Feng Shui Using Essential Oils

Updated on July 7, 2015

Just like salt, essential oils too are used in feng shui to purify and remove negative energy. The oils are also used for relaxation and rejuvenation.

There are three ways essential oils can be diffused into the air of a room:

  • Diffuser
  • Spray Bottle
  • Candles or Incense sticks

The two common types of diffusers used for essential oils are the candle diffuser and the electric diffuser.

The candle diffuser uses a candle to heat the oil and disperse the fragrance throughout the room.

With the electric diffuser the oil is dispersed over a large area of the room unlike the candle diffuser. The electric diffuser can also heat up thicker oils.

Spray Bottle

Essential oils can also be bought in spray bottles.

You can also make your own homemade essential oil using a spray bottle.

  • 1 spray bottle made from glass
  • Clean pure water
  • For every 2 oz of water add 10 drops of the essential oil.

Pour the water and oil into the spray bottle and shake well to mix the ingredients. Then use in the preferred room/rooms.

*Do not use spray bottles made of plastic since the essential oils can get spoiled when kept for a long period of time.

Candles and Incense

Candles and incense sticks containing essential oils are also used in feng shui. Refrain from using candles and incense sticks which have artificial perfumes added to it.

In feng shui the oils used in the products should be pure or else it won't be effective and serve its purpose.

Some popular essential oils used in feng shui are:

Benzoin Oil

Benzoin oil is taken from the Benzoin Tree. The oil has a thick golden color to it and has ‘anti depressant, disinfectant and aromatic properties.’

In feng shui the oil is used to ward off ‘evil spirits.’ It’s often made in the form of incense sticks and used in rooms where an argument has taken place. The oil is believed to remove any bad energy which may be still lingering in the room after a quarrel.

Bergamot oil is made from the peel of the Bergamot citrus fruit which resembles a lemon.

The oil is said to help with depression and worry.

It is commonly dispersed into the air using a diffuser.

This leaves of this remarkable tree can give out two fragrances: peppermint and lemon.

The peppermint oil is said to bring relief to fever whereas the lemon helps to control pests like cockroaches.

The oil can be used with a diffuser or spray bottle and aids in purifying the air.

Jasmine oil is a popular essential oil used in the office to usher in happiness and comfort.

It’s applied to a room using a spray bottle.

Lavender oil is used to remove bad energy and purify a room.

It also soothes and calms the mind.

In feng shui rose oil is used to awaken hidden feelings and shyness.

The oil should not be used in the workplace since it's linked to infidelity.

Rosemary oil is widely used to bring relief to those feeling mentally and physically tired and lacking energy.

Sandalwood oil is believed to be effective against feelings of depression and muscle pain. It also aids in increasing one’s sex drive.

Tea tree

Tea Tree oil is normally used to purify the air in a room where one has been sick.

The oil’s antibacterial properties make it a popular oil to be used to deodorize and sanitize the home and office.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang Ylang oil is used to create a romantic atmosphere in the room.
