How a Christian should share Jesus Christ

Updated on February 12, 2018

Why evangelize

There are 2 main reasons why all Christians need to embrace evangelism. The first is Jesus told his disciples, which we all are if we are followers of Jesus, to go out and and make disciples of everyone else. The second reason is we don't want anyone to spend eternity in hell because they didn't understand why they need Jesus, and what they need to do to avoid going to hell.

The great commission, Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:16-20 (GOD’S WORD Translation ) Jesus Gives Instructions to the Disciples 16 The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.17 When they saw him, they bowed down in worship, though some had doubts. 18 When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 20Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. “And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”

Disciples for Jesus

Many Christians are intimidated by the thought of talking to strangers about something they know will be offensive to some. Political correctness from the world view says we shouldn't offend anyone. If someone is offended by Jesus, they can walk away from you, they don't have to listen, but we have to try to tell them.

Your fear and apprehension for what ever reason, is the direct influence of Satan, he doesn't want you to make more disciples, he wants you to just sit on the sidelines and hope someone else will do it. Many in the early church and since then have died because of spreading the teachings of Jesus. Many people in parts of the world today are still being murdered for spreading the gospel.

One on one or with a small group is the easiest type of evangelism for most people, and it's where you should start your evangelism to get a feel for how to succeed and feel comfortable doing it. The first step is to make a connection with the person you want to share with. It can be as simple as, how are you doing today. If you get a positive response you can continue the conversation with another comment to establish a connection that you are friendly and non threatening. After you build that connection hand them a gospel tract and ask if they have gotten one of these? Tell them that there is a gospel tract on the back and ask them to read it.

The Ten Commandments

Do you know they are still as important as the ever were?

The Ten Commandments are a big part of your life, even if you don’t think they are. Most of the laws of man are based on the laws handed down from God that are the Ten Commandments. Without the law there is no sin, there is no breaking the law. We have to have something to base our laws on. All modern societies in the world, Christian or not, base most of their laws on these laws from God.

Why are more people moving away from God and the laws of God?

The problem is that society has started to change them because they don’t like the laws that interfere with the things they like to do. Society is getting to the point where anything anyone wants to do is becoming ok. Many people break them and don't even think they are breaking them. It’s like speeding in your car. Most people that speed are generally law abiding people that just don’t think speeding is breaking the law, but it is against the law.

Do you know what the Ten Commandments are?

”You shall have no other God before me. (God the creator)

”You shall not make any graven images to worship

”You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain

”Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy

”Honor your Father and Mother

”You shall not murder

”You shall not commit adultery

”You shall not steal

”You shall not bear false witness (lie)

" You shall not covet your neighbors wife or any of his things

Planting seeds

If that's all you have time for, or all you feel comfortable with at the time, you have planted the seed. Planting seeds is the first step. Using good gospel tracts is the best way to plant seeds. For great gospel tracts, visit Living Waters website. The best tracts are the million dollar bills, people readily take them because they are cool looking.

I was recently with 5 others at a big Halloween parade in our area, we handed out over 1300 money gospel tracts, and we didn't see a single one on the ground after the people left. They will take them home and that tract will be where the gospel message may never get any other way.

If they have questions, or if you have more time to talk to them, you can move to the next step. The next step is to get them to understand, just as the tract does, that they need Jesus, no matter how great they feel their life is now. To do this you must take them through the law, The Ten Commandments. This step is critical, you need to establish a need for Jesus. Why would anyone think they need Jesus if they think everything in their life is great right now? Use their conscience to show them they are sinners like the rest of us and not good enough to get into heaven on their own.

The majority of people think they are good, and they think they are better than lots of other people, and God will see them as good and allow them into heaven. All of the teachings in the Bible show good works are not the way to heaven, good works are a by-product of being filled with the Holy Spirit. You must believe in Jesus, repent and turn from your sins to go to heaven, it's a simple concept but it's not easy to turn away from sin, we can't do it on our own, we need the Holy Spirit to change us in a way that we want to resist sin, and you will feel bad when you sin.

Go to needgod.com to see a simple way to go through the steps of sharing. If you learn the steps on this website, you can at the very least get anyone who will talk to you and listen, thinking you may be right, they may not be good enough on their own.

Jesus is the key, eternal life with him is why.

Ray Comfort Evangelizing

Go through the law first

One of the places where you can get in trouble is if you are promising love and peace and a better life on earth. There is no biblical basis for this. Peace and love and a better life on earth are often a by-product of following Jesus, but are certainly not promised for following Jesus. Christians have as much suffering and pain on earth as non Christians, They have disease, pain, financial problems etc. The difference is after you die or if Jesus returns before you die, you get to spend eternity in paradise with God, not in pain and torments of hell, forever.

Once you get them to the point where they see that they are sinners and will not be going to heaven if they do not repent and turn from their sins, then you tell them the great news that Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for all of our sins and that we don't have to go to hell even though we all sin. Tell them how when they make that decision, they will have a changed heart and mind and they won't have to try to not sin on their own, they will have God's help because they can't do it on their own.

You can certainly pray with them if you want, or if they want you to, but to ask forgiveness and make the decision, let them pray in their own words to God. There is no special way they need to pray. Tell them to pray from their heart and ask for forgiveness, and repent of their sins, and the strength to turn from sin.

To get more information to help you, visit the Living Waters website. My recommendation for the best book on the subject to read is Ray Comforts “School of biblical evangelism”. It's for sale on the Living Waters site. If you learn what's in this book, you can talk to anyone about why they need Jesus.

Open air preaching is another very effective way to evangelize, it's not for everyone. To find out more about open air preaching, Living Waters is the best place for that as well. Ray Comfort has been open air preaching for over 20 years and he has great tips and information about what to do if you want to open air preach. He also has many videos on youtube of open air preaching that you can learn from.

This is the greatest news there is. No one is good enough to get to heaven on their own, Jesus came to earth as a man so he could die on the cross to pay the price for our sins so that everyone who chooses Jesus and repents can go to heaven and have eternal life in heaven with God.

That is true, but you could save a lot more people from hell by being proactive and telling them, and planting seeds.

      Very insightful.

I prefer to live the Christian lifestyle. When people see it they become curious and ask me why I am different (not greedy or swear. Alawys kind and respectful)THEN I share Jesus with them.

People are more inclines to listen after they see you walking the walk before you talk the talk.
