Miracles Happen

Who Am I?
Who Am I? | Source

When God Shows Up

I had an uplifting conversation with a friend recently. This friend started out as a business associate but over time we connected closely on a spiritual plane.

Kathy and I were sharing stories about the times when God worked a miracle in our lives. You know, those times when there is NO explanation for something that happened? None other, that is, than that God shows up and provides a miracle.

After our talk I began to go back over my life and recall more of the many miracles that have happened in my life. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and wonder ... Who am I, that He should care for me?

As I re-visited these miracles I saw how God used angels at times, answered prayer so specifically that I KNEW it was Him. I recalled times God stepped into situations and miraculously turned the events upside down - blowing me away. We serve a mighty God. As we bend the knee to His holiness; He opens our eyes to see Him in all His Glory.

God is my Abba (Daddy) Father. Jesus His son made a way for us to know Him personally. He paid the price for sin which gave us access to Him.

God is the believer's protector and He is actively involved in our lives. Miracles are happening all the time.

I have listed some of the ways that God reveals His involvement in the believer's life. God's word is His love letter to us. These verses are just a glimpse into God's heart for His children.

  • Hebrews 13:5 "I will never leave you or forsake you." Jesus
  • Proverbs 18:24 "He (Jesus) is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."
  • Psalm 32:8 The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you."
  • Psalm 91:9-11 "If you make the Most High your dwelling — even the Lord, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
  • Psalm 91:14,15 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him."

WHO AM I? Lyrics

Who Am I by Casting Crowns expresses how overwhelmed I am and the absolute wonder I feel when I consider that God loves me.

Salvation - Miracle

As a child, I grew up in an insecure and unstable home. My father had an explosive temper and we never knew what would trigger it. It was a very scarey world for me and my siblings. I longed for deliverance.

At age 15 I had seen enough of life to wish I hadn't been born. I did not want to grow up and live the life my parent's were living. I felt no hope, no joy and no purpose for my life.

One day, though I was lost in a fog of despair, my thoughts turned to questions about the existence of God. I reasoned that If there was a God who made the world and everything in it then He must have the answers to life.

I wanted to know if He existed but I didn't know how to find Him. My thinking process soon transformed into a heart wrenching cry to know if He was real and if he cared about me. A desperate yearning welled up deep within my soul.

Next thing I knew I was laying face down on the floor. I was crying out as I prayed, "God, if you are real, I need you! If you created me then you must want to know me too. I feel abandoned and alone. My heart longs to know you but I don't know how to find you .... Will you please reveal yourself to me?"

About a year later God answered my prayer and addressed that all consuming desire to know Him. He used my best friends Dad, Mr. Haworth, to show me how I could know God personally and intimately.

I found love acceptance and peace when I was in the Haworths home. There was some sort of bond between the parents and kids.

One night my friend Debbie asked me to spend the night at her house. I was in the midst of a battle at home and I didn't want to go anywhere. Debbie persisted in urging me to go to her house. She would not take no for an answer so I eventually caved and reluctantly accepted her invitation.

That night, I watched with longing as her Dad took the younger kids to bed piggy back style, Afterwards he made his way to his favorite chair. He then turned to me - I read a world of kindness in his eyes. He then told me that he had something very important to tell me. I was taken back as I thought "Who me?" At the same time I felt a warm sense of being valued wash over me. "Who am I that he should care for me?" was my inner response.

As I sat speechless, Dad Haworth opened God's word and spoke words of truth and life. He explained to me that God really did exist and He was the creator of the whole universe. My heart filled with excitement and Joy ... "I knew it!"

He continued to share how God uniquely created each person. He told me that he had created me on purpose for a purpose (tears welled in my eyes and the deepest longings to know God squeezed at my heart).

He went on to explain that the Lord God is a Holy God who cannot tolerate sin in His heaven ... "Oh, I knew all about the ugliness of sin - though I didn't call it sin." He then opened up the Bible to John 3:16 and explained that because God so loved me, He gave His only son to die for my sins (in my place) so that I could live eternally with Him.

That night I could hardly wait to ask Jesus to wash my sins away. I accepted God's gift - the gift of His son Jesus who willingly gave up His life to pay the price for my sin - death on that cruel cross.

I opened my heart eagerly to the one who had given His all to redeem me. I prayed asking God to forgive me for my sins. He did. I invited Him to be the Lord of my life. As I prayed I felt an immediate lifting in my Spirit and I experienced what scripture describes as .... "Old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new."

My whole world and direction in life changed that night. The despair I had lived with was gone and I knew I would never again walk alone. I belonged to God - I had been adopted as a daughter into His family.

My desperate prayer to know God was answered; my soul came to rest and I was fully at peace. I finally knew that the creator God loved me, pursued me and had a plan for my life here on Earth.

From a life filled with fear, despair and purposelessness ... God came to my Rescue!

Hi Sparklea, I sure would have enjoyed b your student in the course you taught .. what a great opportunity. As you say there are surely coincidences that happen all the time .. BUT there are some things that, when they happen, can only be explained as miracles.

Yes my sweet friend ... God never lets us down, not EVER!

Thanks for your visit and encouraging words,

God Bless and keep you Close to His heart,

internpete, I love the story you refer to in the Bible. King Nebakanezer was irate because Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow and worship the statue of himself. The King was so very angry that he heated the furnace 7 times hotter.

The guards who threw them in were killed by the heat instantly. Then, just as you said, God showed up right in the midst of the fiery furnace. Not one hair was burned. God worked a miracle. I thank Him so much for those miracles He has personally touched my life with.

We serve a compassionate and awesome God do we not? In the same book of the Bible we learn about the 3 young men's friend Daniel who is well known for his courage and devotion to God ... he would NOT bend the knee to worship any idol but the one and only true God. We named our son after Daniel of the Bible. :0)

Thanks for your visit and your comments about one of the great miracles of the Bible.

      God Bless YOU!

What an incredible testimony. It is amazing when everything seems to be going wrong, and there seems to be no good ending, but then God shows up and works a miracle in front of us. Reminds me of these three guys in the Bible who were thrown into a burning furnace for not bowing down to a false god. But they didn't burn up, and through them, God changed the heart of the most powerful ruler at that time. Great hub!

rajan, Miracles are such a gift from the Father above. The first miracle I received was His gift of salvation ... Jesus. It's hard to comprehend a love so sacrificial for a creation that had turned their backs on Him. Oh how He loves us.

      Thanks for your kind comments,

It was a pleasure going through your hub. Indeed i'm one of those who have experienced God's hand in alleviating my worries when I've faced them. The only requirement is that one should love Him and believe in Him.

Your stories are beautiful and confirm my belief that He indeed cares for us.

      Thanks for sharing.

Lovely Pollyanna, so we are sisters ... with much in common too. God must have plans for your life or He would have taken you into his presence the day you were in the accident. Amazing Love brought you back.

I was happy to find your comment here, I just finished up part two. I love to hear about how God works in peoples lives and hear about the miracles He performs.

Thank you for sharing one of your miracles - I am blessed!

A very beautiful story. I found Jesus early in life too, knowing He is the only way to heaven and He has always been there for me with many miracles too. One was saving my life at age 16 when I was in a bad car accident and went into a coma and not expected to make it through the night. Glad to read someone like you. I will be sure to check back. God's blessings.

Kathy, I did not know you pray for my family too. I am truly touched to know this.

You talked about being authentic and how Judas was a pretender. It's interesting and amazing to me that you used the word 'pretender' because I wrote a hub about Hypocrisy and Pretenders. It's so hard to comprehend how Judas saw the living God in flesh and watched all of his miracles yet turned him in to the money changers.

Glorifying God IS the way to defeat sin and lead a victorious life.

      Thanks Friend!

I am honored to share my heart on your page as you are so very honest with your own heart and your writings. I too pray for your family and the desires of your heart. I just this past weekend taught a sunday School Class on The Great Pretender ~ Judas. His role was so important to the word of God. He had qualities that drew him to Christ and yet he was pretending to follow and give his life to the plan of the heavenly Father. it is so important as Christians for us to stand together and admit our trials and imperfections. At the same time we must praise God for our miracles and live to glorify HIM. To know that we are sinners and we will battle a impurities brought on by sin is part of the battle. To not be pretenders but true life Christians choosing to glorify God is the way we will win the war.

Kathy, I have no doubt that God brought us together. You have been a light in the midst of the many storms of your life. Your pure love for God and total trust in Jesus is a wonder to behold. Your sweet children and your husband are blessed indeed to have you as their mother and wife.

I am amazed once again to see another similar battle we have both waged. The battle of bitterness against an abusive parent/grandparent. Oh, I could tell you stories. I am working on part two of miracle stories and I will include my own battle under the title of forgiveness miracles.

I was blessed by hearing how God has worked in your husbands life ... pain can actually result in strength, which I see is the result in your man. How sweet to have a husband that leads.

Thank you for leaving such a heart felt and revealing of the heart note here on my page.

You are a beautiful woman .. inside and out. I am blessed to call you friend and to pray for you and your family.

      Love and Hugs!

      Mekenzie ~

Oh me oh my it is so very true that God allows miracles. I believe my connection with you here is one of those miracles. I have thought about you so very often in the past two weeks or so as I have dealt with some issues in and around my home. I am so very blessed but I too have many stories that culminate in a love of God and passion for His word that is unceasing. As I read your beautiful Hub I am in awe once again how amazingly our God works in our lives. Your story of childhood is so similar to that of my dear husband. I am so blessed by his hunger and desire to grow confidently in the word of God. Due to his lack of Christian parenting he struggled with his role of spiritual leader. With my health being the challenge it has been at times I have so desperately needed him to be confident in his own walk and take the lead in my times of weakness. I had a moment of desperation two weeks ago. I needed to let go of some bitterness toward his parents who are now feeble and living in our home all be it separate from our own by way of a hallway laundry room and addition at the back of the house. I was needing to pray with such surrender and trust. I have recently been anointed at our church in a private service and although my health continues to be tedious and cautiously stable it continues to be my faith that is my stronghold in that area. (with weekly intervention I am holding my own ,Praise God.) I felt in order for my family to truly heal it would be important to share with our children where the bitterness lies in relation to their dad's parents whom try to denounce our faith in God. So I drove to a nearby park and like you at time my eyes welled with tears and I called out to God, "please help me, take me to the place in your word that will strengthen me in the discussion with my dear husband and that will heal our family. I closed my eyes and randomly opened my bible and landed in psalms 50-55. God is so good this was the catalyst to the discussion with my dear spouse and eventually our two children. We shared that while we are not loving of the grandparents that are living with us, we are in a place where we accept their blatant denial of God an the word. We explained this sad issue to the kids and filled them in on the childhood there father endured in a non-Christian home. We also shared that although it was evil and unjust they chose favorites in their children and grandchildren and set up many points of sadness and lack of trust and self esteem issues among the innocents. Our daughter now 18 and son 14 where now ready to understand the pain that can be disbursed over time by those not walking with the Lord. Our daughter had been hurt time and time again as she was a girl and not as important in the minds of the grand parents. There has been blatant favoritism and sad feeling and even deep rooted anger that was storing in our baby girls heart. We had a wonderful weekend as a family sharing the stories that were hard to share. I praise God they have a grandmother and had a grand father(since passed) that showed them love and light. We explained we are not to be disrespectful and we must love the grandparents here , but we are to give them up to God. We boldly rebuked any Satan holds on our house and family and we have chosen to bravely stand for our Christian commitment to one another as an immediate family. My decision to address this issue finally as a couple and eventually family was because it was picking away the armor we had around the four of us Mother Father and children. Our daughter is beautiful like our son. They both live and follow God and plan to for life. To witness a grandparent that manipulates and pits one against another is so very sad to watch and to then do damage control is difficult. This week past they even claimed to not know it was her graduation. At the same time just a day after her party they said was your brother too bothered by the days events? did he feel to left out? This hurt deeply of course as they had not even shared a card. Praise God though she was supported by her other grand mother and aunts and uncles and many Church family friends. She is going to go to a Christian University and love her family and yet rebuke any evil that comes form said family. we will continue to pray for them and yet release them to God's plan. We prayed as a family to build our trust and faith in our walks together and individually. I shared how the challenges life brings are the very things that polish us for His works. I pray for God to take any memories of inadequacy from her heart and any lack of nurturance from non-believers and to rally in her passion a love of God. I pray for future teachings that will guide my children in the way and the truth and the light. When God brings a family through many fires they finally realize He has all the water to wash it away and put it out for His greater Good. My husband is leading in our home , he is nurturing and praying with me for his children and our walk. I am so blessed by this beautiful man who wants to rewrite the pages of his past and continue chapters of love and miracles in Christ. So thankful for the honesty he shared with his children so they could move far away from a past that will not catch them. So thank you for this beautiful hub, it has hit the nail on the head and all the way through. The nails of the cross made Him bleed but by His blood we were saved. Praise God . On fathers day this year and always I celebrate a man who picked up his cross to follow Jesus. I also celebrate my God and heavenly Father who brought me into fellowship with a man who weathered many a storm. He stand beside me in our fight against the tearing down of our physical bodies while building our spiritual armor and spirit. God Bless truly wonderful writers like you. Now and always. your Sister in Christ Kathy
