Finding True Source of Security In God Alone
Finding True Source of Security
Whom have I in heaven but you ?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and
my portion forever.
Those who are far from you will perish,
You destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, it is good to be near God,
I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge,
I will tell of all your deeds.
What is the greatest source of your refuge or security in this life ?
People of this world consider many sources of security in this world. Many put their confidence upon their education for it provided them an affluent lifestyle. That is the reason why many still pursue graduate studies from prestigious universities all over the world. Quality education is one of the keys in gaining success by this world standard. That is why the field of education is an ever booming business. Being a top graduate of a prestigious university gives you an edge towards success.
Most of the people consider wealth as a true meaaure of success. That’s why most of the people rest their security on material wealth. When you have a fat bank account which worth millions in dollars, when you have a mansion also worth millions in dollars, when you have thriving businesses all over the country, you are considered a great success by this world standard. So wealth becomes the primary source of security of almost all the people of the world. As wealth becomes the primary measure of success it has also become the primary source of security of life in the world.
Holding key positions either in the government or private firms provides also great wealth in life thus had also become a source of security for many people. A prestigious career in top prestigious corporations also provides an affluent lifestyle for a person. Thus, a prestigious career can also be a source of security for a person. People of this world put their confidence on education, position, career, material wealth as the source of security in living in this world.
But are these things the true source of security in this life ?
Asaph, the writer of Psalm 23 had almost slipped and had nearly lose his foothold for he envied the prosperity of the wicked. He resented in his heart that the ungodly continue to prosper in their wickedness. But one day, when he entered the presence of God, God revealed that destruction is the final destiny of the ungodly. God revealed that the prosperity of the wicked is not a permanent scenario. Thus wordly wealth is not permanent and can never become a true source of security.
It is written in 2Corinthians 4:18;
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is temporal.”
The thing that is seen, like the world and the material things the world provide like wealth, palatial house, flashy cars are all temporary and bound to fade away. The thing that is unseen like the Kingdom of God is bound to live on for eternity. Having read this verse, we therefore cannot rest our security on the material wealth the world could provide. Thus wordly wealth can never be a true source of security so with education, position and career. The true source of security is our personal relastionship with God, for it provides us the Kingdom of God.
Finally the psalmist Asaph having known the final destiny of the ungodly is destruction and doom, rest his security and confidence fully in God alone. He is finally resolved that he is complete in God alone, that he is perfectly secure in his relationship with God. God indeed is the ultimate source of security in this life.
As for me, I am complete and perfectly secure in God alone. My personal relationship with Him is my greatest treasure in this world for it provides me the Kingdom of God. Possessing the Kingdom of God means possessing eternal life and salvation. Possessing the Kingdom of God is possessing the best thing in this life. Though I am not wealthy by this world standard, I am just living a very simple life nevertheless I am truly happy and content. For I constantly experience the presence of God. Experiencing the presence of God in your life is a true source of joy in living.
How about you ? Do you want to possess the Kingdom of God ? You must have a personal relationship with God to possess the Kingdom of God in your heart. You can have this personal relationship with God by receiving JesuscChrist as your personal Savior and Lord in your heart. As it is written in John 1 : 12;
“Yet to all who receive him, to those who believe in his name , he gave the right to become children of God.”
You must receive JesusChrist as your personal Savior. You must put your complete trust upon His finished work on calvary as a sufficient sacrifice for the forgiveness of your sins. As it is written in Romans 3:23;
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
All are sinners, therefore all need a Savior. You don’t have to be a murderer to be considered a sinner, a simple lying or hatred qualifies you to be a sinner as it is written in Matthew 5 ;21-22;
“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement.”
It is written in Romans 6:23;
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Sin will lead us to the second death which refers to the “Lake of fire.” Without the blood of Christ atoning for our sins, it is impossible to be saved from the “Lake of fire.” God sent His Son JesusChrist to die for us to provide an atonement for our sins. So that by putting our faith on Christ sacrifice on the cross , we receive forgiveness for all our sins,’and therefore will not be subject to judgement.
You must also receive Christ as your personal Lord. You must surrender your life completely to the Lordship of Christ. You must be willing to forsake your life of sin, self-centerdness and wordliness. Only by receiving Christ as personal Savior and Lord , you can have a personal relationship with God.
Once you received Christ as personal Savior and Lord , you become a new child of God, a heir of the Kingdom of God.
