God Answers Prayers
I believe that God still hears and answers prayers today. I have had prayers answered, big and small. Some, right away...but others took longer time. Like the saying goes..."He may not come when you want, but He'll be there right on time."
Waiting means trusting that God has our best interest in heart and will deliver according to His plan. We have to remember that God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours. He sees the bigger picture; things we can't see and may not understand right now. He knows what's best for us and understands the condition our hearts and our circumstances more that we can begin to realize. Sometimes what we want is not what we need. We may have to wait...perhaps not exactly what we asked for, but something actually better for us.
In my personal experiences with prayer, I find the key ingredients for answered prayers are:
1) Faith and belief in God; Believe that He IS; Believe that He is able; Believe in and pray in Jesus' name
2) Sincerity when you pray; Pray from your heart
3) Let go of any bitterness or unforgiveness
4) Vulnerability and honesty; Come clean, and poor out your emotions to God; Be yourself; Don't be afraid to ask
7) Remain thankful
Here are some scriptures (Bible.com) and some of my favorite songs about prayer:
Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 65:24 - Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.
Romans 8:26 - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Mark 11:24 - Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Matthew 18:19-20 - Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I among them.
Hebrews 4:16 - Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
