How do you overcome your fears?

Updated on February 4, 2011

I guess there's no perfect formula or solution to overcome fear. Fear will always be there, only sometimes,it comes in different dimensions. Some fears are shallow, brought about by mere imagination or lack of self-confidence but at times, fears can be really traumatic, overwhelming and stressful.

Some people say to conquer fear, you must change your thought pattern. Think of the positive or the brighter side of things than focus on what seems to be giving you the chills up your spine.

Some say its just mind over matter. In a way, it is similar to just having a paradigm shift. Throwing off completely, all the thoughts that cripple or at worst, paralize you.

To some, negating fear requires confidence to be able to convince yourself that you can achieve what you fear you will fail in.

Personally, I think for one to face his or her own fear squarely would mean mustering strength and courage to hurdle whatever it is that haunts you.

This building up of one's courage, one that is sturdy and robust, cannot be achieved overnight. It has to go through a process, then tested and put into application.

One can start by reading the Word of God, everyday. In the Bible, everything is being addressed regardless of the depth of one's fear. It teaches us how to be confident knowing who and what we are in the Body of Christ - we are heirs to His Kingdom!

No amount of fear can thrive in the Presence of God. Small, big fears will vanish when placed in the Hands of the One who made us.

(There is no fear in love for perfect LOVE casts out fear!)

Suggested readings when fear strikes:

Philippians 4:13 - I can DO all things through Christ who strengthens me

Psalm 91, 112, 115, Proverbs 1, 3 ( the whole chapter)

      Hey JBatt,

Thanks for your request. It did, in a way, help me remember what to do when confronted with fears.

I hope I contributed even a bit to your query.

Cellebrate, thanks for answering my request. I like your insights and the religious influence you have shared. It is true that whatever higher power we believe in can make us stronger by lifting us up.
