Except you believe that "I am He"

Updated on October 2, 2015

Jesus. God, or man or both.

An age old question. who is Jesus. Some say that he was just a man, Others say he wasn't a real literal person, just the figurehead of a movement. To answer the question, we have to go to the only place that truly describes who and what he truly is. In the book of Colossians ch. 1 vs. 15 - 18, It says, he is the image of the invisible God. That he created all things. he is before all things. And by him all things consist. In the old testament, the prophet Isaiah, prophesied concerning Christ, that a virgin would conceive and bring forth a son and his name would be interpreted to mean God with us. Sounds incredible. how could a person born of woman be as he said God with us . To understand the Godhead , as referenced in the scripture, God has no beginning or end he is eternal. so how do we reconcile this?

In the book of John,ch 1-1-2, It says, In the beginning. Same as Genesis 1:1.Was the Word . which in the original Greek, means thought or expression. The Word was with God , and the Word was God. Our thoughts and expressions, are just as much a part of us as our physical being. inseparable. Same with God since we were made in his image. In v. 14, the Word, or "expression" was made flesh and dwelt among us and was seen of man. Isaiah 9:6, says, for Unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given. the government will be on his shoulders. And his Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God , the Everlasting Father. The Prince of Peace. Ephesians 4:4-6 says, there is One Spirit, One Lord. One God. So we go back to Isaiah 7-14, where the baby prophesied, is to be God with us.

These scriptures conclude to us ,that Jesus is the very God, that One Spirit, that embodied human flesh and blood. The same God who made all things,( John 1:3) came as promised to redeem us from the curse of sin and to make atonement for us. Heb.9:22 .Without shedding of blood, there is no remission or forgiveness of sins or faults. No man on earth could make atonement. So God had to do it himself if we were to be reconciled with him from our fallen state. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23. We also can see, that Jesus, as God in the flesh, his flesh was no different than ours is. He had the same limitations we have in our bodies. He hungered.Mathew 4:2. He thirsted.John 4:7. He grew weary. John 4:6. He felt sorrow. John 11:35. He was tempted in all points as we are. Yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15.

When Moses was in the wilderness looking after his flocks, He saw a strange sight. in the distance, he could see something burning. After awhile, he saw that whatever it was that was on fire, was not being consumed. So he went over to investigate. On his arrival, he heard a voice speaking. The voice told him that he was the God of Abraham, Isacc and Jacob. To take off his sandals, for he was on Holy ground. He sent Moses on his commission to free his brethren in Egypt. Moses asked God who shall I say it was who sent me? God told him, I AM that I AM sent you. During a confrontation with the Jewish leaders of his day, they wanted to know were he got his authority to forgive sins heal the sick, perform his many miracles. Some times he would answer there questions with parables,or with questions of his own. On one occasion, He said to them," Ye are from beneath. I am from above. Ye are of this world; I am not of this world."

"I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I Am he ye shall die in your sins ( John 8:23-24). Still not understanding, they asked him, Who are you? Jesus said " The same that was from the beginning." They still didn't get it. He was their Creator and Father but they claimed to be Abrahams seed. Jesus said if Abraham was your Father, you would do the works of Abraham. But you seek to kill me. Jesus said, Your Father Abraham , rejoiced to see my day and he saw it. They were bewildered at that saying and said " Your not even fifty years old and you've seem Abraham?" "Jesus answered them saying " Before Abraham was, I Am." and they took up stones to stone him but he passed thru the midst of them. Do we know who Jesus is? or are we like these examples in the Bible. Jesus said we will die in our sins without this revelation.
