Fruit of the Holy Spirit - Intro
After prayer and patience I have felt it upon my heart to write a series based on the fruit of the Spirit, what they mean and how we can apply them to our everyday life. Following this there will be 9 more parts to this series. It is essential that we flow in the fruit of the Spirit because they are our character in Christ. We are to walk in Christ and live following Him and in doing so we must learn to incorporate each of these fruit in our lives. I know that for myself I lack in a few of these, maybe more.
The Fruit of the Spirit
A Good Read & Good Christian Author
What are the Fruit?
The fruit of the Spirit are found in the book of Galatians. In chapter 5 verses 22-23 it states “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
- Long Suffering
God promises that admitting to ourselves that we have been walking our own way and ask for His help, He will help us through His Spirit to live above our flesh and turn from the world and live the abundant life for which He has created for us. He tells us this - to take up our cross and follow Him. Matthew 16:24-26 "Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? In this statement Christ is saying "take up his cross, and follow me" does not mean stressful situations and burdens. This means that we are to be willing to die in order to follow Jesus. To die to self to gain our eternity in Heaven. Following Christ is always easy when things in our life runs smoothly; our true commitment to Him is revealed during our falls and trials, it is then that our true nature and love for Christ is expressed. It is through the fruit of the Holy Spirit that we can show our Christ like character and surely stand on the rock and be above ourselves and our flesh.

The Holy Spirit Our Helper
Why Do We Have the Holy Spirit?
God sent His Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us when Christ went back to Heaven after His resurrection because God knew we needed a helper in order to get us to the place that God wants us to be. With that helper came attributes, nine of them, from the one fruit which is the Holy Spirit. I see a common theme in the bible where we are referred to more times than not as trees. Especially when Christ stated in John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” So in meditating on this verse it shows us that we bear fruit in Christ because without Him we can do nothing…the fruit of the Holy Spirit is Christ in us therefore we need those fruit in order to live a healthy spirit filled Christian life.

Where Do the Fruit Come From?
As I stated earlier the fruit of the Spirit comes from the Holy Spirit that Christ was able to send to us to help us on our walk with Him to God and our final resting place. When we utilize this amazing gift we have to remember that the fruit do not come from us, they are not from Christians, they are coming from the Holy Spirit…The word Spirit is capitalized because it shows authority so therefore it is by the Holy Spirit we can access the fruit and learn God’s true divine personality and character that in time when we practice using these in our everyday lives we can work them into our Christian spirit and be more Christ like in our life.
What is the Difference between Flesh and Spiritual Fruit?
What is the difference between utilizing the fruit of the Spirit versus the flesh? Before Paul listed the fruit of the Spirit he listed the fruit of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Let’s list them side by side as shown in the photo below...

More on Fruit
I am sure other Spirit filled fruit can be linked to the words Paul used to explain the fruit of the flesh but it’s showing that it is all against God’s character and something we need to put away. Whatever may be blocking you from flowing in the fruit is something we each need to work on to walk upright with Christ. The more we can live in His fruit, the closer relationship we can have with Him. Galatians 5:16-18 "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
Each day we all wrestle with flesh because we are human. In the series to follow I will be going over each of the fruit to explain them, how they work, and how to utilize them in our everyday. It is through practicing to live in the ways of Christ that it will eventually become second nature to us. We have to remember that we have the Holy Spirit inside us to help us in overcoming the flesh. When we were transformed into a new creation in Christ many of our fleshly desires faded into nothing without even realizing it because God's love is flowing through us constantly. This biggest hurdle is to learn, understand and know the ways of God and understanding His personality and character will bring us closer to Him than we have been before. "But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man...The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual." 1 Corinthians 2:9-13
