"Faye's daily words of encouragement"# 99 Todays word is: Idol"

If we want an idol in our lives, let us idolize God,someone that's going to bless us.
If we want an idol in our lives, let us idolize God,someone that's going to bless us.

"Faye's daily words of encouragement"# 99 Todays word is: Idol"

Definition of the word Idol: An image of a god, objection of devotion, or a famous celebrity.

1 Corinthians chapter 8 -4 : As concerning therefore the eating of those that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God.

1 John chapter 5-21: Little children keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

1 Thessalonians chapter 1 -9 : For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned God from idols to serve God.

Acts chapter 15 - 2 : But that we write unto them, that they obtain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things changed from blood.

Galatians chapter 5 - 20-21 : Idolatry, emulation, witchcraft, variance, emulation, strife, sedition's, heresies, drunkenness, revellings and such like: of the which I tell you before as I have also told you in the past, that they which do such things, shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Being children of God, we have to be very careful about putting to much emphasises on people or things in our lives, that they become an idol, without our knowledge. I don't think we realize sometimes; we're idolizing people and things, but not on purpose.  I think that some times; we forget that we're idolizing someone or something.  There are many people in this world; that will say,he or she is my idol, which is an incorrect assumption on their part.  We idolize celebrities in film and music and things and objects.

The bible speaks against idols, and that because idolatry can lead us to other sinful behavior.  So, we catch ourselves idolizing something or someone to much;we had better pray and ask God to remove the idolization from our hearts and teach us how to stay focus on the work at hand.  If we want to truly idolize someone ; then let's idolize Jesus, which  die on the cross so we can have every lasting life.

It's so true creativeone - many of us are not aware of idolizing others or inanmimate objects. All the glory and honor should go to God and God alone. Thanks for another great reminder.

I like the way you put this as I do not think people always realize that they are idolizing someone or something when, in fact, they are. As you stated, we must be careful lest we offend our God, who is a jealous God.
