God Is All Around You

Updated on January 29, 2011

The question has been asked: Does God exist? My answer is this: “Look around you”. He is everywhere and in everything we see. From the tiniest flower to the largest mountain we see the beauty and majesty of God.

Try sitting alone in a forest sometime. Listen to the wind whispering through the treetops. Hear the gentle laughter of a babbling brook. Enjoy the sweet song of the birds as they sing you a lullaby. God is all around you.

Go to the beach at sunset. See the brilliant and beautiful colors in the sky as the sun sinks through the western horizon. Watch the waves as they break upon the shore and listen to their soothing sound. Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes and remember what it felt like when you were a child. God is all around you.

Climb a mountain. Close your eyes and feel the wind blowing through your hair. Breathe in the cool freshness. Now open your eyes and look out across the distance. Notice how the land flows together. There are no seams. No imperfections. Observe the beauty of a river flowing thousands of feet below you.  God is all around you.

Take a ride above the clouds in an airplane. The clouds envelope you as you fly through them and the world instantly seems dark and dreary. But then you leave the clouds and soar far above them. The sun is bright. The air is clear. See how perfect the sky looks. Observe the pure whiteness of the clouds below. They look like mountains and yet they float in the air. God is all around you.

Watch the snow fall in the early winter. See how its pure whiteness covers the fields and hides the deadness of winter. Notice how the sun reflects off of the snow and makes it seem even brighter than the pure white it already holds. God is all around you.

Look into the face of a baby. Feel the elation when he smiles at you. Hold him close as he tries to wrap his arms around your neck. Consider the innocence of his trust in you. Your heart fills with joy. God is all around you.

You can’t look in any direction without seeing God. His love shines forth in every part of creation. His master plan is evident in everything you see. From the way gravity keeps the rock sitting on the ground and doesn’t let it float away into space, to the complexity of the human brain, God’s design shows. Think of the beauty of the rainbow. God could have created the world in black and white and we wouldn’t know the difference, but He chose to give us color just because He cares. And He loves you and me so much that he was willing to send His perfect Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Then to raise Him again three days later, proving Him to be the Son of God. Now He offers eternal life to any who would believe on Jesus. This is the love toward us from God. Aren’t you glad that God is all around you?
