Remembering God's Holy Sabbath

Updated on March 24, 2013

"Six days we have to work and play, the seventh is for Jesus". God always remember us. He gave us six days to do our work and to play, let us also give Him this seventh day.

As a Christian, I believe in keeping the Sabbath, which falls on Saturday for us since I am an Adventist. This is the time we gather together to praise the Lord for keeping us safe and healthy.

This is also the time we keep for ourselves after a hectic schedule at work or busy exams at school. I believed God created this day for us to rest after a long day’s work, giving us the time we call our own. As the song goes, “Six days we have to work and play, the Seventh is for Jesus. We rest upon this Holy Day...”

Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.

Today, when I looked into the mirror, I can see a different girl I’ve used to know. How I missed the young girl of my childhood life – innocently playing and tagging along with her parents off to church. She’s always present on church events and social nights even have a part to play on a Sabbath school.

She believed that God loves people who go to church and pray and even have faith that miracles do happen when you believe. People around her believed that she can achieve great success in life.

One fateful day, she just changed. She loses interest in all the things she used to do and love. She won’t go to church anymore; she just keeps thinking “if I go to church, will she come back? No.”

She was deeply hurt because God took Gran away from her without final goodbyes. Well, she knew she was given the chance; she was given the signs that in no time, Gran was going to heaven.

But she believed in her heart that she would never leave. Hurt was so terrible that she hates to open the Bible to read stories.

Well, I did go back to church after I recovered from these changes in my life. But not so often, I skip Sabbaths because by sitting there and not finding granny beside me was a total pain. I admit that I am going into a different direction.

But I figured out that even if I drowned myself into hopelessness and pain, nothing will change.

I am renewing my faith and going back to church and with all the prayers. I think God always has the best reason for everything; we only have to trust Him.

And I think everybody needs a Sabbath in their life. It helps us renew our strength and faith. It doesn’t matter anyway what day is your Sabbath day.

We all have many religions and it’s not a mistake to follow the chosen day. Anyway, we all have one purpose – to praise the Lord. We all believed in one God and that’s the most important.

Here’s the lyric of one of my favourite opening song from our church. Just want to share it to others: "We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known; The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing; Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own."

The song reminds me that people from around the world gathered in this holy day to sing praises to the Lord once more.

Unknown Spy: I almost joined the 7th Day Adventist Church back in the early 70's. I studied Ellen G. White, and I have several of their books. A minister would visit me every week. I attended a few services. It never happened because my first husband and I ended up moving away. I have such a great respect for the Adventists. Voted up, beautiful and interesting. You write as if you are talking directly to the reader. THANK YOU for sharing your love of God. I remember one thing an Adventist minister said in the church years ago, "Without Him, you are lost." SO TRUE. Utter dependence on God every single minute is the key. Blessings, Sparklea :)

Wow! Yes so true, "Without Him, you are lost." I read a few books of Ellen White, which I find it hard to understand (i was just a kid, like 7 yrs old when I first learned to compile and read books like that of Ellen White). I love to compile all the inspirational magazines of our church when I was young, That's where I found the story of a young girl who asked God for a sign in finding the right man for her, (which I literally 'copied' what she did. I also wrote a hub about that one, The Destiny Ring). When I was in college, our guidance counselor asked me if I want to join the Catholic church (my school is a catholic school). I said, I am happy being an Adventist. I love being one. Yes! that's what our church is doing too, a minister would visit and encourage people to attend our church. It sounds fun too. God bless to all. Thank you again Sparklea.

It's nice to know that you are back to observing the Sabbath... I think the last time I went to Church was last year. I don't like how our Church in the city delivers the mass, it's too quick, a little bit of sermon and sad worship songs, but I remain faithful to the religion. Of course I will still go to Church, but I would only go if it's a church in the province. In the province, the sermons are more sensible and the songs are happy, you can’t help but sing your heart out loud. And I also want a quiet place to worship God and it is through meditation that I feel His presence. I just want a more peaceful place and I just can't find it here. :(

      Voted up and interesting. :)

Thanks Gladz.. By the way, where is your province here in Phils? For me, remaining faithful and keeping your faith to God is much more important than saying you went to church everyday or every sunday/saturday. Being a christian for me is going beyond church songs. It is helping our neighbors and doing good things to others. I understand that churches in the province are more inviting :) Been there... keep in touch.

Wish I had another name for you besides "unknown." You're the first identifiable Adventist I have met on HubPages. Maybe, you guessed that I'm also Adventist. Glad to meet you, and really happy that you're going back to church. Sure, we need the Sabbath and the fellowship of other worshipers. Be encouraged! You can meet your Gran again.

Thank you so much J. I think one time on our life, we backslide but what matters most is how we stnad up again and keep going until we found the right path for us.
