Definition of the word Oppress:Which means to suppress by maltreat or abuse or to overburden or to depress mentally or to persecute , or to weight down.
Exodus chapter 22 - 21 : Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Leviticus chapter 25 - 14 : And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbor or buyest ought of thy neighbors have ye shall not oppress one another.
Psalms chapter 10 - 18 : To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of of the earth may no more oppress.
Proverbs chapter 14 - 31 : He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his maker, but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

We or told not suppose to put down or persecute strangers or one another. The bible tells us "That he that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his maker , but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor"which means if we reproach our maker, we condemn or disgrace or criticize or rebuke God. If we honor God, then we have mercy on the poor and unfortunate. We cannot look down on the poor or those that are without means.
