Going higher in God
Experiencing God on a higher level through prayer
What does it mean to experience God?
Experiencing God is an act of knowledge; to know, to live through, and to have first hand knowledge of situation, emotions, or sensation.
How do you experience God?
God is God. He is above all, and His mysteries are unsearchable; so how do we experience God on a higher level? The way you experience Him is through Prayer, you actively go looking for Him, this is referred to as “seeking God.” To seek God is to seek His face, His heart, and His mind. Jeremiah 29:13 “And he shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart” Whatever level you seek God on you will find Him, that is a promise from God Himself. His words said seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open unto you, ask and it shall be given unto you.
You have to first seek God in order to experience Him, seeking God means to be in His presence, and you are making a conscious choice to turn your heart and mind towards God while forgetting about yourself and the care of this world. Matthew 6:31-33 says “seek ye first the kingdom of God and all His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Seeking God on a higher level is for Christians, who is already saved, sanctified and filled with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and you want to move forward from where you are with Him; you want to increase in Him and in the knowledge of Him. This is where you have an unquenchable thirst and a deep hunger for God, it’s where you find yourself totally unsatisfied with your level of relationship, you are not satisfied just with what you have and you want way more.
From a human perspective, an example of this would be: Meeting someone of the opposite sex and connecting with them, as you spend time with them, getting to know them you begin to bond with them. As you continually share your space, time, and intimacy with them you are getting closer and closer each day, and after a while you are not satisfied with just that level of friendship anymore and you begin to want more from the relationship.
As your relationship grows so does your appetite for the person, because of who they are, what they are to you, and what they bring to your life, your heart has open wider and deeper towards them. Your time with them is vey precious and you treasure every moment with them, you want them more available to you, you want them to be your number one, and so you do every thing possible to secure your place in their heart.
Your love appetite has intensified, they are now under your skin so to speak, because they meet and exceed your expectation, and you see and value all that they are. At this point in the relationship you have invested your self in that person and you want to reap the benefits of a mature relationship so you are more focused on ways to enhance what you already have in order to take your relationship to the next level.
The next level in your mind is the ultimate commitment of marriage “I do – Till death do us part”, so there is now a new strategy in place to accomplish your desire.
You now possess your vision, mission, and plan, it’s now time to execute it, with this in mind, you’ll have to stay the course because you do not want to loose your momentum nor any of your connection with them that you have already established. Your focus is directed at getting your precious diamond ring, so you pursue with determination, steadfastness, and being relentless in your pursuit of him and your happiness, looking with a great expectation that there will be a marriage proposal in the end.
It’s like that movie “Fatal attraction” the lengths that the female went to in order to be with her object of desire, it’s where you pursue another regardless of the cost because you have determined in your mind that this person is the one for you and you just can’t live without them. You do every thing humanly possible to be with that person, to be in there presence. It’s just that way when you are in pursuit of a higher level in God; you have to have that same intensity, burning passion, and an urgent desire to know God. To seek God is going beyond your self and into God, where it’s totally about Him and not your needs, it’s getting to know Him for Him and not what He can do for you, seek His heart not His hands, the question now becomes “what can I do for you Lord?”It’s all about you, it’s all about you Lord.
Getting into God’s presence
To really get into God’s presence you have to first have a very strong burning desire, and a strong determination to obey Him no matter the cost, a craving in your soul to connect with Him in a deeper way and to have a deeper relationship with Him. 1Chronicles 22:19 “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God.” This is not a seeking for what you can get but it is a seeking of what you can do for the kingdom, as with Solomon as he went forth to build the temple of the Lord. Solomon had to seek God face, His instruction of what God wanted and how God wanted him to proceed, when you seek God in this manner you seek His supernatural wisdom, knowledge and understanding. God is always talking but most time we are not listening, so as you immerse yourself in Him you open up the channel to hear God fluently, clearly, and frequently. God will respond to you and He will reveal Himself to you and all that He has for you as you continue to seek Him, He will begin to manifest His glorious presence to you, and take you from glory unto glory in Him, showing you mighty things that you know not of in the spirit and you will be forever changed.
In 1 Corinthians 2; 9-12 it states that “Eyes has not seen, nor ears heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them who love Him. But God has revealed them to us by His spirit: for the spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.” You see the things of God cannot be seen with the natural eyes, heard through natural ears, or perceived through natural emotions because God is a spirit and spiritual things only can be perceived by that which is spiritual.
Means of seeking God
One of the main ways you seek God is through Prayer.
Prayer is an open dialogue – a two way communication between a human being and a Sovereign God (Lord, Father). Prayer is your way of communicating with God and listening to God on an intelligent basis, it comes from a result of what you believe about God in your heart. There are many aspect to prayer and the two greatest is Faith and Trust, when you are preparing to meet with God you must be assured that what you are believing God for will come to pass, ( Hebrew 11:6) “ he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” therefore you cannot meet with Him in the natural, it has to be done in the realm of the spirit through faith, John 4:24 it tells us that “God is a Spirit; and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.”
With faith you must believe that which you are asking for, or talking to God about is within His ability and realm to respond. In your prayer time is where you will spend quality quiet time with God meditating and worshipping God for who He is. Can you go to God in prayer and lay prostrate before Him with reverence and humility for 1 hour? In this time you simple love on Him, adore, and worship Him in spirit and in truth, just to be still in His presence focusing on Him and Him alone while acknowledging Him for who He is.
In seeking God you have to open your mouth and speak out loud (not yelling, God is not deaf) with boldness and confidence because you know who God is, and you are asking for more of Him, this is not a time of timidity or for silent prayer. Apart of seeking God is calling out, and crying out to Him, lifting your voice, and weeping. In seeking God you have to make a conscious effort to get through the natural realm and apply your hearts and mind to the spiritual realm through which you get Revelation and understanding.
There are times when you are seeking God and you want to plead for certain things because your need is of the utmost importance and you need to get God’s attention fast, in this situation I suggest that you get really personal with God and address Him by the name that represent your need. Upon entering your secret place, call upon God by the name that identifies Him, His name is a form of addressing God’s presence in prayer, His name is more than a title; it represents His character and nature, the one who will be handling your specific request.
Names of God
Tell Him who He is to you, and who you know Him to be according to His word, saying… Lord I know you are “Jehovah” the self existing God; the one who was, who is, and who is to come. Examples of His names are: “Jehovah Raph” the God, who heals, “Jehovah Sabbaoth”, the Lord of Host, the God who fights our battle, “Elohim” Is God, “Jehovah Shammah The Lord who is present, “Jehovah Jireh” your provider, “Jehovah Nissi” your banner, the one that goes before you and make the way clear, “Jehovah Tsidkenu” the Lord of our righteousness, “Jehovah Shalom” is your peace, “Jehovah Maccaddeshem” is the God who sanctifies, “El Shaddai” is the Almighty God, the all sufficient one, “El Roi” is the God who sees you, and “El - Elyon” is the most high God. There are many other names that God is known by but He is still the only God, the difference is in the title because He changes not.
Prayer is not the only means of seeking God you can do this through Fasting, reading and studying His words. When you fast you are developing a greater intimacy with the Lord, you are receiving a fresh anointing and indwelling of the Holy Spirit while you crucify your flesh by abstaining from food. Fasting brings about more clarity in hearing God’s voice (John 10: 4-16, 27) and direction in your calling, it also brings forth a preparedness of your spirit to walk in that calling along with a sharper discernment.
Reading the word of God brings us into the knowledge of who God is, His words is life, truth, and it is addictive, you will begin to want to know more about Him, and yearning for Him. Your heart will be satisfied because His words are very personal and fulfilling to each and every one of us; it leaves us wanting more of Him.
