Ghosts & Orbs St. Augustine, Florida

Updated on September 11, 2014

St Augustine, Florida is infamous for its many haunted sites. Ghost tours are offered on about every block of the city.

I have visited 2 times and I love it. I have not however, done the ghost tour thing. On this page I am going to share a story about our second visit to St. Augustine, and what we encountered during that visit.

Ever heard of orbs before?

St. Augustine Orb Photos

Before we left on our trip to St. Augustine my husband (Cory) mentioned something about a conversation he had with a coworker. The discussion was about catching ghosts in pictures in the form of orbs. I had been to St. Augustine once before, but was unaware of this capability. Cory is not a believer in the supernatural, so it was funny that "he" mentioned it to "me".

Our Visit To Castillo de San Marcos

As the sun went down...

And the moon came out. We all went to the fort, where Nicole (my youngest) INSISTED on walking all the way around in the moat.

Amber (my oldest) was not thrilled with this, so she sat on a bench with her music blasting in her ears, and her camera in hand. She was taking pictures of the sky above the moat.

The almost full moon was getting brighter, as the sky got darker.

My husband sarcastically asks my daughter if she is trying to capture orbs, and just then, she jumps up and says: "OMG! I got one!". Sure enough, there was a white blob, plain as day. My husband explained it away as a reflection of the moon, or a reflection of the lights on the fort. Then he took the camera and wiped off the lens, because the lens just HAD to be dirty.

So HE started taking the pictures...

And again there they were! And again, and again, and again. So he gave the camera back to my daughter. She continued to photograph the graveyard, and throughout our walk back to the hotel. These orbs, or whatever they are, are captured in almost all of the photos.

I live in Florida and St. Augustine is my favorite place to visit. I was going weekly for a while, I just love the atmosphere there. The only place I have ever felt a "presence" was in the old jail... It just felt like someone was standing to close to me, but there was no one around me.

After finally catching up with the Angel School Bus, I am fluttering around Haunting-ville to drop off some Blessings. Just wanted you to know I am here because your page caught my attention. Leaving you with a *Blessing* for doing such a great job on this page.

I once saw a vampire being resurrected at an old Connecticut cemetery. The whole story is on my lens "Halloween, It's Origins and Modern Day Halloween Traditions". I would have provided a link, but I don't know that it would be acceptable here. See you around the galaxy...

Interesting observation on orbs, is there a way - can you establish connection with them.

Yes, I have just added the link to my lens on the ghost of Toys 'R Us. One of the pictures I took of the stairs to the stockroom has two orbs in the picture.

I have not been fortunate enough to capture an orb on film nor actually see one for real. But I do believe in spirits and they take all forms.

Yes, we have captured orbs in pictures. I don't ever remember anyone seeing them before digital cameras though. I've heard lots of ideas of what they could be. I'm not ruling anything out - could be spirits (good or bad) or could be something else. We live in St. Augustine and you've got lots of excellent info in this lens.

I went on a holiday to Transylvania and took a picture of my girlfreind climbing some stairs in a creepy passage in Bran Castle. Her entire face was obscured by a giant orb!

I remember when we were in Glenwood Spring CO visiting my inlaws, we went to a large old hotel, don't think it was in Glenwood, can't recall, but it was nearby, it was a beautiful old place, said to be haunted, and had a notice as you went in stating it was so. We went through the hallways, and listened down an old dumbwaiter I guess you call it, and heard sounds like screaming, and had ourselves convinced we were hearing ghosts. It was a fun outing, but I'm not sure what I think about whether there are really ghosts of people wandering the earth:-) Thanks for you for donating this lens to the Haiti cause. ~claudia
