Imagination, Our Gift From and To the Infinite

Updated on June 19, 2013

Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.” ~Jamie Paolinetti

It was no accident when Albert Einstein, one of the brightest minds of the 20th century, stated that “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” The reason why this is so, is because knowledge is limited to what we currently know. However, when we utilize our imagination we open the doorways to the Infinite. We are no longer limited to what we have learned from school and society.

Our imagination allows us to tap into Universal Knowledge.

The great psychologist, Carl Jung, from the 20th century spoke of a Collective Consciousness. It is no accident that people come up with ideas at the same time across the globe. There have been countless inventions and discoveries made at the same time. In David Wilcock’s book “The Source Field Investigations,” he makes several references to this phenomenon (68-70, 84). As a writer of poetry and songs, I have come across words and phrases in other people’s songs that were worded similar, if not exactly, to what I wrote years earlier. Now, that you are aware of the fact that imagination is more important than knowledge. I would now like to share how it’s a gift from God.

We are told in many spiritual traditions that we were created in the image of God. This is true. We are also told that God is a Creator. This also is true.

But are you aware of the fact that we are all Creators as well?

Our every thought is creating our reality. Our emotion is what gives the thought its power. If you have been doing your “spiritual homework,” you will remember that many spiritual teachers will often tell you to guard your thoughts and emotions; for you will draw to you what you predominantly think about. Over time, negative thoughts will not only attract negative people and circumstances into your life, but they will also have a negative effect on your body.

Negative thoughts are low in vibration and will cause damage to your body over time. Certain emotions target certain organs in the body. For example, anger is harmful to the liver. This is a very important organ for detoxification. On the other hand, positive thoughts and emotions are good for the body. They also attract positive people and circumstances into our life. And with the power of our imagination, we can transcend our circumstances and bring about personal healing, as well as worldwide healing. Check out John Lennon’s words:

“Imagine all the people living life in peace.”

In hypnotherapy, the client is encouraged to use their imagination to accomplish their goals. In the film “The Secret,” Denis Waitley discussed “Visual Motor Rehearsal” in which athletes used their mind to imagine performing certain acts, such as running a race in their minds. What they discovered is that the same neurons fired in the brain whether the athletes were pretending or actually performing the act. This is living proof that our imaginations can make quantum jumps. Quantum physics is the science of possibilities in which our consciousness is the engine that is driving our reality.

“Energy flows where our attention goes.”

In the last part of this article, I would like to share some song lyrics that invite us to use our imaginations. Check out the inspiring lyrics to Jack Johnson’s song “Upside Down” that was featured in the film “Curious George”:

"Upside Down" - Jack Johnson

“Who’s to say what’s impossible
Well they forgot…

And as my mind begins to spread its wings
There’s no stopping curiosity

I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I’ll find the things they say just can’t be found
I’ll share this love I find with everyone
We’ll sing and dance to Mother Nature’s songs
I don’t want this feeling to go away”

Now, check out these powerful lyrics from the song “Pure Imagination” that was featured in the film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”:

"Pure Imagination" Sung by Gene Wilder

“Traveling in the world of my creation
What we’ll see will defy explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There is nothing to it

There is no life I know
to compare with Pure Imagination
Living there you’ll be free,
if you truly wish to be"

Now, let’s take a ride on the “Dream Weaver” train:

"Dream Weaver" - Gary Wright

“I’ve closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind

Oh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Oh, dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light

Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plain
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today’s pain”

I would now like to share “Dream Operator.” These are song lyrics by the group Talking Heads:

"Dream Operator" - Talking Heads

“Every dream has a name
And names tell your story
This song is your dream
You’re the dream operator...

And every dream tells it all
And this dream is your story
You dreamed me a heart
You’re the dream operator...

And, you, dreamed it all
And, this, is your story
Do you know who you are?
You’re the dream operator”

In closing, I would like to leave you with some song lyrics I wrote:

"Intutition" - Terry Fatland

"It’s intuition...
'Cause I’m lost in your eyes
It’s intuition...
'Cause I'm lost in your eyes”

There’s stars in your eyes
And there’s dreams in your mind
Your heart is your guide to what is true
And should you want to know
We don’t want to know
We can see the love in your eyes”

I now invite you to create the world of your dreams. You are the Dream Maker.

Peace, Love, and Light

Jackie, that is so true. We can always expand on what is created. Yes, and because we see the world through a unique set of eyes, we can use this, along with our special gifts and talents, to take something to the next level, hopefully in a manner that benefits humanity. Thank you for sharing your insights with me. :)

Great points and it keeps on growing. Even ones who are not imaginative enough to be the great inventors can add to the invention once it is made and it just keep on and on. I may go by a pattern someone imagined and produced but I can add my own touch of imagination brought on by someone elses! Interesting stuff! ^+

Those words are mine and yes you may use them. After I read your article what suddenly pop inside my head were these words: "What I imagined yesterday, I live today. What I dream today is my reality tomorrow." These are power words because they are true to all.

We exist because God imagined us.

From apes, mankind developed to this state because man imagined lots of things.

Hi Annie, you are very welcome. I know what it's like to be around cynical and unsupportive people. I also had issues of self-doubt. I would often give up on things, because I didn't believe in myself. Sometimes I wouldn't even try for fear of failing. It took me many years to transcend these limiting beliefs. When I opened my eyes and heart, I began to see God everywhere. God was always there encouraging me. Annie, know that you are a Beautiful Being of Love. Connect to this and you will be free.

Thank you for your votes. And thank you for sharing your thoughts. Blessings

Oh yes, the possibilities are endless!! I loved reading this, I love the thought that I can create through my dreams and imagination. I need to hear these words as I have been dragged down by cynicism and self doubt too often - there is a place I can create and be and live in peace and transition into what lies beyond. I have been there on several occasions, the door way is in being present and being creative - I will get there again and eventually I will stay there, those who don't believe will simply be left behind!!

Love your words, Terry, thank you for the validation. My votes and best wishes to you from Annie.

Hi Michelle, thank you for stopping by. Yes, the imagination is a beautiful gift. I find it sad, too, that children are in such a hurry to grow up. However, the children that do use their imaginations are great teachers.

I'm glad you found the hub inspirational and thought provoking. It is my desire to connect people back to their precious self. We are each a Ripple Maker and Dream Maker. Love and Light :)

Marie, thank for sharing your thoughts. It is absolutely amazing how the same areas of the brain will light up. It doesn't matter if the person is imagining or actually doing it. I wish they would have taught this in school. lol.

I'm fascinated by the Collective Consciousness. That's cool that you have experienced it too. I also have thoughts and phrases pop in my mind. Many of my articles are often inspired by these phrases that pop into my head. I am very sensitive to picking things up as well.

Thank you for voting this hub up and awesome, as well as sharing it on Twitter and Facebook. Blessings

Hi Terry! What a beautiful gift to have...imagination. When I observe the kids in our preschool, I am sometimes saddened when they become adults too soon. I guess at home they have to act like 'adults'...

This hub is truly inspirational as well as thought provoking. Perhaps it can lead us gently back to ourselves as we allow the part of us to dream big! I like that..I am a dream maker! Love and light :)

Terry, I went to kitchen got myself a hot cup of tea to sip slowly while reading your hub. :) You explained everything so clearly, including about the brain's capacity to create changes using only our imagination. This has always fascinated me. I have read stories how certain parts of the brain light up in the same areas whether a participant is imagining playing the piano or actually playing the piano. The potential of using imagination for healing is phenomenal.

And...about the collective consciousness, isn't it awesome? I have made up words that are not part of my vocabulary and before I know it, it shows up on TV or read about it. This also makes me mindful that sometimes if weird thoughts pop up in my mind or feelings suddenly appear, I discern if it's from my own mind or I am picking it up. I am quite sensitive to picking up stuff.

Voted up and awesome. Shared in Twitter and Facebook!
