Want to lead a more selfless life? Thinking of others more keeps your mind off your own troubles and studies show that it is healing!

What Is A Servants Heart?

A Servants Heart is selfless, kind and gentle. A Servants Heart will follow The Will of God, and not seek after its own interests. A Servants Heart will call for The Boss when the job seems to be going wrong. A Servants Heart is humble and meek. A Servants Heart will love with The Love of God. A Servants Heart will follow the Ways of Jesus Christ. A Servants Heart is brave and courageous. A Servants Heart is soft and teachable. A Servants Heart will follow after Gods Heart and seek His direction. A Servants Heart will raise Jesus Christ up, instead of ourselves. A Servants Heart knows He is our only Banner of Love and Protection.A Servants Heart will protect, lead and guide to safety. A Servants Heart will give, not expecting return. A Servants Heart finds understanding of others when you listen with ears of Love. A Servants Heart easily forgives, and helps to carry anothers burden. A Servants Heart will examine themselves with the Word of God, in ALL truth. A Servants Heart will surrender, submit, and commit. A Servants Heart is faithful and loyal. A Servants Heart will follow The True Master through any task without fully understanding why. A Servants Heart doesn't run over others to be in first place. A Servants Heart will pick them up, carry them through, and show some grace.

Servant or Tyrant?

But Jesus called the disciples together and said," You know that in this world kings are tyrants, and officials flaunt their authority over the people beneath them. But among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must become your slave. For even I, The Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give My life as a ransom for many.

New Living Translation (Matthew 20: 25-28)

This Scripture gives comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ is not a tyrant or a dictator. He loves us very much and wants us to choose to love Him just by following His Ways. He wanted us to understand this. Who would want to do a job for someone knowing they wouldn't do anything near the task they are asking of us. He showed us how to do things. Then ask us to them. That is why as servants we learn the task before supervising. Jesus Christ is truly fair, wise and just.

How to have a Servants Heart: A Servants Heart is a living and loving service

And so, Dear Brothers and Sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let your body be a holy and living sacrifice- the kind He will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask?

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.

New Living Translation (Romans 12:1-2)

This scripture is telling us to commit our bodies to serving Jesus Christ. A living sacrifice means we sacrifice our own ways of behaving, thinking, and reacting. You do that by living holy. Holy means to be set a part from this world and the worlds ways. and following The Ways of Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Matthew 22:37 - Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

1 Samuel 12:24 - Only fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; for consider how great are the things He has done for you.

A Servants Heart will commit the body, to following The Ways of Jesus Christ.

A Servants Heart IS Marked By Meekness

As God's messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you.

New Living Translation (Romans 12:3)

Having a Servants Heart will require total humbleness. Humble means low instead of lofty. A Servants Heart is
marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit. A Servants Heart is not arrogant or prideful.

The usual definition of meekness in the Bible is "strength under control."

The "world" defines strong people as those who are assertive, confidently aggressive or self-assured, aggressive, dogmatic, take charge, proud, self-sufficient, self-reliant, and independent.

A meek person is the opposite of these things, therefore, many people associate meekness with weakness. A meek person is willing to be submissive, obedient, which means able to follow instruction, is humble and gentle, relies on God and is dependent on Him to provide strength.

Which of these is REALLY the weaker? If you think it is A Servants Heart marked by meekness, try following these attributes for a while, and you will see it can be HARD! It is much more difficult to humble yourself and exalt, rely, trust, adhere to, and be dependent only upon God, Who is Love, than to do everything in our own strength. Jesus Christ IS our example of A Servants Heart, walking through this world. Walk in His Word, His Ways and receive A Servants Heart.

What is the character of a Servants Heart?

What is a Servants Heart as The Body of Christ?

We should also understand that we are ALL students. Equal in the classroom of The Holy Spirit. The provider of all His revelation, insight, and understanding. All learning from Our Teacher, Our Rabbi, Jesus Christ.

We should All run together as a Body does in a relay race. The foot cannot cross the finish line without the armpit, the eye, the brain and The Servants Heart.

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.

God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

New Living Translation (Romans 12:4-8)

An Opportunity To Serve With Love

Characters of A Servants Heart

Character Keys To Receiving A Servants Heart

Don't just pretend that you love others. Really love them.

Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good.

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Never be lazy in your work for Him, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.

Be glad for all God is planning for you.

Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful.

When God's children are in need, be the one to help them out.

And get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night.

If people persecute you because you are a Christian, don't curse them; pray that God will bless them.

When others are happy, be happy with them. If they are sad, share their sorrow.

Live in harmony with each other.

Don't try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people.

And don't think you know it all!

Never pay back evil for evil to anyone.

Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.

Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.

New Living Translation (Romans 12:9-16)

Are you afraid that people may take advantage of A Servants Heart? This verse gives us confidence and boldness to commit and submit, in taking The Path of Jesus Christ:

Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, "I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it," says the Lord. Instead, do what the Scriptures say: "If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink, and they will be ashamed of what they have done to you."Don't let evil get the best of you, but conquer evil by doing good.

New Living Translation (Romans 12:17-21)

Notice everything Romans 12 says to us is opposite of what the world, or our very own instincts tell us to do. To be able to do these things, living out The Word, is where true bravery and courage come. Through doing ALL our service as unto Jesus Christ, we receive A Servants Heart and behaviors.

Team Wiseman - these are good thoughts. I think the goal of having a servants' heart has to be in focus at all times. It is so easy to be diverted, and it's also easy to make the lesser choice at times without stopping to realize it. Nice hub!

This was a beautifully written Hub. It has become my prayer for many years to have a servant's heart. However, after reading, I still see places that I need to improve. Thank you for obeying the Lord and writing what He placed on your heart. Thanks for having "a servant's heart."

A great thought provoking hub and a good reminder that Christ himself was able to be a servant. A lot to think about and apply to our own lives. On a lighter note I couldn't help but laugh at the picture of Harry Reid when noting arrogance. He and Mr O could walk hand in hand on that attribute :-)
