How Much Is Your Soul Worth?

Mark 8: 35-36 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul?

I had so many excuses why I couldn't accept Jesus in my life.

  • My friends would laugh
  • I wouldn't have any friends
  • I couldn't have any fun
  • I'd have to give up sex
  • I couldn't change
  • Jesus didn't want me

I could not have been more wrong on all counts. I had to realize who my friends were, and what they expected of me. I also had to realize what did I really expect of myself. Who was I, and who did I want to be? What would I really be giving up?

There is a story in the Bible, Luke 14:16, about a man who was giving a dinner party. He planned it well, spent a lot of money on wonderful food. He decorated, and supplied the finest wines. Then he invited all his friends. One by one they turned him down. They all had excuses of why they couldn't attend. He was hurt and angry. The price he paid to have them was much, so he told his servants to go out into the community and bring in everyone they saw to fill his table. They returned with the lost and needy of the community, the hurt, hungry, and homeless. They all are invited to a GREAT banquet, given by non other than Jesus Christ, the Only begotten Son of God.

All through the world His servants, disciples, learners, friends are going to the streets, hospitals, jails, and Hub pages inviting people like you and I to come to Christ, to be a part of His forever banquet, His forever family. No matter who we are, what we've done, Jesus wants us. There is always room at His table.

Most of the time we see Jesus in the streets, on the mountains, on the roadways talking to regular people with ordinary problems. We see Him talking to the prostitute saying, "Go, and sin no more. Your accusers have disappeared, so I don't accuse you either." We see Him talking to the lepers telling them, "Go wash and be healed," touching them with love and His own hands as others would not even come close to them. Jesus even went into the churches of His time, and healed the sick and hurting.

Some of us have previously been invited to this Soul Food Banquet. We were on the "A" list that didn't have time or didn't feel like it was necessary to make time. We didn't need what He had to offer; forgiveness of sins, eternal life. When He said, "Come, let Me be the Bread of Life, let me supply you with spiritual water so you will never thirst again" our answer was, "I don't need anything from You."

As you read this today life may be ripping you to shreds, tossing you into a whirlwind of sinking water, and your soul may be calling out HELP! There may be one who is losing their humanity living in the "fast lane." Someone may be losing their compassion living in the dog eat dog world of "Getting mine any way I can, while I can." I know today there may be one who has tried drinking, drugging, sleeping around, tried everything they can not to hurt but can NEVER get rid of the pain sin causes, can NEVER be rid of the pain it has caused your family, can NEVER be rid of the emptiness.

Jesus has invited all of us to life, abundant life, joy unspeakable, and a peace the surpasses understanding - even when we are in the middle of a storm. Jesus is the only answer this life has for the turmoil around us. Romans 6:23 says, The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal/forever life. IT'S ABOUT THE COST OF YOUR SOUL. Is your life so great right now that you would sell your soul into damnation? Jesus gave His life for us, so our sins would be forgiven and we would have eternal life. The lie that we are too messed up, is just that - a lie. When we ask forgiveness, repent (turn away from our sin) it is not held over our head. Jesus forgives us, makes us clean, whole, and a new creation to live and allow others to see the change He has made in our lives.

The wages of sin is death, and Satan is waiting to collect. The battle Satan wages is for your soul to go into eternal hell with him.

We are not like cats with nine lives - we have only one. Give your life to Jesus He's waiting for you. As He died on the cross, sacrificing His life for us, shedding His blood that we would be spotless and forgiven, buried and arising on the third day He lives to give us victory. Oh, what price. How much is your soul worth?

Interesting stuff that I hope inspires those who have not accepted Jesus into their lives.
