Gates of Thanksgiving

Updated on November 27, 2010

I've been getting my notes ready for my Sunday sermon. The subject is Thanksgiving. You may ask why a message on Thanksgiving now? Because thanksgiving is to be an ongoing lifestyle for the child of God--not just a once a year event.

Rather than go into the detail of each verse, I'm simply giving the folks the Scripture reference and let the Holy Spirit speak to their hearts. That's what I've done here. If you are really thankful to God for what He has done, then take a few minutes to look up the verses and let the Holy Spirit speak directly to you from His Word.

Oh, I could comment on each verse, but what does God want to speak directly to you? Take the time to be quiet before the Lord and listen.

I. Gates of Thanksgiving (Psalm 100:4)

II. Sacrifice of Thanksgiving (Hebrews 13:5)

III. A Thankful Spirit (Psalm 103:1, 2)

IV. A Daily Thanksgiving (Psalm 145:2)
     A. A Continual Thanksgiving (Hebrews 13:15)
         1. Throughout life (Psalm 71:17, 18)

V. Do All with Thanksgiving (Colossians 3:16, 17)

VI. Share Thanksgiving (Psalm 26:7)

VII. Exalt God by Thanksgiving (Psalm 69:30)

VIII. Sing with Thanksgiving (Psalm. 147:7)
      A. Melody for Thanksgiving; for Magnifying God (Isaiah 51:3)

IX. Acknowledge Answered Prayer Before God Answers (Philippians 4:6)

X. Thanksgiving as a Lifestyle (Colossians 2:7; 4:2)

XI. Acknowledge God’s Blessings Through Thanksgiving (Colossians 4:3)

XII. Thanksgiving Belongs to God (Revelation 7:12)

I'd be interested to hear how God spoke to you through His Word. What thoughts did He give to you that you can share with others? I'll be waiting to hear!

Yes, having a thankful heart...is one of the best frames of mind and heart to be in:) We have so much to be appreciative for! We can usually find something, to be thankful for daily..even minute by minute:) Great Hub! Hope it was a good sermon:)

I know it is always having great faith in GOD every day, and giving thanks to Him for everything. I will have to read the scriptures.

I got that thanksgiving is a lifestyle and attitude towards God and the life he has given us and this should be expressed as such in our words and in song. Thankfulness for God's goodness should also be acknowledged in good times and hardship. It is the way into His very presence.

      Thanksgiving is a two-edged sword.

One: It effects me. If I choose to have a heart of thanksgiving and walk through those gates of thanksgiving on a daily basis, I am a much different person than I would be without that decision. Ask those around me which they would prefer and there will be no argument. They all appreciate the smile.

Two: God inhabits the praises of His people. He must love to hear them! When my 20-month grandson says to me, "Tattu, Bea (his name for me)", my heart melts. It's so precious I just want to keep kissing him.

When his 8-year-old brother thanks me for taking him on a day trip, I can hear the appreciation in his voice. I know he is wandering over the memories of all the fun things we did, the funny things we said, the beautiful things we saw. I hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes...and my heart melts.

Since we are created in God's image, I have to believe that His Father heart melts as well.

We give praises and thanksgiving to our Father always. Thanks for the moment to glorify Him in love and thanksgiving once again. All glory to God!

What a great way to give thanks! Some of my favorite verses. Seems we always go to God for our needs and don't take the time to be truly thankful for what He has already done and will do.

You've said it rightly! It is an "ongoing lifestyle" and "not just a once a year event." Praise Ye Yah! Peace.
