What is a Life Path Number?

In numerology, your life path number is one of the most important numbers. The other two factors include your birth number and name number.

Life Path Number is also known as destiny number, fortune number and soul number.

Your life path number tells what you are and what type of life journey you will have. It tells your positive and negative characteristics, the outline of the opportunities and challenges in your life.

It is seen that Life Path Number puts great impact on the Birth Number of a person. It can improve the qualities of the birth number or can reduce them. Moreover, life path number has greater qualities than birth number. For example, Life Path Number 1 has greater qualities than birth number 1.

Here is your guide to calculate your life path number.

How to Calculate Your Life Path Number?

The life path number is a single digit total of all the numbers in your full date of birth. The easiest method of calculating your life path number is to add all the digits in the full date of the birth and then reduce the total to a single digit number. For example, suppose your full date of birth is 10th December 1985. The calculation is as following:

10.12.1985 =1+0+1+2+1+9+8+5= 27

Now you have to add the digits in 27 to reduce them in a single digit number. So 27=2+7=9

Thus 9 is your Life Path Number.

Advanced Method of Calculating Life Path Number

However, although adding all the numbers one by one and getting a single digit number is the easiest method of calculating your Life Path Number, this method is not recommended. The simple reason is that your full date of birth has three groups, that are Date of Birth, Number of Month and the Year, and when you separately convert each group in a single digit number, you can read many other characteristics of that person which is not possible when you use the easy method. See following example:

A person has his Date of birth December 21th December 1983. In numbers, it is 21.12.1983. Now let us convert each group in single digit number separately.

21.12.1983 = (2+1) + (1+2) + (1+9+8+3) = 3+ 3+21=3+ 3+(2+1=3) =3+3+3=9

So 9 is the Life Path Number of that person.

Here we see that the number 3 is repeated in all the three groups. Such repeating of a specific number or numbers has its own meaning. If you calculate the Life Path Number by using the easy method, obviously you will miss such advanced reading.

Do not miss to see if there are Master Numbers

In numerology, 11, 22 and 33 are considered as master numbers. Master numbers have their own distinct characteristics. They are known as spiritual numbers. While calculating a life path number by using simple method, you can miss such master numbers. See this example:

A person has his date of birth March 29th 1984. In numbers it is written as: 29.3.1984. Now if you use simple method for calculating the life path number, it is 2+9+3+1+9+8+4=36=3+6=9. If you use advanced method of calculations, it is: (2+9) + (3) + (1+9+8+4) = (11) + (3) + (22) = 36. Here you get 2 master numbers in the chart, 11 and 22. If you use simple method for calculations, you miss these master numbers in the reading.

I hope you got the right method of calculating the life path number and also you got why this right method you should use. I would like to write more about the life path number in my next articles on numerology.

Thank you for reading.

    I'm glad you included the second method because I'd forgotten about it. Also when I used it, I found a simple math error I made in my first calculation. I hope you eventially do a hub about what each number means because I've misplaced my book and don't want to have to buy another. Voted up and awesome!
