Definition of the word Obedience: To be submissive to authorithy, to obey.
Romans chapter 5 - 10 : For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall be made righteous.
Romans chapter 16 - 26 : But now is made manifest, and by the scripture of the prophets according to the commandment of the ever lasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith.
Hebrews 5 - 8 : Though he were a son , yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered.
Obedience means doing whatever you're told to do but we're stiff neck people and most of us will buck the system, especially if it goes against our belief. When we have children we try to teach them obedience. The book of Proverbs is a teaching tool, that helps us with obedience, wisdom and knowledge. The bible tells us that if we're obedient to our parent, our days shall be long upon the land but if we're disobedient our day will be cut short.
The bible is telling us that hard head and stiff neck people, don't get very far in life becasue of their attitudes and disobedience to God's word. We always want to do it our way, instead of God's way so that means we have a hard road to travel because of our disobedience to God. We are all just like little children to God and he gives us love, advice and instructions to follow and when we disobey, we find ourselves in turmoil. God is good and whatever he tells us to do, it is for our own good. If we follow our God given thoughts, we'll never be disappointed of the out come of any situation that we're involved in; because of God's promise to us.
