Finding Hope in a World of Chaos

Updated on October 4, 2017
It's always too much. Too many shootings. Too many natural disasters. It's too much to handle, and at times we wonder where this world is going.

We were created with this awesome complicated mind, body and spirit with a purpose for good that no hardship can destroy. "For we are saved with hope, but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why does he yet hope for?" Romans 8:24.

When life altering catastrophic events drops us to our knees in pain, as we are riddled with shock and confusion, remember this: "And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever." I John 2:17.

The World is full of Confusion and Chaos

We humans have a problem. We think when terror or catastrophic events befall us that God disappears behind some magical veil in the sky, and closes the clouds to our heartaches. That he is just some big meanie who allows the rain to fall even harder in hurtful times; and when we are drenched in pain, here comes the lightening strikes to finish us off.

He gives us the word of God to encourage us, but then advocates bloodshed in the next chapter or the next book, the next story of some unfortunate life in the Bible.

We bow our heads and cry out to God in heartache, or lift our chins and shake our fists at him when the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket. "Where are you God?!" We wail out. "Why aren't you listening! Why did you let this happen?!" We scream through our pain. "What kind of God are you?!" We question.

In reality, we have been ignorant of a truth that seems to be long forgotten. In God's defense, we were never meant to be saddled with burdens we cannot bear. With pain we cannot quench. With bondage we cannot be freed from. We were never meant to absorb negative life altering events keeping us saddled to oppression, pain and heartache.

During times of heartache it is easy to direct anger attacks toward God, when God is not the one who is billowing chaos in the world. The instigator is the devil, not God.

The devil is roaming around seeking whom he may devour, lurking in a dark corner drooling over your family, your children, sharpening his claws to get a taste of your hopes, dreams and ambitions. He lurks in the darkness seeking to destroy us all. "Be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." I Peter 5:8.

He hunts you. He waits patiently for the right moment to attack you, your family, your future. We think we fight against other humans, when in reality its other humans working with this spiritual adversary of ours to hunt us, to destroy us, to keep us from deliverance.

But then God does something wonderful. He sees everything. Along with mankind having free will to chose our own road in life, God also directs our steps if we align with his will for our life. How? You may ask.

Humans are prone to dreaming, to hoping and making plans for the future. We make our plans, but God directs our steps. We fall down, and God reaches down a hand to help us up. We suffer through life with one hardship after another, but God weaves hope through hardships and refines our hurt into armor. He gives us swords in the form of trust. He gives us spears in the form of courage. He refines us through our life battles to be warriors who don't give up, who don't give in. "Casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you." I Peter 5:7.

Our true adversary isn't God. It's the devil, and the other humans working with him to make humanity more depraved, more enslaved, more oppressed. If you look at the events of our day and see it through the eyes of a deeper battle: of good and evil, light and dark, you can see how so much devastation has entered the world because of its fallen state of deprivation. The world has turned its back on God, and blamed him for everything bad in a world he created to be all good. God knows we live in a fallen world full of false hopes and good intentions from people who may or may not have your best hopes in mind, but the only one qualified to have your best hopes in mind is God.

We were meant to live. We were created to live freely. We were not made to be shackled with burdens and bondage of pain. We were not made to be stepped on, used and abused. We are a mighty creation, endowed with an abundance of talents and perseverance from our creator who has every good intention for our well being.

Our true adversary the devil has a wicked talent for making us believe we deserve to be abused and hurt. His lies are subtle and heartbreaking, drowning our sorrows to the core of our souls. He uses every weakness, every enticement to get our attention so we fall at his feet, raise our fists in the air and blame God, not him.

It's time we blamed the true enemy, and when we find ourselves overwhelmed in confusion and pain, let it be to pour our hearts out to God, who is merciful and only wants the best for us. God heals, empowers and gives us hope. The devil gives us false hopes, and then smashes that hope into pieces that never mend. Only God can take those broken pieces, and melt them together through your hardships and make a work of art.

When life altering catastrophic events drops us to our knees in pain, as we are riddled with shock and confusion, remember this: "And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever." I John 2:17.

We are all going to die one day, and perhaps on our deathbed we will be thankful we allowed a loving creator to heal us through our hardships. Or, we may shake an old, wrinkly fist at him in anger, blaming him for all the bad in the world and wondering why bad stuff happens so much.

A warrior is made, not created. A warrior bleeds and sweats through battling opposition, learning to be a better warrior. Let's all look at life as a true warrior, one who does not lose hope, and one who folds the hand on a knee in prayer, instead of shaking an angry fist at a loving God.

Well said! We each fight a battle daily against those forces that would drag us down to misery and endless woe! Only God can help us rise above and find the good, noble, and wonderful things in life. When we look up to him, we raise our sights for the better!

April, this is a wonderful word of wisdom, encouragement and light!

During these days of calamity in our world today your hub eloquently speaks of the perspective to also see "the forest and not only the trees which may be directly front of us."

God has indeed revealed in His Word a context of understanding if we are inclined and humble enough to seek and receive it.

He lovingly encourages us to know we have an adversary behind the destruction, death and mayhem that is currently on the earth (Eph 6:12) and to learn of his desire toward us his creation (Jeremiah 29:11) which is the complete opposition to the very real forces of evil.

Thanks for being bold to share and I pray many would read and consider the message :-) Voted Up and Awesome!

      All the Best
