Looking through the eyes of Peter Part 1 of 3
We were in the boat one night preparing to go to the other side of the bay. Jesus had sent us away to meet Him later as he finished talking to the people on the shore. While we were on the seas the waters rose up as did the winds. We fought the waters as they rocked our little boat on turbulent waters. I looked up and saw Jesus walking out on the waters. Was this Him? Was this actually Jesus or a spirit? We knew no man could walk on water let alone these angered waters. But I heard a voice coming from the figure, it said," Be of good cheer; it is I: be not afraid". I knew it was Him, I knew it was Jesus so I answered out to Him, "If it be you bid me to come to you". He simply said,"come", so I went. Boldly I left the boat and walked out to HIm. Yet the wind blew and I lost concentration on Him and began to sink. I cried out to Him and He just said,"Ye of little faith," as he reached HIs hand down to pull me up.This is the first time Jesus had said to me those words and it would not be the last. I knew it was HIm, my initial reaction was to step out take on the seas and go to Him. I have been a fisherman for a long time and taken on waves like these several times. I knew if it were Jesus then I certainly could get to Him. The wind caught my eyes and I looked away and began to sink, so I cried out to Him, I panicked! I was to find out over the next three years or so I would repeat my actions of doubt or jumping too soon.
Who am I
Later as we talked with Jesus He asked who the crowds was saying He is? We told Him some thought John the Baptist, some Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He turned His eyes upon me and asked who I said He is? I said and spoke up so all could hear me proclaim," Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." I knew who He is, I know He is the prophets one to come. He has taught us and given us authority to perform miracles in His name. So I know He is the Christ. He told us that the scribes and elders and chief priests will make Him suffer and die and He would rise again the third day. But I will not let that happen, I will not let them take my Jesus and do these things to Him. I will defend Him with my very life! But then He rebuked me. He led me to utter awe in Him by telling me I was Satan. He said to get behind Him and not to hinder His calling for this world, for this is why He came.
BACK IN THE BOAT
Another time at sea we had yet another storm, unlike any we had ever been in. We are true fishermen and know these waters and what our boat can handle. This night though was a storm like none other. Jesus was with us and even sleeping through this tempest, as we were rocking and the boat was about to be destroyed by the waves. We cried out," Master save us we perish." Jesus calmly looked at us raised His hands and said," Peace be still." The waters and wind ceased, we were all amazed. In all my times of travail in my life I cherish this moment and later in my life would look back at this several times. I learned to trust more in Him and know in my life I can go to Him and find peace and stillness.
Jesus performed so many miracles it astounded us all, everyday. HE truly wasGod on earth Immanuel, God with us. One day He took James, John and myself up a mountainside. It became an experience none of us will ever forget or get over. Jesus dropped the earthly cloak about Him and we saw the manifested God. His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. We heard a voice from a light that surrounded us say," This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him." God had spoken straight to us! We were so afraid we hid our faces from Him. Yet Jesus said for us to come and be not afraid.
In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus was praying to God the Father as the soldiers came for Him. We were all there and knew this was to be the time they would take my Jesus away. I could not look back at all He had done for me and let this cruel fate happen to Him I had to guard Him, so I took out my knife and cut the ear off one of the soldiers. I meant to get more than just his ear. But looking at me Jesus rebuked me yet again and even touched the soldier and healed his ear. The soldiers took Jesus away, in shackles like a criminal. All He did was to perform miracles healing the sick, curing the lame, giving sight to the blind. Even raising the dead. The others scattered but I had to follow. I had to see where they were taking my King, my Jesus. So I trailed them from a distance, not to be discovered. I watched as they led Him from place to place trying to blend into the crowd. There were many people out from the disturbance of the Roman soldiers. I tried to hide and watch but the crowd noticed me. They said I was one of His. Over and over people accused me and said I was a follower of HIs. I denied vehemently and even cursed before them. Then as morning was coming I heard the crowing of the cock, I knew I had wronged my Saviour. I broke down in tears begging God to forgive me, begging for another chance to see Jesus. For three years I had followed Him and stood by His side. For three years I claimed I would never let Him down but when it came to chance I denied even knowing Him. I witnessed His miracles touching people lives like no one ever before could. I saw Him display love and compassion to strangers. He always had shown grace and mercy yet I let Him down. I had failed Him so many times yet He always forgave me. Now I just denied Jesus and may never see Him again.
