Instant Free Charts & Interpretations, No Registration Required; Tested for Accuracy

Your astrological birth chart or natal chart is unique to you, and a full reading of your birth chart is much more specific and revealing than a Sun-sign character reading. Knowing your own natal chart is a key to self-understanding through astrology.

None of these sites requires you to register or give your email address. I have checked the interpretations they give and each delivers very basic but acceptable birth-chart interpretations. You enter your birth date, place and time. Tips:

  • When entering your birthplace, you are asked to enter only its first three letters. If there are several cities with the same name (such as “Springfield”), after you enter "SPR" it will generate a list of these cities and ask you to select the correct one.
  • Most of these ask you to give the time in “military” style: for example, 2 p.m. would be 14:00.
  • If your birth time is unknown, entering 6:00 A.M. will create a “sunrise chart” that will give you a reasonably good default reading although it will not be pinpoint accurate.

A birth chart shows us what “cards we are dealt” as we enter the world and what we must work on to be who we want to be. It does not “determine your fate”; that is a myth. And although every chart shows challenges, it also shows where our strengths are; there is no such thing as a “bad” chart. I hope your astrological personality profile enlightens and fascinates you.

Alabe.com is the #1 free chart service. “Alabe” is short for “astrolabe,” the analog instrument that old-time sea captains used to chart their course. The interpretations are very good.

From this site you will receive your astrological “profile” only, not the pie-shaped chart; but the profile is excellent.

Choose either one of these two sites below and you will get the same, very good, free chart and interpretation:

In addition to birth charts, 0800-horoscope.com offers a daily horoscope and weekly Sun-sign horoscopes by Rita Ann Freeman and Canadian astrologer Deborah Browning. Cafeastrology.com has many tools and articles for exploring astrology in depth, and also monthly horoscopes which are satisfying although they are computer-generated.

This one is different. Enter your information and your chart will appear. Click on the planetary symbols, and popups will detail what they mean for you. A good learning experience.

(Do you want to know what a “trine” or “sextile” is (that “sextile” really catches people’s eyes!)? Click here. They’re really just the measurements between a chart’s planet placements.)

Most sites will sell you, for about $35, a computer-generated birth-chart report that goes into much more depth. For readings about present and future conditions, or partner compatibility, or if seeking the answer to one specific question, consult a human astrologer, preferably one you can meet in person. Do not consult a “psychic.” Astrology is not “psychic” and a “psychic” is not an astrologer.

A few other sites do generate birth charts and profiles, but are not good if you don’t know how to calculate "GMT," or if blinking advertisements distract you.

Dear ATaurusLoyality: A natal chart is a sky map showing the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at the moment of your birth. Astrologers are trained to read and interpret the symbols and variables in the chart (you can see Steve Jobs' natal chart in the illustration) and can tell you what it "reveals about your basic personality." Chart reading gets very technical. It's like translating a foreign language. Most people want only the interpretation or meaning of their charts. The sites listed in the article offer a simplified interpretation of a birth chart, but although simplified they are not bogus. They are fun and can be helpful for understanding yourself and other people.
