In Honor of the Three New Apostles
The Three New Apostles
A Call of Three
For the first time in a hundred years
Three Apostles were sent Home
In the course of a few short months.
Their works remain well known.
For decades they served as Apostles
Of our Lord and Savior Christ
Their service of love and devotion
Ensures them eternal life.
With the vacancies of three to fill
The Prophet’s task demanding
He sought for Inspiration,
For Light, and Understanding.
And after Prayer and Fasting,
Receiving Truth and Light
The Prophet had three names to call
He knew that this was right.
So who were these three chosen men
Prepared to serve the Lord
In these last days of turmoil
To live and share His Word?
The first, Elder Ronald A. Rasband
Of the Seventy, Senior President
A man of true devotion,
His Love of God most evident.
Next Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Our Presiding Bishop was named
Who served the Saints in Asia
And there the Gospel proclaimed.
Finally Elder Dale G. Renlund
Accepted the calling with awe.
A man who worked on the hearts of men
As both surgeon and servant of God.
With deep humility these three men
Have given their lives to Our Father
To serve as Apostle of Jesus Christ
And witness of our Elder Brother.
Our prayers are with them to buoy them up
With the hope they will feel of their power
And give them the strength that’s required
To serve the world at this late hour.
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
- Mark 1: 17-18
…and I speak unto you, even as unto Paul mine apostle, for you are called even with that same calling with which he was called.
- D&C 18: 9
