(Matthew 12:34b) "For out of the Abundance of the Heart the Mouth Speaks"

Speak kind and let grace season your words for goodness sake

Watch Your Words!

If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all. These are words my mother used to tell me growing up. This is a truth that I am now adamant, and serious about as well. I can identify with the Apostle Paul’s proclamation of making the transition from child to man; that when he was a child, he thought, understood and spoke as a child; but when he became a man, that he put away childish things.

There had to have been an incident for my mother to tell me this, but, whatever that scenario was this reproof stayed with me, and I have come to see its practical and spiritual applicability through scripture as well.

Reproof helps to change the way we perceive, and think about issues. It shifts the thoughts into positions of natural and divine order. Now I can declare as did the Apostle, when I was a child, I understood, spoke, and exhibited childish thinking which only truth could rectify. When I became a woman and as I now walk in the adulthood and maturity it indoctrinates, I am admonished as well, to put away childish behavior.

If I don’t have anything good to say, I should silence myself. Why wouldn’t I have anything good to say? Learned behavior of speaking things that are consistent with good, is a lifetime lesson on the path of transformation. Negative thoughts, lead to negative words and actions. A negative, pessimistic, and cynical approach to everything is a problematic way of viewing things. Thinking positive requires the same amount of energy. Yet, there is a swerve in the thought process that derails negativity.

Why do we speak negative things about ourselves and others? Is there ever a good reason? The only reason that I can think about concerning this inquiry is, negative thinking and actions are formed under the auspices of sin, sin is negativity. Some thoughts are linked to sin. In today’s technical world of events, and occurrences, we have learned about links and hyperlinks. When you click onto a link it will navigate you to a site or somewhere you anticipated. The link of negativity shouldn’t be a familiar site, or an anticipated one. However, negative thoughts stem from somewhere, and are relative to other thoughts and breaking the cycles, and patterns of negative thinking would entail great effort and practice.

There is power in your words!
There is power in your words!

"Life or death" The Choice is Yours

The purpose and intent to labor this pivotal point, is that negative thinking doesn’t only affect or hurt your mind, but it is capable of forming words that can be spoken negatively towards others. Maturity sets precedence, and articulates that negativity is both unproductive, and destructive, and is capable of producing death. The thing about spoken words is that you can never erase them, or recall them, but you can be sorrowful and repent of speaking them.

We get what we say, and we create with our words. Acts will follow our words; this is mainly why we must be careful of what we think, and what we say. Our minds are being renewed, and as these new features manifest, and transpire, we should be changing our vocabulary too. Words pave the way to success and failure, death and life are in the power of the tongue. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" (Proverbs 18:21 KJV).

This is interesting, two things are mentioned in this verse yet, it suggests that only one of the two will be chosen, and that those who love it, be death or life will eat the fruit thereof. If we choose death we elect to speak and declare negative words and curses, and if we choose life we are choosing to speak words of life, and blessings. We can’t have it both ways. Either we will make a decision to speak words that will pave a life full of blessings or cursings. in James 3, the Apostle makes a crucial point in verse 10, Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be, he admonishes.

The Apostle James seems perplexed and baffled, as he goes on to say, these things ought not to be, he was saying, this is not right! In other words, this should not be happening. There were blessings of God in one breath, and cursing of man in another. He infers that blessings should be done with equity, and that the only thing that should come out of our mouths are blessings, or speaking kindly and well of God and man.

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boastest great things. Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue amongst our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:5-10 KJV).

This brings to mind the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:14b stating that, we should bless and curse not. These scriptures are taking root within my spirit life, and changing the fruit to be in harmony with God. Change the root and you change the fruit! I’ve personally come to the conclusion that I would rather bless with my mouth, this is what I desire to do, and not to defile the blessing I mean for myself or others to have by speaking negative words, and anything against the blessing I intend for them, and to declare good into manifestation. We must watch the words we speak over others, and ourselves. Look for the light of good. Good is truly light and light is truly good.

Watch, because we don’t want to speak against the blood wrought lives of our brothers, and sisters. Pray, because only God can give them the help they need, and give us the spirit of intercession. Jesus told his disciples to watch, and pray that they enter not into temptation. The temptation in this case would be to speak negatively, resist it by praying.

A lot of times when the situation presents itself to speak negatively, we have an option, click your prayer tab. I know that preferably, if I could influence anyone as it pertains to me, I would rather have the prayers for my life, rather than the negative talk, because negative talk creates darkness, Jesus came to destroy the works of darkness, not to magnify it. If you are not part of the solution, and on the side of Christ to destroy darkness, then you are part of the problem when you side with the darkness, by speaking negative words which cannot produce life, but death. You may be slipping into darkness.

How Abundant is Your Heart?

In (James 3), we are admonished to beware of the tongue, which is what Proverbs 18:21, is saying as well when it tells us that death, and life are in the power of the tongue. It is also diagnosing conditions to beware of. In this account in the Epistle of James, he warns, exhorts, counsels and admonishes, that in many things, we can offend with our words, and he goes on to explain that, if any man is capable of not offending with his words, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

This is practical and possible, when we exercise care in choosing what we say, and how we say it. The thought of what to say should precede what we speak. Most orators, or speakers generally take time to rehearse their words, they write down pivotal points, or they just give it thought before they speak it. They have a working idea of what they are going to communicate. Let there be light and revelation through this message, and correction, if it is not yet in operation.

This is not a joking matter. Either you mean to pronounce good things upon all those you mean to bless, imparting only good words over them, for, towards and into the lives you purpose and intend to bless, and really mean it with a pure heart, or you may just have ill-will, if you speak negative after you have spoken good. It is like making a good declaration over someone, and as soon as they don’t measure up, you speak negative about them. You change a blessing into a curse, that eradicates and dissolves the blessing you spoke concerning them.

This is a defining moment, in remembering just what my mother words scream out to me, if you don’t have anything good, nice or kind to say, hold your piece, and keep the peace for speaking good with. Don’t be a blessing giver that gives blessings then takes them back, in other words, don’t give good words, then take them back with negative words. Good words are on the assignment that you have sent them forth to accomplish, negative words will only cancel and rescind the good, if you speak them.

The life that good produces, or could produce is forfeited when the negative words are spoken. Speaking good is a transaction. We all must balance our checkbooks, to ensure that we have adequate credits which offset our debits, so that we are not overdrawn. Look at good as a credit that always increases the balance in your account, and a debit as the negative that always reduces and decreases the balance. We need those adequate credit transactions or we will operate in an overdraft status. Continuity of good has to be real and actual.

Let your words be parallel with the good you want to commission, or don’t speak any good you can’t endorse for the long haul. Beware of small talk, gossiping and back-biting. These things will overdraw your account, because you won't have the good in your heart, which is one of your accounts, to cover your transactions. Watch what you speak against other spirit filled believers, respect the Holy Ghost operating through them, even if it is at a minimum and not maximum capacity. Learn to respect the Holy Ghost and what and how He does it through others. Watch out for the malignity of speaking evil that it doesn't promote blasphemy.

"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good: or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned" (Matthew 12:31-37 KJV).

In this account in Matthew 12, all the people were amazed at Jesus' healing of the man that was possessed with a devil, blind and dumb, and their focus was on the good He had done. Everyone except of course the Pharisees, and they accused Him of casting out the devils but by Beelzebub the prince or ruler of the devils. Jesus knew their thoughts and said unto them;" every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand". Here lies the incentive we need not to speak against each other, in doing so we are causing division.

Jesus said, from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, the abundant life is that He came to give us, and good things should spring forth from our mouths, declaring the greatness of God in every way. We can do what God says we can, and we are a divine creation of God every part of us. We can speak good things in abundance. How can an abundant heart speak evil or negative? We should endeavor to say what we mean and mean what we say. If I speak well of anyone, I should mean what I say and allow the good to materialize concerning them. We have a good treasury within us.

Good is on a long journey and has been spoken into manifestation by God. Whatever can prohibit the good we speak from materializing shouldn’t ever be our words once we have assigned them to accomplish that good from an abundant heart. What if God canceled all good towards us? Where would we be? Yes, an abundant heart is one full of goodness and kindness. Speak kindly of others or hold your piece, until you can think it through effectively and positively.

Pay close attention to what you are thinking about because, the words to support those thoughts will follow, be it life or death. It is likened to programming a computer with the wrong software and all the files are all messed up inside, and filled with junk. Program your life with the seeds of positive word producing thoughts within to change all thinking patterns. This is the beginning of restoration of our health holistically and on every level.

God’s plans for us are good not evil, we must develop a vocabulary that speaks just that, and don’t believe lies. We should get up each morning expecting a change; God is looking for our faith to add His goodness and kindness to it. We are always one step closer today to our miracle. When we quit expecting the worst and start expecting the best we will prosper and make it part of our declarations. We must get a bigger vision for our lives and get rid of negative mindsets designed to keep us down and put others down. We must avoid the grasshopper mentality.

Twelve spies were sent to spy out the land, all had a negative report, except for Joshua and Caleb, they had a different spirit, they spoke blessings. God is bigger than negative limited thinking, which can and will stop us from obtaining fortitude and going into the promised life of abundance that Jesus came to give us. The grasshopper mentality focuses on too many giants in the land and all the reasons why it can’t be done and is a negative report. Whose report will you believe? We shall believe the report of the Lord! In this examination regarding this subject we have many sound biblical counselors; we have King Solomon, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Apostles James and Paul who are still speaking today loud and clear and I choose to believe their reports. In the multitude of counselors there is safety. My mother was right and her judgment sound and her words assisted me to come into alignment and shift the climates words produce.

Beloved, choose good words and choose life and give your tongue power to change things!

Hi "Ericdierker" as pertaining to children, they must be taught and at times words are harsh to bring them into the proper alignment. A soft answer turns away wrath. However there is a drastic and distinct difference between a child and an adult. The words we speak to children should be monitored appropriately. We speak the good into manifestation and help them to understand that good is better, and it has more rewards than bad.

We as adults are learning too. The point that is being inculcated in this hub is what the Apostle James says very eloquently...But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren these things ought not so to be. He acknowledges that the tongue is capable of bad things, the point is we shouldn't bless God and turn around and curse man. Speak good of God and man. This is when if we can't find anything good to say about man, we should not say anything at all.

The lesson I am learning is to be careful with my words. In the illustrations of see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil, all are depicted as covering that part of the body, eyes, ears and mouth. Only we as indivuduals can decide and choose to speak no evil and commence to rid our lives of and take control over a our tongues, in an attempt to tame it. We are not alone because the Holy Spirit is with us and He only speaks things which are good and holy. We need His wisdom in all things and all of the time. Praise Jesus!

Just to think about. My son just did some bad things. He is good and just learning. But I must say something harsh about the bad behavior. Maybe we can call the words good because they help to teach, but nice words will not get across the wrong done.

So sometimes I think we must say bad things.

Good morning, "thelyricwriter" and thank you for dropping in. I am thankful that you appreciate this hub. It is a topic that I want to be consciously aware of and to practically apply these principles to succeed in my own life. Words are powerful and have the ability to create, why not choose to use them wisely and create good. Grace and peace!

Beautiful well written article! Voted this up, useful, awesome, beautiful, interesting, and shared. The sooner we realize that life is what we make it, the better off we'll be. Most of us seek God in troubled times and blame him for our mistakes, sometimes we can be so selfish. Great words of wisdom.
