I Believe and Why
I believe in Angels
I believe in Angels. You are going to say this is crazy but I saw my guardian angel when I was a wee tike. I rolled over in bed and came awake looking into the face of the most beautiful lady with blonde hair. I was on the very edge of the bed and the vision made me move back to safety. I know you will say this was a dream but I'm convinced it happened.
The same thing happened to my mother when she was in her reclining years and she went to downtown Pittsburgh. She was crossing a street when the blare of a horn scared her. It was a commuter bus that was turning into where she was crossing. A lady said, "Here," grabbed her and pulled her to the safety of the curb. When my mother looked around to thank her, she was gone.
These are a couple of dramatic experiences that I'm sure can be explained away easily. I prefer to believe that it was the intervention of angels.
I believe that God hears and answers our prayers
Being raised Catholic, I was brought up learning the conventional prayers at a very early age. The Our Father was taught to us as the perfect prayer because it was taught to us by Jesus. While this is the perfect prayer, I also believe that the prayer that was mentioned in the bible is also a perfect prayer. "Whatever you ask in my Son's name will be granted."
Suppose you asked for something in the name of "Jesus" and it didn't happen. Well, there is an explanation for that. God only gives us what is good for us. The pefect prayer in my estimation is the one that you ask him saying, "if it be your will." You may have received what you asked for but not exactly as you had asked for it. Perhaps you wanted a particular job and you were not selected for it but you got a different job. The one you didn't get was not the one God had planned for you. I'm living proof of that. I lost a very good job and prayed for one like it. I'm working in a completely different platform and this is the best job I have ever had and fits my skills and abilities to a tee.
God answered my prayer, but he said, "No!" I'm a firm believer in live today for today because it is just the way God planned it for you. Each day has it's own ups and downs but because of it you grow into a better person.
The Serenity of Believing
I also believe that there is a deep serenity that comes from belief. I live my day by the Serenity Prayer.
"God grant me the courage to change what I can change, the serenity to accept what I can't and the wisdom to know the difference."
God has granted me a life-time of prayers for what was his will for me to have. When my youngest son was found dead, I believed he would give my baby back to me if I asked but I also knew that his will had made me accept what had happened. I had the wisdom to know the difference and live in the knowledge that my son was now in heaven waiting for me to join him when it become my time.
I'm at a cross roads right now with a life threatening situation in my family and I'm begging for prayers that the outcome is not only in our favor but that this time the situation can be reversed.
Being the person I am, I will accept whatever God has planned and what is HIS WILL.
