God of All Comfort
The God of All Comfort
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings so also you share in our comfort.
2 Corinthians 1 : 3 - 7
The greatest source of true comfort is no other than God our Father.
We can never find true comfort in the alternatives offered by the World. The world offer many alternatives to give us momentary relief from our sorrows and loneliness. What the world offers is just a momentary relief, but not a lasting comfort. Videoke bars and dance floors will only offer temporary comfort but will really never resolve the true source of discomfort. After dancing the night away, tomorrow all your sorrows are back.
Why God is the true source of comfort ?
God is the true source of comfort because He alone is the everlasting one. He alone will never change and will remain faithful at all times. God is true to His promise in Hebrews 13:5, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” God is with His beloved children in all circumstances of their lives. In sickness, in deep mourning, in distress. There is no single moment that God is not compassionate with His precious children. At all times, God’s presence is with His beloved children. He does not pay back evil with their transgressions. We can always count on God in times of our deep sorrows, distresses, deep necessities.
God has always been my comfort in times of distresses in my life. I experienced great distresses in my past life, I experienced to be in a burning forest, burning building. Everytime I experience distress I just call on the Name of the Lord and I find deliverance everytime I call on the Name of the Lord. Truly the Name of the Lord is liken to a strong tower, in times of danger, his children run to it and find safety.
God comforts us in all our tribulations, so that we may help other suffering people. God allows us to experience severe trials and sufferings in our life so that we may be a godly vessel to help others be comforted in all their sufferings. We will never become great counselors unless we experience victory over great difficulties in our lives. We will only become a channel of comfort to others when we ourselves have experienced trials and sufferings. We can only be good counselors to the broken hearted , if we ourselves experience heartaches. We learn from our trials and sufferings.
There was once a dynamic preacher who was able to preach great messages excellently. Out of his preaching ministry, he was able to put up a school. This school thrived and became successful. One day the dynamic preacher met a tragic trial that will tremendously affect his preaching ministry, he lost his voice. The man had an operation and he regained his voice. The man was greatly humbled by the trial. He learned to be more considerate with people whom he was working with. Before he was a bit hard on dealing with them. After the trial of losing his voice, he was humbled down and became more gentle in dealing with people.
Trials and sufferings mold us into men and women of great virtues. The Apostle Paul is teaching us that one of the reasons why God lets you and me go through hard times is to break us, so that we will become good vessel to be used in ministering to hurting people.
Sharing in the sufferings of Christ
When sufferings overflows, comfort also overflows. The greater the suffering, the greater the comfort, the more I have to share with others.
Let us learn from the examples of Paul’s life.. He undergoes rejection and opposition in preaching the Gospel. In the midst of all trials, the God of all comfort comes alongside with Paul and takes away the heavy load off his shoulder, and Paul is comforted.
The Corinthians see that and as they suffer the same things, Paul comes along side and takes the heavy load off their shoulders. So instead of quitting under pressure, they develop patient endurance.
I may say, the trials and tribulations Apostle Paul experienced in his life contributed greatly to his success in his missionary endeavours. The trials in Apostle Paul’s life molded him into a man of great endurance and virtues. I may say trials in Paul’s life contributed to his becoming a great missionary of God.
God is ever victorious in bringing comfort to Paul’s life. Paul is victorious because he chose to seek refuge is the God of all comfort.
