thank you for sharing your encounters and your beliefs with us here on HP.

Lady Summerset - Thank you for your prayers. My prayers are with you, too. I know first-hand what it feels like to sleep in my car - cold and hoping the authorities won't come and tap on the window for me to move. It's frightening and difficult to sleep, thinking a stranger could break a window and do harm. It is such a vulnerable position to be in life. But, for me it wasn't a permanent situation. Nevertheless, I know what it feels like. My heart aches when I think of people who are less fortunate than me. Yes. As bad as things were for me, I know others have it worse. It's thinking about the children that breaks my heart. I have a totally different attitude for people who are homeless and that's why I started a mission in my area to do what I can to help provide food when I can, even on my meager retirement income. Whatever I can do, I do.

      Greetings Marlene,

I know what you are talking about and just recently faced finding another place to live because I couldn't bargain the rent down to stretch our ONE salary.

Like you, the thought of being homeless was unbearable. My husband kept saying "keep trusting God." We walked out of one place into another with the assistance of my mom. However, my thoughts are with so many salary-less households with children who are forced to move.

It was through these times that only the presence of the Lord kept me. We take so much for granted. I'm praying for you and your family as the Holy Spirit guides you through this transition.

God bless you Marlene, what a stunningly beautiful heart pounding testimony. I am so blessed to know you via HP, and you know that I have had encounters with angels many times throughout my lifetime. It is so wonderful that you shared all of this here in this most wonderful hub. I have seen the face of Jesus while ministering to the homeless, but I too, was ministered to by an angel during this time as well. Voted Way up to the Heavens, except funny. Sharing. Praise Him! To God be the glory! In His Love, Faith Reaper

That is some real awesome testimony. Those were angels, and I do believe that you are not embellishing in even the slightest.

I love hearing things like this. It is always a beautiful day, while in service to God!
