Probably as credentialed than many. Years of study and preaching and degrees and whatever. Boring this is Sermon of love.

Lift Up Your Eyes and Heart

Much like Christmas you can have one whenever you want. We suggest not missing the holiday cheer and community during this time of year. How fun is that stuff?! True admission here, I have not been up to 12am for New Year’s since about 2009. In this household we get two New Year’s and I think it will be the year of the pig. Asian New Year’s celebrations are more like a weeklong. (more on that later).

We hope you rested up after Christmas as many get fairly worn out and possibly stressed this time of year. Here we thank all those folks who went all out to make it a great season filled with food and love. Yes I was thinking specifically of Linda Lum or Carb Diva when mentioning food. And Bill Holland when mentioning love.

We note above that it is not what these folks did on Christmas necessarily it is how they live all year long. We would have to be zillionaires to pass out even a trinket to all who have warmed our hearts with love through the year. It would be my humble opinion that if anyone touched one other person with love this year, they have full justification to love themselves. No; even if you got coals for Christmas you can still love yourself. Hey that would be a good resolution any time of year; to love yourself more.

Oh my we did Christmas hugs and kisses yesterday with my four children. Believe me when I say they come from across the U.S. to gather. But they like the ritual stuff and me not so much. So they go get the holiday “spirit” elsewhere and to the protocols and procedures and show up here with absolutely no ritual. No distraction from a bad back from 314 hugs in one day.

One of our fun huggings (muggings) are from other family and friends from all around the states and beyond. I think my sister Lauri got the record as she ordered two hugs be delivered. These are not man hugs with pats. These best be accompanied by a peck on the cheek and an “I love you” or “Lauri loves you”. My youngest is now tall enough to give real hugs.

Isn’t that funny to spend so much/mush time on hugs in a sermon. Isn’t life grand!

Trust That Others Are Who They Are. Be You!

For this writing on Sunday the 30th of December here we take a note about anytime. This Sermon and all like them are written on Sunday. It does not mean they need be read on Sunday. In our space we read and worship God who is Love all year long. Yes even on TGIF. In our ego we wish read on Sunday or Monday to start the week. Now that just may be vainglory so pretend you did not read it ;-)

Another note is that writing this is like a high light of my week. I have to get real communing with the Spirit to write them. How cool is that? That might be cheating too ;-) Do we love giving Love because it feels good to us or because it is a gift to another? What a trick question. Of course they are the same.

I will start on New Year’s resolutions today and tomorrow. That way they are attached to me and not a date. Ok I am way Christian so they are attached and supported by Christ in my view.

I tend to think of New Year’s as Easter. A holiday, mainly celebrating a resurrection of Christ. What a blessing that can be adorned with Love at any old time.

Repent is a fun word. For some reason it is all about sorrow and regret. That is not how I read it; Applied to the Supreme Being, to change the course of providential dealings. Genesis 6. Psalm 106. Too me it means to get it together and stop looking past but turn around and start facing forward in the direction of Love which is God. A very fine resolution which we can break one hour and have a New Year the next. I have a pretty huge forgiveness switch, I can forgive almost anything in others or myself. It really is not me but the love given me.

Here is one I just really think is great. Keeping in mind I hold God as Love as in 1 John 4. I resolve to get more into the Jesus of love with my son. Actually my elder son and I agreed that love is God yesterday, and that we can agree on. My young son’s biggest sin to date is sneaking extra M&Ms when he tries to lie he just starts cracking up. (After all his father spent a decade cross-examining liars)

Thanks Be To Love

You Know How I Feel - NEW

Waylaid By Life

It is a mad house around here getting ready for church service. So much fun. And they are off to their community. I think the liturgy of Sunday morning in our home is better than most Churches. My son came around with some water bottles on Friday. We already had some fruit out. The fine people of JW came by. With a little boy. Of course we invite them in to rest and revive. How exciting their walks must be. As long as they accept and move on from folks who do not welcome them. Same as Jesus sending out disciples.

Look now; I am on my third year of Roman Catholic Catechism – to stay fresh. I was a LEM in the Episcopal, a Preacher in both Lutheran and non-denominational and a youth preacher in all. I am up to date on Russian Eastern Orthodoxy. I love my Buddha and Native American notions, Shinto and Hindu and Muslim not so much. I do not indulge in one except the doctrine and liturgy of love. I have an advance degree in Philosophy, mainly linguistic. The neat part about that is that you gain most historical linguistics from religion. What braggadocio you proclaim!

My point is that you don’t have to be a weirdo like me. I have done most the work for you. And if you are hanging around watching a football or Futball contest, good on ya. If you yell at spouse and child to shutup during your sport, bad on ya. You may not love the search for riches or an event more than others and yourself. That creates just enough hell on earth for you. God does not need to send you there, you are living it.

The Only Looking Back I Do

New Year’s gratitude. Right on brothers and sisters. Some of us may have financial difficulties, trouble with family or something like cancer. But as long as we have love, next year will be “the best ever”. My son loves that term.

Here is how it works around here. “We don’t want to”. We don’t want to go to school, work, take a bath or yardwork and cooking. Thank you very much. And then when we get to any of them we do not want to leave there. Yes I know that kind of existence is painful. But we live with it J. I am so broke and busy I have no money to pay attention and no time to shake a stick at it.

Wow I need to stop. And sorry for being so late. I don’t want to do life I want to write and give praise. But then when I say happy New Year a bunch at the store I don’t want to come write. Life is tough here. I hope yours is also.

Elijan it is so good to hear from you. I like your counterpoints on repent. That "sorry for" is a sticky wicket indeed. I am just now dealing with my son about saying "sorry". It almost was a habit. "I know" is another one. Yes he probably does know it, but a habit of knowing it is dangerous.

In my home we thought it best for a shutdown. Now we are feeling it as my wife is cut off for it. In Vietnam there was no cantankerousness and she fled it for here. Tough choices

Bless you folks in our capitol. As my daughter is.

      New Year Greetings Eric, brother.

I find your perspective on "Repent" very interesting, in some ways similar to how I define it. However, I don't see Repent meaning to be sorry about nor to regret anything but return to using everything in harmony with all life on earth. That means to never over nor under indulging in anythings but use everything according to the need of the moment, as that is what I believe "providential" means rather than dictionaries' meanings.

Your saying "God does not need to send you (to hell), you are living it" is exactly how I feel. By doing things only for one's own sense gratification with total disrespect for other life types or people creates hell for us all - as the Trump led government is doing. Thus, the need to repent.

May peace be within everyone of you the whole year through.

Dana it occurs to me that real good people like you should resolve not to change. There is just something in the make up of our souls for most of us that trying to do better is what we are.

      Eric,

Every Year I make New Year Resolutions and never follow through with them. So last Year, I told myself I would make a simple resolution and couldn't keep up with that either. So this year for 2019 my New Years resolution is just to try to do better. I'll let you know at the end of this year, God willing, if I achieved that one.

      Happy New Year!

Pamela it is a bit precarious around here. My Irish/Italian roots and my wife's Vietnamese non tonal roots calls for a lot of hand raising and yelling.

Yesterday I was teaching my boy to go all ballistic in conversation. I think our neighbors might have worried :-) But we sure had a good belly laugh.

What a great way to start the new by continuing to focus on love. I turn to the Lord each day, and spening loving time with my loving family is great. It sounds like it would be fun to live at your house for your adorable son. I wish you and your family a great 2019.

Jason M Quinapondan. My son and wife took off to a gala of Filipino cuisine on mid Christmas. My elder children showed up for Christmas on the 28th I think.

My friend set me up so a calendar shows up on my screen. He worries that I do not know what day it is.

It is good to meet you and will come to your home shortly.

You and your family are really cool and keep my mind focused on love.

Today is my wife's birthday, and we celebrated first with chocolates and gave everybody we knew around here a hug.

Again, thanks for keeping our minds and hearts on being loving.
