Humility-Knowing Who We Are

Updated on June 6, 2011

have spent most of my life looking for myself. It was not until I got my hands dirty creating a garden in my backyard that I could come up with a definition. Feeling the dirt between my fingers as I planted vegetable and herb seeds told me that I was part of the dirt (humus) that makes up Mother Earth. I am made from the soil of the earth. All that the soil contains is contained in my own body. The planet Earth came into existence as star dust and my origins are from star dust. What a humbling, but pertinent piece of information about myself and all my brothers and sisters who live on this planet earth. I am one of over a trillion living beings on the planet and this includes not only humans, but plants, rocks, rivers, oceans, springs, water creatures, cells, atoms, and the list goes on and on.

Recently, I discovered that I am not the one in control of my life. There is Someone bigger than I out there. I could say it is also a bigger Source of my life, but I believe that this Source of my life is more personal than that. My God is a personal God. I am totally helpless without God because God is the One who has gifted me with life and all that life contains are gifts for me to use and using them as a means of giving back to the earth and to God is what I am called to do. I am put on this earth to bear fruit just as the seeds planted in the earth are called to produce. All living beings are partners with God, the Creator.
