The Answer is God

Updated on September 21, 2016

Jeremiah 29:11

[1] For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Questions are Natural

To have questions is to be human. The answers you come up with do not have to settle with every person whom you come in contact with. They have to reside with you, the individual. From the beginning of your introduction into a faith based belief system, many things appear to be expected of you; church, purity, respect, just to name a few. As you age within your religion questions seem to sneak upon you overnight. You begin to wonder if what you were taught is the only truth. You begin to have doubts. You seek answers but only find more questions. The more you seek out the answers to the questions the more you desire to know. The more truth you begin to see opposite of what you were told. Easter bunnies, Santa clause...if your parents could lie to you about this, could all be a lie?

Your mind races to find the answer to stop the torment of wondering. You have only been taught to know one way of doing things. The more you seek, the more you find doubt. When you speak to others, they tell you just to have faith and pray. But, you want more than just talking to yourself in a dark room when the world has gone to bed. You want to be open with your questions. You want to know outloud if you are following the correct religion. You want to read and know you are doing what is right.

Why must you believe what you have been taught?

Would do you come to feel this secure had you been taught another religion and came upon Christianity?

What if it is wrong and you would come to know another that would make your doubts disappear?

Why do so many people have doubt, if this is the correct one?

Why does the church get wealthier while members starve in some cases?

How come you feel like you are being sold something every time you attend a religious gathering?

Where do you belong if you are questioning this?

What is wrong with you for having these doubts?

Instead of allowing the answers to come to you over time, you believe you are different from the rest of the world. Everyone else seems to fit comfortably in the things they were told to be in; but you are different. You question everything. You can't seem to follow in a line just because you were told to follow that line. You have doubts that cannot be answered in the ways you need to feel the security you believe others contain. Why? How come? When? How do you? All these questions stir around in your brain without answers as you struggle for faith to bring the answers upon you. You feel lost and alone.

Truth vs. Lies, head to head match up

During this journey of the neverending rabbithole chase, you come to a point where you feel as if everything in your world has been one big lie. You reject everything having no trust that any of it is real. Maybe not at first; but slowly you come to create a world from scrap. You create theories and test them out. Things like combing your hair and how you like your steaks cooked are all on the chopping block. You don't just want to be told anything. You want to know and own your beliefs because you tested them out and figured out what is your own truth.

It is a revolt!

You want to be defined as your own person. You want to be seen as someone who has a weighted opinion on the various subjects directly involving your life. You don't want to be told you look like your parents or you are doing anything like them. You want to be independent from everyone's shadow who played a role in lying or tricking you into getting into a line. You want to be known as your own person. Someone who thinks and feels from a place of knowing and understanding...Why? Because you have questions and you are tired of not getting factual answers. You are fed up with being told something is just how it is because and elder "said so".

NO! You have questions and you want answers. This time you will reject all that you were told in order to form your own opinion and discover a world you were kept from or lied to about. The world is not dangerous, people who fear it are. The world is a great place....nothing has happened to teach you differently thus far right? It is not being blind or young, it is living. And, that is what you are demanding, right?

Is anybody listening?

Clearing the clouds

The stormy winds pounded restlessly against your soul. The angry howls from mistakes haunt your conscious mind. With each step you feel a weighing down of your feet. But, you continue forward. You are fully aware of all the careless decisions you have made to bring you into the messes you know was your present life. You fully understand your intentions were not all bad, but they were selfish. You can recall every painful word you spoke about and at another human. You can taste the victory of the evil deeds you committed as you pushed to place your needs before others. You can see all the hurt in the people's eyes who innocently got in your way.

Isn't that what everyone else does?

You knew it was all wrong. Your motivations were solely for your own benefits and motives; for the greater good of yourself. Selfishly, you have found yourself in a tornado of hurt, pain, and loneliness. Everything you wanted came before anyone else. And, now you dare to ask for someone to care about your suffering? You dare to cry out for help in a time of need for someone to save you from your selfish ways because you are overwhelmed?

The room spins wildly out of control. There is not away to tell which way is up or down in the midst of your chaos. The more you try to fix it, the more chaos you create. Enemies are coming at you from every side. You can't defend yourself from their advances because you are ill prepared. You are out of options. Everything you found comfort in prior has let you down in the face of adversity. And now, in this moment, you are finally ready to call out to something greater than yourself.

Remembering your roots

Just in the moment when you think all has failed you, you remember your once beloved relationship with Christ. You begin to feel the yearning to return back to him. But, how? Hasn't it been too long to return? Hasn't your turning away led you to a place of no return? The answers are always that you are still his beloved. Like an infant child reaching for help after a stumble, he welcomes your reach back into his arms with a fatherly smile. You are forgiven and wanted in the moment when you need him.

After your ego gets out of the way, you can return to the religion you once knew with a fresh pair of eyes. You can revisit long ago tales and recall pivotal points in the stories you never seemed to have gotten before. As your eyes are opened to the side of believing you are shown new perspectives you never noticed before. Your faith has been restored. Though it still may have specks of doubt hidden inside the new shiny coat of faith, it has more reasons to walk inside the faith than outside of it.

You are alive and loved.
It is never too late to return home.
No matter your sin, you are forgiven and wanted to be back in your father's arms.

Coming back to you

Good review of the path we often follow on our search for meaning. God is the answer!
