If We Believe, What Do We Believe?
Shalom, family and friends!! It’s a fairly cold morning this morning, at least inside where I was snuggled under the blankets for the night entire. However, when I got up to let Murphy out and hook Ester out on her run, it was not nearly as cold outside. I was pleasantly surprised. When I first laid in bed upon awakening, I thought, “Man up a tree! It is just too cold to get up, though I have to get up. No, I’m just going to lay here for a while longer until it warms up.” That thought changed when I remembered we had the dogs, so, with an unwilling spirit, I pulled my blankets back, hoisted my legs off my bed, put my slippers on, and drudged outside with the dogs in tow. And, it was warm! Well, not warm warm; but, there was no breeze and the sun was already illuminating its warmth. It’s going to be a good day! It’s always a good day! All glory to יהוה!!
What is it that we believe in?
The other day, I wrote about the definition of belief/believe, is a trust that goes beyond, a committed thought process versus an uncommitted thought process. Today, I’d like to write about what we should believe; after all, if an individual knows what it is to believe, that same individual should know what to believe. Yes?
**I’m not going to go into great detail in this writing; but, these would be some good starting points for you to get yourself into the word and learn more and more and then more about what you can and should believe.**
We must believe that the Bible- which includes the Torah, the Prophets, the Writings, and the ha-Berit ha-Chadasha (New Testament) -is inspired by יהוה. That means that יהוה breathed out His Word to man(kind) so that it could affirm His purpose. This also means, that as the Bible is inspired by יהוה, it is also יהוה’s authority.
Timotiyos Bet (2 Timothy) 3:16-17--”All Scripture is breathed out by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work.”
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 55:11--”So is My Word that goes forth from My mouth - it does not return to Me empty, but shall do what I please, and shall certainly accomplish what I sent it for.”
The trustworthy inspired authority of יהוה.
The Bible is not only the inspired authority of יהוה but also the trustworthy inspired authority of יהוה. Every word and every Word can be trusted to help us on our life journeys, from before the moment of our conception to the very day we stand for judgment and every event/moment/situation in between. In moments of good and plenty, we can trust in, יהוה and in moments of patient-trying exasperation and frustration, we can trust in, יהוה and in moments where we are tested and tried beyond what we think we can handle, we can trust in יהוה.
Yehoshua (Joshua) 1:9--”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, nor be discouraged, for יהוה your Elohim is with you wherever you go.”
Shemu’el Bet (2 Samuel) 7:28--”And now, O Master יהוה, You are Elohim, and Your words are true, and You have spoken this goodness to Your servant.”
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 1:5--”Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you, and before you came out of the womb I did set you apart - I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Tehillim (Psalms) 9:10--”And those who know Your Name trust in You, for You have not forsaken those who seek You, O יהוה.”
Tehillim (Psalms) 56:3--”In the day I am afraid, I trust in You.”
Tehillim (Psalms) 139:14--”I give thanks to You, for I am awesomely and wondrously made! Wondrous are Your works, and my being knows it well.”
The Bible is split into four sections- 1.) Torah (Teaching, commonly called the Law; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). 2.) Nevi'im (Prophets; Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi). 3.) Ketuvim Aleph (Writings; Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Ezra, Nehemiah, 1 & 2 Chronicles). 4.) Ketuvim Bet (2nd Writings, commonly known as the New Testament (ha-Berit ha-Chadashah); Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1 & 2 & 3 John, Jude, Revelation). All of these are the trustworthy inspired authority of יהוה. It is in these words and Words of יהוה that we learn how the world was made, how sin entered the world, how to make our way back to יהוה, and are given help to maintain a set-apart (holy) walk.
Bereshit (Genesis) 1:1--”In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.”
Bereshit (Genesis) 3:6--”And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, and she took of its fruit and ate. And she also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”
Bereshit (Genesis) 3:15--”And I put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel.”
We find the Ten Words (Commands or Commandments) in Shemot (Exodus) 20.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 7:14--”Therefore יהוה Himself gives you a sign: Look, the ‘almah’ conceives and gives birth to a son, and shall call His Name Immanu’el.”
Almah is defined as a very young maiden who has not yet started her menstruation cycle, or a virgin.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 1:21--”And she shall give birth to a Son, and you shall call His Name יהושﬠ (Yeshua) for He shall save His people from their sins.”
Mattityahu (Matthew) 27:46, 50--”And about the ninth hour יהושﬠ cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lemah shevaqtani?’ that is, ‘My El, My El, why have You forsaken Me?’ And יהושﬠ cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His Spirit.”
Mattityahu (Matthew) 28:6--”He is not here, for He was raised, as He said. Come, see the place where the Master lay.”
Yochanan (John) 14:6--”יהושﬠ said to him, ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” [Ani ha-derekh ve ha-emet ve ha-chayim.]
Yochanan (John) 14:16-17, 26--”And I shall ask the Father, and He shall give you another Helper, to stay with you forever - the Spirit of the Truth, whom the world is unable to receive because it does not see Him or know Him. But you know Him, for He stays with you and shall be in you. But the Helper, the Set-apart Spirit, whom the Father shall send in My Name, He shall teach you all, and remind you of all that I said to you.”
What is the bottom line?
Bottom Line - Vayyiqra (Leviticus) 11:44--”For I am יהוה your Elohim, and you shall set yourselves apart. And you shall be set-apart (holy), for I am set-apart (holy). And do not defile yourselves with any swarming creature - the one creeping on the earth."
Baruch ata, Adonai Eloheinu, Melech ha-olam, asher natan lanu et derekh ha’yeshua’ba’meshiach Yeshua, baruch hu. Amein.
Blessed are You, Adonai Eloheinu, King of the universe, Who gave to us the way of salvation through Yeshua ha-Meshiach, blessed be He. Amein.
