I am not the best
I am not the best
I am not the best! I am not the best mother, wife, speaker or writer. I do not know everything and there is nothing that I do with complete perfection. And I no longer require myself to be the best.
Who is your battle with?
For years I have struggled and beaten myself up with this expectation. I have listened to and believed the lie that I needed to be the best or I was not truly valuable. If there was someone out there who could do it better than me, then why bother? Why would God want me? Why would God need me? I let this lie, this deception hold me back and send me on a detour around the plan and purpose God has for my life. But now I have been reminded of the Truth. That it is through Christ that I can do it, not through me, or my “bestness”. God has a plan and purpose for my life, and for you as well.
The TRUTH is...
There will always be lies, distractions and disappointments in life that will attempt to keep you off your path. My friends, bury the truth in your heart! You are an important part of God’s plan. We all are. God does have a purpose for your life – many in fact. God needs you to be YOUR best, not THE best. Why? “Because someone is counting on you to be the person God created you to be.”

We all need somebody
Now, with truth revealed in my life, I will strive to do my best, not to be THE best. I will do the best job I can, to be the best me that God created, but not to one up someone else. I will give 100% (well, at least 95%) to achieving the goals, visions and dreams in my heart. But some days, I will fail. Some days I will feel overwhelmed, underappreciated and not valuable. Some days, even though I have realized and identified the lies that have yielded my dreams and chipped away at my confidence, some day I will listen to them again. On those days I will need the wonderful people that God has put in my life. On those days I will need you.
The Word tells us “Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together...” Hebrews 10:25. That instruction is SO important. Thinking that it is not is another lie that Satan has tricked people into believing. It is important for our own growth as Christians, it is important to be surrounded with like minded people, but it is most important for the purpose of connectivity. IT is beyond valuable to have other Christians in your life who will remind you of the Truth about yourself. It is vital to surround yourself with those who will lift you up and support your dreams. It is the very heart of God that we connect with one another and build our simple lit match, into a burning inferno of faith and purpose.
So this New Year, make a commitment (greater than a resolution) to connect with a church that is like minded with you. Connect with a group of people there who are making an impact on the world and who will bring out the gold in you. That is your key to making this year the best year ever. That is the key to opening and to stepping through the door. That is how to make this year your best year ever.
