Finding, Waiting, Listening, and Hearing God
A Bad Start to My Week
This week has been rough for me in so many ways. I really do not know where to start but being honest is the only way I can think of. I was beaten down pretty bad this week again by outside circumstances which I keep pulling myself back up from but it was not me that pulled me back up this week. The enemy constantly has been at me and I gave up, posting online the verse from Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves…” I felt like I was being eaten by wolves when I posted this. So tired of dealing with everything going wrong and so tired of hearing my husband say that God has a plan for us that everything will work out, that we won’t have to continue having “Job days” we will be brought back in abundance. I was so negative in everything and I was sick on top of it all I wanted to do was sleep…sleep the days away so I wouldn’t have to be confronted with more issues, more problems, more denials. Then God showed me His love for me and I woke up and said I will not allow myself to let the enemy break me from my place in God. Through these times I am stubborn and hide from others because I just do not want to deal with anything, but after talking to a couple sisters in Christ they brought me out of my dumperdays with praises of God and hearing his voice and showing them signs and beauty in their turmoil as well. One of the women in our group shared a video with me in which the topic was “How to restore your faith in hearing the voice of God? (below) This really helped me in more ways than I can say. I was at a point where I didn’t want to wait on God anymore because in my mind he wasn’t answering me in the time I needed Him to and since I wasn’t getting the answers I needed I wanted to take matters into my own hands, but God stopped me.
Countenance of God
COUNTENANCE is appearance, usually of the face, your demeanor, expression, features and aspect. Divine countenance is the face of God. In the Bible it says in Exodus 33:20 that God says “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” And in the New Testament John 1:18 states “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” I don’t believe God is saying we have to look on His face to see how He feels or reacts to us when we fall short, or even when we praise Him, it is the sight of the divine glory which surrounds God that we can see because that same divine glory surrounds us when we are in a close relationship with God. That is the countenance we have to share with others to uplift them through Him, to help others find Him, and to see that when we are stuck in misery by defeat and stubbornness. We see this when in the Old Testament the blessings passed by Moses to the children of Israel, Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you;The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” I believe God is saying that in our times of trials that He never stops loving us, comforting us, blessing us, it is us that stop ourselves from seeing the countenance He places on us. If we put up a barrier to block out things from affecting us, we are ultimately blocking out God as well and when we do that we are stopping ourselves from hearing the voice of God.
Patience is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit
PATIENCE is the willingness to endure…our composure, self-control, tolerance, perseverance, persistence, and humility. In a moment I lost this, it was God that picked me back up. Some days are harder than others to be patient, we bring our concerns to God again and again and we feel like He isn’t hearing us and grow impatient of waiting. Galatians 5 tells us that patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit; we have a need for endurance that we receive the promise from God for doing the will of God. We learn through scripture that in having patience and comfort we have hope. Isaiah 40:28-31 shows us this “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Also two times in Luke he states; Luke 8:15 “ "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” Again, Luke 21:19 “By your patience possess your souls.” Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit therefore we need to learn to use this tool by waiting on God because God doesn’t disappoint, He doesn’t want us to be broken, but through our brokenness is when He is closest to us and we can’t block out outside circumstances because like I said before we block out God. We have to seek God in all we do, seek to hear Him, seek to listen, and learn to discern His voice. As the beginning of the previous video showed us, we as mothers can pick out our own screaming child amongst a huge group of children because we know our child’s voice, we are God’s children and He knows and hears our voices, our cries of despair, and our need for comfort. God never fails us. It is worldly and human nature to want to do things on our own, to want to bypass waiting on God and fix things. We may not understand at this current time why, but later when God reveals to us and shows us what we receive from Him through our patience with Him, it results in praises of God in your life. I was reminded of this because of a job that I applied for that someone else I knew received instead. I was more qualified, not being conceited, but through my education and work history and their lack of both I could not understand why God did not allow me to get this position over the other person. This week that person came to me and said the company was closing their facility and moving it to another location and they were no longer going to be employed as the location was in western U.S.. Reflecting back on my anger with God about that I now see why He did not allow that to happen, I would be in the same place I am now only worse because I would have spent so much time and energy only in the end he knew before hand that I would eventually not be compensated. After He revealed this to me, as I had forgotten about it, He did so in love showing me that if I have patience He will guide me and give me what He desires me to have in time.
PRIDE causes us to block out blessings. It is self-serving, not god serving. It is our ego, our self; love, regard, satisfaction, sufficiency, worth, confidence, respect, etc... I am a giver; I always have been and have had some very bad endings to friendships because of this. I would give and give to the point I would cut myself short and people would take and take and leave when I had nothing left to give. I never thought I had pride, but I do. I do because I cannot receive in happiness, I find myself receiving in guilt that I do not deserve to take anything and that is self, and that is pride. I keep hearing a scripture our pastor quoted in a sermon a few weeks ago where it states in James 4:6 “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Pride causes us to turn away from God instead of turning to Him. All disobedience has pride as its root; all rebellion has pride behind it. Pride is just as bad as not having patience because we would rather do things on our own as with patience we don’t want to wait on God and with pride we don’t want to turn to God. So where are we at when we have these things in us? I can answer that, we aren’t with God. The Bible shows us this in many verses, the root of pride is we think we can make it without God, a proud person doesn’t pray much at all and a person praying all the time isn’t bothered much with pride. Pride is stopping us from submitting to God, 1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” There is a pattern in the Bible, don’t be full of pride because when you are you cannot receive the grace God wants to give you.
God is Happiness, Fill Yourself With Him
...and right now in the good times and bad, you are on your throne, you are God alone...
HAPPINESS is high spirits, satisfaction, bliss, contentment, elation, peace of mind, well-being, and optimism. Happiness is the same as optimism which is the opposite of negativity, despair, depression, misery, pain, sorrow, and trouble. This is basically all of the above that I have written about. God wants us to be filled with happiness at all times, when we are filled with God and kick all of the negatives and its synonyms out of us we can find this. Our happiness should not depend on our circumstances in life, when we turn to God and His gifts that He has for us to use and for His glory and creation all around us we can experience the joy that God intends for all of us to have. This fullness of life is available to everyone, CLAIM your joy, peace, and the spiritual abundance that is flowing down from God like a river into us. I ran across this quote; “God has charged Himself with full responsibility for our eternal happiness and stands ready to take over the management of our lives the moment we turn in faith to Him.” ~A. W. Tozer That really says it all.
Take God's Hand
CHOOSE is to accept, select, designate, favor, love, prefer, and want. What does God want us to choose? I know that God wants us to choose Him over everything, over every want, desire, need, over our life. He wants us to choose life, to choose the path that leads to righteousness. Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” I have already chosen Christ as my Savior, I have already chosen God. What God is telling me now is to choose Him to take over, to break the bondage of negativity, worry, doubt, fear, misery, depression. He is standing right by me saying I am here, choose me and I can take all of that away. He knows the matters of my heart; He knows how tired I am and how many times I have been kicked down and how much I can’t keep going without him. He is extending his hand toward me saying choose me over the brokenness of the world. This truly brings me to tears because I have been so angry more times than not towards God because I feel like I shouldn't be so broken in life at this point in my life, I feel I shouldn't have to wait so long for something good to happen, and I feel like the bad things that do happen shouldn't and I feel like I can’t keep going like this because it is literally breaking me down physically. I am saying this in vulnerability because I cannot explain why God gave me this word without doing so. I know God doesn't make bad things happen, I know even in death a sister told me He shows us His glory, He shows us the blessings, He is always there and I feel pain in my self because of my anger I have felt that God doesn't deserve to receive from me when all He does is love me unconditionally, so choose God, choose not to be angry, sad, miserable, depressed, discouraged, choose to be with God.
Waiting on God
CONFIDENCE is assurance, certainty, spirit, belief. Having confidence in God is what we need to do. Philippians 3:3 “For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,” Trusting in God is vital because it represents a critical foothold in difficult times. It is truly the remedy for a troubled heart. My heart has no doubt been troubled as a few others that I know. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.” We have this as our confidence in God, He lives together with us because His spirit is within us at all times, He never leaves us. We are constantly being filled with God’s Holy Spirit like an endless river. Having this confidence in that gives us the peace and comfort we desire in our times of need as well as when we are not in need because the fire inside us is God’s fire, to glorify and edify Him in all things great and small. God does not disappoint.
Live and Let God
DILIGENCE is perseverance, carrying out action, alertness, earnestness, constancy, intentness and vigor. During the week I write down the words mediate on them and listen for God, but when I write these up is then that God puts everything together for me and coming to this word after all the other words I received I am still awed by how he pulls it all together for me. Diligence is to never give up…In Deuteronomy 11:13-15 “And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.” Then in Jeremiah 29:13 it states “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” In Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” God tells us we should abound in diligence 2 Corinthians 8:7 “But as you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in this grace also.” Again in Hebrews 6:11-12 “And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
God wants us to be consistent in our faith and in our ways turning to Him each step of the way. It is based on seeking his face (countenance), being patient in all that He has in store for us, ridding ourselves of pride and negativity so that we can be filled with the fullness of His happiness for us, choosing to allow Him to take over our pain and having the confidence in Him. Consistency in all of this is based on our trust in God and when we develop this trust and confidence in God our lives will not be easily shaken. Diligence is key to obeying Him and following His lead, not following our own. It doesn’t work that way with God. He leads, Christ finds, we accept, we follow Christ and our salvation is secure. Deuteronomy 6:17-19 “You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the Lord swore to your fathers, to cast out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken.” This isn’t about following laws, as we are saved by grace; it’s about staying full of God, reading the Bible, studying the word. Live and let God.
