Eric’s Sunday Sermon; Yahoo We Are Having Fun Raising!
Suffering Is Optional and Fun Is Optional
Yahoo is a very interesting word. “You are a Yahoo” works. Yahoo! Works. The company brand Yahoo works. Yahoo, Yahoo!! Works. Should we capitalize Yahoo? I think yahoo works too. Yahoo is used from New York to L.A. and from Montreal to Houston. (And with the company – the whole globe of our residence)
Definition here is fun. Some deal about expressing something. Well not in my world. It is a cross between a great belly laugh and a hand in the air pumping jump for joy that comes up and requires a good scream. Normally from accomplishment of others, but a bunch for ourselves. I believe it is a feeling and not a thought.
Now we will obviously go into that “Yahoo” in a bit but let’s get “We are having fun” for a bit and then at the end we can circle around and lend our thoughts to the combination.
So did you know I am standing to write and my fingers are typing to a rhythm. Sometimes I just get all having fun to music. How can that be with life? (extra music today)
Driving down the freeway last Thursday I had an attack of the “UNFUN”. That is not good so I pulled over and just left a message on my buddies answer deal. That little act took away those unfun bugs. He called back in a bit and was having fun cajoling me. “Dierker life is not always fun – get over it.” Of course he is right and I got to the courthouse with plenty of fun. I really enjoy my trips downtown as those people are funny. The stress is palpable. Those trips remind me to hug my wife more as she kind of works in that atmosphere – but not completely as she is sequestered on a base.
Fun is like special food to eat. It does not sustain us or make things better really, it is just a matter of attitude.
Just for Fun
Just Part of My Happy Culture (but sad partly)
Fun isn’t the Sun. Fun isn’t a run. Fun is not food. Fun is not love, or anger. Fun is just a state of mind. Fun is not even an emotion. So, so many people do just fine without fun. I don’t think my wife does fun on the day to day deal. We argued heavily. It went on as I have a rule never to end an argument without resolution. It was heated. I ended it with the question of “Are we having fun yet?” I think that was not fun for her. A good soul might be called into a battle that is not of his making.
I had this sport I had fun playing. It is all over the place and makes Billions of Billions of dollars – no really billion-billion in the trickle down and up. Seriously this sport from children 6 up makes amazing amounts of money – from donations and programs for young, sick and old or impoverished this sport puts money into saving people who then make money and then so on and so on. It also makes people billionaires who invest their money and give literally millions across the world. I hear that there are manufacturers who hire entire places in China and give jobs because of this sport.
Well of course that is only one of the sports I really had fun playing. Soccer, Skiing, Baseball, Basketball and Track & Field and Golf are up there and I could go on. Yes what I am talking about is American Football. I did them because I really had fun doing them. Smash mouth brutal workouts and practices were fun for me. Shucks with my young boy I am having fun doing them all again.
I go to a game once or twice a year and half of those fans are not having fun. So why do they spend $250? We were signing my son up for a sport league and we saw two kids crying at the match/game. Holy cow, they were not having fun.
I was on a “Ramming”* team once. I was the biggest, strongest and had the best endurance. And so they mocked me and laughed and taught me about the rhythm and working together. Now that is fun.
*I forget what they technically called it now or then --- Crew.
For me, for my heaven of fun, it would have hardcore competition where everyone had fun instead of aspirations and profit. But I do not know if a heaven does fun because it is different than joy and love and charity and peace. I just do not know.

Not Sorry I Missed Your Call
So we have this Yahoo and we have pure unadulterated fun. And when we are really having fun we just shout out our term for Yahoo. Oh do not be confused Yahoo is really just a model. You must have your own term or use Yahoo that is cool. My favorite that I use when my elder children call is Yip Yip Yahoo!! Now some good folk think of that kind of fun as something from God and so they do something like an “Amen”. Good on them. But I think God gave us a free will and one of those options is fun. So technically it is a man thing. We can choose it. God smiles when we do but he does not create it. Hopeful and Joyful are different.
Now I was out on a good and plenty walkabout and slammed my toe hard and therefor ripped my boot (light ones) and it was bleeding and I was a good two miles up on the “mountain”. Getting home was tough at the best. I was not really having fun. I was not happy. But I was still in love and joyful and laughed at my situation. Dang, two days off my feet and cost of new boots. Yahoo! No chores and some pampering for two days. Alright I admit the Ice Cream was a bit much for an old timer. Next hike and more Yahoo!
Seems to me that my best Yahoos are from getting back up. And that includes getting back up from an argument and returning to love. I fell off a small cliff once. Maybe 6ft. I landed hard and hurt like hell once my breath was back, I got up. Not a gall darn thing was broken, oh it hurt but not broken. Now there was some painful jumping and hand pumping and Yahoo echoed off the canyon walls. So now when I stumble but make it I yell Yahoo. Don’t care who hears it or how they look at me.
So Yahoo! And fun are our free will. That is way cool. But Joy and Faith, Hope and Love are not our choices. They are a commandment.
Excuse me but I am going back to having fun with Vivaldi, it just happens to be that kind of fun music day. On the other hand. My boy and I are doing Halloween decorations so I may miss your call.
Check this fine lady out. You can tell that she could bust a gut holding back a huge smile. You are not supposed to have fun sometimes.
