Higher States of Awareness

Updated on February 1, 2015

Step Out

Many have now discovered easy ways to step out of the everyday thought realm and explore other dimensions of the mind. Meditation is perhaps one the most popular ways of reaching various states of consciousness. Some people have found visualization to be useful as well. Others use mantras from various religious traditions. Almost any mantra will elevate a person's consciousness if they will persist. There are literally millions of mantras available from all over the world. Over the years I have explored many chants and mantras just to see what results could be attained. For example by repeating the Hindu mantra Rama, I have experienced extraordinary blissful states, an incredible detachment from worldly issues and total contentment. In using the name Jesus Christ, I have been able to solve problems, discover deeper levels of peace, heal myself and believe it or not, do what appeared to be impossible. I have seen miracles using the Nichiren Buddhist chant, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. I have also explored Tibetan mantras such as Om Mani Padme Hum and Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum. Each one brought a unique experience in the spiritual realms.

There are many ways to go beyond. Contemplation on a Buddha statue can easily elevate one's consciousness. This is not idol worship, but simply a way to still the thoughts in the mind. In a very short time, a deep silence will develop in a person. There are many popular religious symbols that can be used. Some have found mandalas helpful or the Om symbol. Even nature can be contemplated like the sky, the moon, trees, flowers or the ocean. As you tune in you find yourself expanding. There are also various breathing techniques that can be practiced with great results. Affirmations can be applied to inhaling or exhaling that can change previous conditioning. Hypnosis or self hypnosis can bring wonderful results as well.

There are many products that can put people in trance states very quickly today. There are light and sound machines available that allow you to go to any level you choose. The lights in the glasses have a strobing affect while the binaural beats lull the mind into deeper states. I have found shamanistic drumming cds that are highly effective in achieving altered states. There is a series of recordings by Robert Monroe called Hemi-Sync that can produce extraordinary results as well. There is a company called Tools for Wellness that sells all kinds of products for transcending the normal mundane world. It is definitely worth checking out if you want to go beyond.

Have Fun

These are just some of the ways to explore consciousness. My guess would be there are infinite ways, including Saints, Gods, Mythology, Astral Travel, Tantra, Yoga, The Silva Method, Subliminals, Devotion, Candle Work, Prayer, Color Therapy, Crystal Gazing, Sleep Programming, Psychotronics, Card Meditations, Lucid Dreaming, Huna, Yantra, Third Eye, Tai Chi, Kabbalah, TM, Zen, Tao, Guided Meditations and the list goes on and on. There is never any reason to be bored or stuck in the everyday world. It is simply a matter of choice. The main thing is to know what you want to do. Then choose the best method to get you there. If you don't like a particular method, you can always drop it and try something else. The most important thing is your enjoyment.
