Confessing our sins
Question: If God knows our thoughts and actions, why do we need to confess our sins?
To confess by definition in this sense of the word means to admit to a fault or sin, particularly as a sign of repentance. True repentance can only come thru humility. Confession forces us to humble ourselves by bringing our faults and sins to light. So to answer the question, yes God does know your sins, but He still requires confession for forgiveness. Open confession is a tool to remove pride from our hearts. Pride is a subtle Yet extremely dangerous stumbling block that keeps many of us from fully surrendering ourselves to the Lord. Pride interferes with our ability to serve the Lord in many ways, for example a proud man can never fully surrender his will and become completely dependant upon the lord seeking only the will of his Heavenly Father. Secondly Pride interferes with your ability to love others as you love yourself, this becomes impossible to do if you in any way feel you are better than someone else. Pride also causes us to be unforgiving and bitter toward others by holding grudges and not letting go of our anger. In other words only a proud man has trouble saying sorry, which in essence is what you are doing by confessing your sins to God. So confession brings forth humility, causing us to see our selves as God sees us. Picture being in a room with someone who knew your innermost thoughts, desires, fears, etc. someone who knew every little detail of who you really are, every evil thought, every lustful desire. Now ask your self, could you be proud in their presence? Confession causes us to see who we really are, not who we pretend to be. But cheer up, confession also means to acknowledge God’s redeeming acts and openly acknowledge that Yeshua or “Jesus” as most of us call him is the Messiah, Lord, and Son of YHWH, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the deliverer out of Egypt, the Great I AM, the one and only God Almighty. Through doing so you can be truly washed clean of your sins.
