Great Spiritual Truths!

Updated on June 18, 2017

Illusions illustrated!

In spirituality 3-1=1

There is a mirror and an object in front of the mirror. There is ‘reflection’ of the object in the mirror. Actually, there are only two things, mirror and object. The reflected light is not to be counted. Similarly when the SELF is reflected in the heart, mind emanates. The Atma and heart are to be counted here and the reflection (mind) is psudo and not real. Hence in spiritual parlor 3-1=1. Here remove the mirror and there is no reflection. The object alone remains. In fact, the object now is only ‘subject’ in the absence of mirror. For example, the Sun shines forever. The moon is a dead satellite and the light of the Sun reflects on the glassy surface of the moon which is seen as the ‘moon light’.There is a deep philosophy behind the phenomenon. We assert that there is a Sun overhead and in the night we perceive the moon by the reflected light of the Sun. Imagine a situation, where there is no observer! In the absence of an observer, the assertion as above become an ‘invalid’ statement. The creation is valid only when there is an observer. For a person who don’t have vision in both the eyes can not perceive any thing through the eyes. For him, forms, shapes, size, color etc is not valid. But his other faculties assert that there is the external world. If there is no observer of the world, then the world becomes invalid.

Escape from the Mind!

Three philosophies!

The philosophers who practice non-dual philosophy asserts that there is only one! There is no second. Hence for their perception, everything is god and there is no such thing as the world or creation! The philosophy of ‘dualism’ asserts that there is a creaator and hence there is creation which are distinct from each other! There is no possibility of their merger at any time. It is like the parellel lines of railway track, always running together at equidistance from each other from beginning to end. In between there is a philosophy called “Qualified non-dualism” which asserts that with spiritual efforts, the individual self can merge in the supreme self. All these philosophies were in vogue in different periods of time and advocated by many founders like Adhi Sankara, Madhvachariar and Ramanujar. We can consider human life. The human being is a mixture of perishable things like the body and eternal thing like the Self or Atma! It is neither real nor unreal. It is a mixture of truth and illusion. Even during our day to day life, we undergo different states of experience like the ‘waking state’ dream state and ‘deep sleep’ state. While dreaming, we consider the dream world as real. In the waking state, we consider that state is true. In deep sleep state, the mind is quiscent and only after waking up, one asserts that he had experienced a blissful state in deep sleep. The reason is that there is no mind during the deep sleep state! There is one alone, the subject (Self). The Self is always in Bliss and hence man too enjoys a fraction of the bliss during deep sleep state. Hence, we can deduce that the mind is a great obstruction for eternal joy! The pleasures we experience during waking and dream states are like streaks of lightening which lasts for a moment. They are fickle and ephemeral. The mind is active during waking and dream states. The involvement of mind is a great hurdle in realization!

Great Truths!

Observe the Mind from a distance!

Hence, from time immemorial, wise people struggled to quell the mind. They understood through practical experience that the mind can not be pressurized into submission. The more we apply force, with greater force it will rise. The sane way to control the mind is ‘simply observe it from a distance without involving in its stratagems! Just be a witness to the thoughts that arise! We should not judge those thoughts or form opinions. Hence the witness state is the best way for the spiritual aspirant. It is feasible to stand apart from the thought process with a little practice. When you go on observing the thoughts without involvement, thoughts will slow down on its own! As long as the mother run behind the child to feed, the child will run hither and thither. The moment, the mother retraces her steps, the child become panicky and run after the mother crying! This is how we have to deal with the mind! Do not follow the thoughts. Turn back from the thoughts and in course of time, there will be slowing down of the thought process! A strange kind of peace and joy will start developing in our conscious once we ignore and remain indifferent to the thoughts of themind! Every human being in this world desire for peace and joy. Only, they are not aware of the correct path to peace! Once some devotee asked Sathya Saibaba, “I want Peace’! Saibaba told him, ‘remove the I’I and want”! Then peace will remain with you! Here, the “I “ represents the Ego and want represents desires. Once we become ego less and rid of desires, peace will be ours. Neither wealth, nor property can confer peace on anyone! Only in desire less state, one can enjoy Peace and Joy!
