Got Gospel? ............. It Does a Soul Good!
We have all heard ..... Got milk ..... It does a body good. How about this one though I think it is better.
Got Gospel? .......... It does a soul good. It really does. It truly does.
The word gospel means good news and that is exactly what it is ... Good news. .... The best news really. It is God's good news. The news that we have a savior in Jesus and He came to save us and He did just that. He saved us from our sin. It was once and for all. Tetelestai. It is finished. It is accomplished. It is about Him. It is all about Him. It is not about us. We need to get out of the way.
The original New Testament gospel started very soon after Christ's death and resurrection. It is important to understand a few things first. Within five years Paul began writing and remember at first Paul was going around killing Christians, stoning them and feeding them to lions. Christ appears to him on the road to Damascus and Paul's life is forever changed. The next thing to consider is the fact that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all wrote very similar accounts of their lives with Jesus yet they wrote them separately from each other. They were written at different times and at different places sometimes halfway around the world from each other. More than likely there was no collaboration whatsoever. They only differ in terms of syntax and semantics. The events themselves are almost if not identical. The atheists would say it is a conspiracy and the similarities somehow discredit the Bible. You cannot buy into the naysayers. Faith is not supposed to be easy. The scriptures, the codices, the Hebrew Bible and many ancient documents, artifacts and scrolls have survived through history to instill upon us who and how exactly God wants us to be.
However, this I believe is most important of all. Each of the remaining apostles, ten of them in fact ( remember John lives a long life in order to complete the book of Revelation and Judas hangs himself after betraying Jesus ) all face early and violent demises just for testifying of Jesus and He told them this would take place. Yet not one of them will recant even to save his own life. They each were more than willing to die as each of them witnessed Christ's resurrection and ascension. They knew that an even greater life awaited them for all eternity. Jesus said so and He always tells the truth. His promises are eternal. So let us look at a few places where the gospel is spoken of in the gospel.
Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, teaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy and the ministry which I received from The Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."
1 Corinthians 15: 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand.
God bless you always.
