I Hear Dead People: A True Story

Updated on January 25, 2012

Curse or Blessing?

Premonitions, voices, and dreams. You name it - I've experienced it. Receiving communications from the other side is both a blessing and a curse. In the bible, Daniel was given to prophesying, foretelling, and the interpretation of dreams. It says that sometimes Daniel was asleep and other times awake. Such has been my experience. This particular time, I was awake and painting a family portrait for a coworker of my son.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

One night, a few weeks before Christmas, years and years ago, I was in my art room painting a commissioned piece working from an old photograph. It was a family portrait my son's co-worker was going to give to a family member for Christmas. When I began painting the baby in the picture - the hair stood up on the back of my neck. Familiar with these types of occurrences, I was not frightened. I found myself being drawn back into the past. The baby in the portrait was laying in her crib. Was it Halloween? There were decorations about. The baby couldn't breathe. It was suffocating underneath the weight of a pillow. I was then brought back to the present by my cat clawing my back. I yelled at the cat - looked at the photo - and left the room.

Get This Painting Out of My House

The next day I went back into the art room - vowing to only work on the portrait during daylight hours. A few days later I finished. I called my son and asked him to pick it up right away. I didn't want it or the photograph in my house a minute longer! When my son picked it up he asked me what was the hurry?! I told him the story. I felt so bad for the little baby that was murdered. He said "WHAT?!! are WRONG on this one!" He proceeded to tell me the baby was his co-worker. How could she be dead? I told him no...that wasn't possible. He said something insulting and left.

The next day he was carrying the portrait into work when another coworker stopped him and asked to see it. The coworker pointed to the baby and said "'s sad what happened to that baby...." My son said "I thought that was (so and so) our co-worker?" He said no...the other girl in the portrait was her - the baby in the portrait died of crib death on Halloween night."

My son couldn't believe it. He called and told me the story - repeatedly apologizing. Of course I had to throw in a few "I told you so's". I suggested maybe he talk to someone about my vision....and he opted not to. How sad for the little baby. To know that someone literally got away with murder. You see why it can be a blessing or a curse to have such gifts? It is wonderful when you can set someone else's mind at ease - but a curse when you have to live with a secret - know one else would believe.

Do you believe there are some people who can hear voices from beyond the grave?

I heard dead family person's movements (like if she lived but no voice just steps, opening door at usual times for her etc.) for a half year or a year (don't remember anymore how long time it was but it was quite long). I have checked place/s every time (later on as in the begining I thought it could be other family memeber) but there was noone, I didn't think of it in the beginning either. I know that one other person heard something aswell but not as much as me. I don't know any more, I mean I start to doubt myself. Maybe I am/was psyhic sick (as I missed that person a lot and I still do) so I imagined those things. Just that I have never heard any other such noises or had any other symptoms that would tell that I am not ok. Then the other person heard thigs aswell and confirmed it when I asked some time later. Am I very emotional so I don't know but what if it really was that person?

I lived in a building built in the early 1800's by my husband's family. Apartment upstairs, store downstairs. A woman appeared only to the ones related by blood but my husband and I could hear her singing to our baby girl. My sons woke a few times to find her covering them up. She must have recognized them as family and was taking care of them. The place had a very warm feeling. We were welcome. Some had been run off by her in the past. She did not like them.

I am glad you enjoyed my story! It bothers me to know that someone got away with murder - but I am happy "she" was able to tell at least someone. I've not had visions regarding this event - but there have been plenty other odd events in my life!!

Thank you for reading my Hub : ) I will have to check your Graveyard of Lost Souls out. Have you tried talking with your lady in lavender? If you do - be careful - there are deceiver spirits out there.

I absolutely believe in spirits. I have witnessed a ghost sighting a few years back. I wrote about it in "Graveyard of Lost Souls" it's here in my hubs. I also presently have a female ghost in my home. She passes me leaving a strong scent of lavender perfume, I have not seen her, yet sense her presence from time to time. Yes many people like yourself are given the vision to see beyond the thin curtain a vale if you will. Much of it can be scary and some very pleasant. Yes very well told indeed.

      Wow Artsy American,

This is very compelling. I think I would be terrified if I ever had such an experience. I have had weird experiences but nothing like this. I wouldn't know if it was a blessing or a curse. Thanks for sharing your story. I am going to sleep with the light on tonight.. LOL. Well told!
