God CAN Save You
“God can’t save you from me.” This quote from the theatrical release Faster was included in the promotional trailer for a reason. It gets your attention and piques your interest. Who is this man that not even God Himself can save one from? If you pull up the movie on IMDb and click the character’s link, you are directed to a page dedicated to the character. Under the heading “Fun Stuff”, you will find the quote again. This kind of brash writing may make good dialogue, but that way of thinking will lead to ultimate destruction.
Proverbs 16:5 counsels, “The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.” When we eschew the teachings and examples set by the Lord and choose to live life without his help and influence, we set ourselves up for ruin as evident in v 18 of the same chapter, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” Although created in His image, man is not God and should never elevate himself to or above God. We should be mindful that our successes are not the result of our own strengths but stem solely from God’s grace. Not only can God save, He has saved us through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.
It is beautiful that we live in a nation that embraces free speech as a means of expression. However, with freedom comes responsibility. Let’s be a little more responsible with our words and actions.
