Hasheesh, Ciggarette and Why I'm Against It

Updated on July 6, 2017

Assalamu Alaikum. Wr. Wb.

A friend asks me, what do you think about Marijuana? The other asked me, why you against Cigarettes so much. Dear friends, I give you my answer.

Hasheesh of all type is haraam, weather is Marijuana or any other type, and so is the Cigarettes.

The Messenger of Allah forbade all kind of intoxicants and relaxants. Hasheesh and Cigarettes in particular are haraam because they are intoxicates and relaxes. The only reasons why the fours Imams did not speak of them because it was not known at that time, rather it only appeared at the end of six century AH and the beginning of the seventh century where the Tatar state emerged.

Consuming Intoxicant is Haraaam not regardless in which they are consumed; little or much, it only forbids because of the great harm that they caused to the mind, soul, family and society.

Teenage 12 to 17 who smoke marijuana weekly are three times more likely than non user to have thoughts about committing suicide. Marijuana use can precede symptoms of depression, for teens twice than normal, and for adults quadrupled risks of major depressions. The symptoms are social withdrawal, anxiety, depression, attention problems and thought of suicide. It also increases the risk of schizophrenia and developing psychotic disorders because it causes chemical changes to the brain.

Cigarettes are proven to be worse than marijuana and physically addictive. All can caused lungs problems, fertility and cancers, not only for yourself, but also put everyone around you in greater risk. I can keep going on and on and on, my dear friends, but if it isn't touch you enough, think about this.

Why people start smoking Ciggarette or consumming Hasheesh in many kind of way?

Usually the answers are similar,

"I need it to concentrate",

"I need it to give me focus", or

"I need it to reach my spiritual side".

Remedy. It is all about, isn't it?

In Saheeh Muslim (3670) it says that asked the Prophet about Alcohol and He forbade him or told him not to make it.

"But I make it as a remedy."

He said, "It is not remedy, it is a disease!"

For stress and anxiety, you may rest assured that the remedy for them is not to be found in smoking Cigarettes or consumming Hasheesh. Allah has not put the remedy of this ummah in that which He has forbidden to it.

Every time I'm about to write something, I need to make sure that I already have proper sources for anything I told you, because many proof will better than only one. When these problems came to me, I did the same thing. But what I found definitely hurt me.

I give you here, some overview:

Islam like smoking Marijuana; both bring a suicidal tendencies, Marijuana in USA and Europe; and Islam, in Palestina, where the young children sent themselves in front line of wars by the dreams of jeehad. (how low this person to compared those matters).

Marijuana and Islam; he said in his Blog "I love Islam, but I can't stop having Mari J" and answer from his friend is, "Come to Christian, where Mari J and Alcohol allow."

By Using Marijuana, Israel Ready to Fighting Hiszbullah; Israel Goverment has risen a campaign against Hizbullah which telling his people that Marijuana have been used by Hizbullah to flooding Israel with poison.

I do not know if those that written up there are the truth or not, but by having Hasheesh and all, it seem like we are agree that we really the community of Poisons. I'm sorry if it sound harsh to you. But please, just open your heart and listen.

Why hurting yourself and others around you, with something poisoning, my dear friends? Don't you understand the words of God telling us all:

"Don't you hurt others among you, .... and don't hurt yourself! Because Allah hate the people who hurt themselves."

Come, to the place where you can find your remedy.

Come my dear Friends, to God's love, in your prayer, in your awareness of Him, In everything He gave you as His bless.

God is stay in the presents of everyone of us, in ourself and in the nature around us.

If you ever fell weak and weary, take wudhu and Pray. Or if it little hard to do, just close your eyes and call Him with all your heart.

"Ya Allah..."

"La eela ha elalaulaaah..."

The Prophet Himself teached Sayyidinaa' Ali raa,

"Who read Suratul Ikhlaash eleventh times after dawn prayer, can't be seduce by Satan to attempt sins in that day."

I did proof it, and God know how much I regrets days that passed by without me doing that!

Ikhlaash is your remedy.

Thank you. I hope Allah bless you and give you power to quit immediately.

Cigarette already become big problem at these days because we live in the community where everything that Allah forbid become the best and the most desiring products today, Masya Allah! I hope, there is a way to stop this from going on. We need strong, health and aware ummah to protect our community, ruling the world and presenting Islam to the world in the way it is, the truth. Cigarette and Hasheesh only make us weak and forget about our real goal in this world, which is to become khalifah in the earth,to live for Allah to the fullest, for better life in here after, insya Allah.

So brother, keep your fighting spirit! You can do that!

Luvly written Freya, i appreciate ur enthusiasm to represent Islam and its teaching, Subhaan Allah !! Yes, as its harmful, in Islam smoking is meant to be haraam, but at the time of revelation, and S.A.W.S, there nobody knew about smoking and so it wasnt inducted at that time but, laterly as it was Prophets word and God's word that avoid which is impure and unwholesome. Further words from a source: "In view of the harm caused by tobacco, growing, trading in and smoking of tobacco are judged to be haram (forbidden). The Prophet, peace be upon him, is reported to have said, 'Do not harm yourselves or others.' Furthermore, tobacco is unwholesome, and God says in the Qur'an that the Prophet, peace be upon him, 'enjoins upon them that which is good and pure, and forbids them that which is unwholesome'" (Permanent Committee of Academic Research and Fatwa, Saudi Arabia).

Thank you Buraq, and yes, it clearly said if we know how to read t. But sadly, it is not easy to make people understand. I have friends who still drown in using those two and really hard to be brought in discussion about this subject. few among them really pious people and have deep determination as Muslim, but sadly they still couldn't able to accepting the fact that Hasheesh and Cigarette are haram. I'm really feel sad about that. :(

Hi Freya. I disagree and I know for fact that cannabis is medicine. The world I live in is ruled by people who send people to war. Cannabis is excellent for PTSD. It is a relaxant. Whatever can be read about children committing suicide in the front lines can be attributed to being a child and led astray. I do not wish to argue. I do feel the alcohol is very dangerous. It has a record of terrible violence and deaths. Alcohol renders one unconscious. But thanks for your hub. It's good to read a difference of opinion and perspective.

Hello Freya. I am enjoying learning more about your faith and I respect your insight and depth of knowledge in your faith and look forward to learning more. However, I agree with Micky Dee on the use of cannabis for medicinal reasons and casual recreation use. I have smoked cannabis off and on most of my life over a span of 40 years. It has not affected my health, careers or mind. I am in good health and have stayed active most of my life. But maybe it can affect some people differently, but many of my friends and associates who smoke cannabis agree, it's another herb and has medicinal qualities. We need to stop spending the tax payers dollars to arrest otherwise innocent people for smoking and spend more time putting away real criminals.

Hello Micky and Saddlerider1, nice to see you here.

Yes, I heard this a lot and yes, I am agree if it is use for medicine, cannabis can be really useful. And maybe for several people Cannabis do not have any effect at all, but for others it is. For those who can handle this, Cannabis can ruin their life. And for those who don't have any problem, if you live in the country like Indonesia and Malaysia it is also can ruin your life, not by affecting your health, but simply by put you on risk being caught and end up in jail. I lost several of my friend in this way. And about stop spending tax money to arrest Cannabis smokers; I must say, I don't think it will be happen. They will keep arrest people who used cannabis because many seen this like I do, dangerous.

My point is, there always another way to find peace than relied ourselves on substance. If we can live without it, why we should live with it? If you can't live without it, it means you already addicted. Nothing good about addiction, except like me, I'm addicted to poem. LOL

Thank you, Micky and Saddlerider1. I respected your point of view and I hope you will always save, Insha Allah. :)

I don't like cannabis, because it can make me paranoid, but I don't object to others smoking it.[warning to teenagers - don't smoke it till your about 23. Your brains are being re-wired during adolescence and it can mess with that]

I'm with you on addiction sucks!

Hey there Freya. I'm surprised I had a pro vote behind mine. Recently in Pennsylvania a man was arrested for being drunk as he tried to resuscitate a dead possum. Now- sedatives will not be taken off the market. It will not happen. One county in North Carolina has low crime. But- they also have the worst record for prescription drugs. We certainly need doctors. But- doctors and pharmaceutical companies are the worst drug pushes that are. My mother used to take diet pills decades ago- prescribed by doctors. Cannabis IS NOT as strong as diet pills or alcohol. I've never seen anyone try to resuscitate a dead possum or anything like that on cannabis. People murder and kill with autos on alcohol. I'm saying- you will not remove alcohol. It will not be done. Cannabis is safer. Now- all addictions are bad. Children should not have anything like alcohol or cannabis or any drugs. Of all drugs I've seen cannabis is the safest. Let's get rid of war and most all suffering first. hen let's do without a sedative. If a country goes to war, if there is post traumatic stress from something else- cannabis can help. Now- let's get rid of war. By the way some of the most intelligent men and women I have ever known have smoked this. If a bong is used- your lungs are safer. In some states paraphernalia is as punishable as the cannabis. This is insane. It's very much like carrying an empty gun and being charged with murder. Most of all - let's do extensive research. Let's have the punishment fit the crime. But here is another twist- the American justice system is very flawed. More money equals lighter sentences. We pay a lawyer for an "appeal for some fairness". People with money often go to rehab. People without money go to jail. If folks do a "search" for "falsely imprisoned" just in the US- that "search" will never end. Thanks Freya. By the way- I'm not "smoking" and it's been very long since I have. Cannabis is not addicting. Coffee is worse. Thank you Freya Dear!

Well, I agree to most of your thought about how Alchohol and Drugs (not just psychotropica but all drugs which used not for the necessities as medical treatment) are more dangerous than Hasheesh. Alcohol, also drugs is Haram too in Islamic law. The reason why I picked Hasheesh and Cigarette as theme in this hub because the law about it not clearly written in Al Qur'an. So many Muslim still using it, thinking that it is fine, which it is not. Along with Alchohol, drugs & cigarette, Hasheesh is haram, no matter how low it's effect on the body of the user. But like I did said, if it is for medical treatment, it will be good to use as long as it is a necessity. This is how Islamic Law is, no matter how big or how low the effect, if it is forbidden, it still forbidden. Strict, right?

Well, about how Law reacted on those who used Cannabis, they should have fundamental reason on this; which I believe already based on researchs and statistics, before it is added as part of the law.

Micky, people in your country still very lucky. Here, in Indonesia and Malaysia, they give death sentences to cannabis dealer and put the user in jail for several years, while in your country, mostly the user will only get fine. Fair or not, useful or not, it is how the law already made, and in my opinion, it is better to not standing in opposite side with the law, except if the law itself violating God's law.

But I understand your concern. The world today is crazy place indeed, I know. And yes, I know how bad "falsely imprisoned" already happened, and not just in US, but in entire world. Can we change it or not, we do not know yet, but unless, by writing our concern to be read by others, maybe somehow will starting a chain of reaction and at the end, will bring good, Insha Allah, if it is Allah will to be happen.

I'm glad you are not smoking. Stay save, Micky. ^_^ Thank you.

Sa'ge, thank you for reading this.

Yes, King Micky and I somehow have similar idea about how this world should rule, even when we have different faith. I might little more strict than Micky in several things but somehow he become great example for me about existence of tolerance and humanity inside human being, without forget about morality and compassionate heart.

King Micky is great guy, and you are too, Sa'ge. :) but me; I still have so many things to learn to be able to reach your place today. Still soooo far to go!

Hate to spoil all the mutual love but...

Ayatollah Khomeini said hashish was halal - check his little green book of sayings.

Also, try to concentrate on your arguments and polish them a little better. Cigarettes are, in no meaningful sense, physically addictive.

That's the two things I've noted on a casual read.

Smattom: Thank you for your information. Just because Khomeini said it is halal, doesn't mean it is. I am not type of person who believe other people said without further knowledge. Thank you for your comment.
