Indigo Adult

Indigo children and adults is a concept that has been around since the '70’s or earlier, but it didn’t catch on until fairly recently. Indigo adults are the “Baby Boomers” of today, children born after WWI. Indigo adults have a higher level of consciousness and spirituality, and connection to earth, than the average person. It is thought that that the free spirited parents of the '60s and '70s left the path open for these children to explore with freedom, to learn with passion, thus leading to this more intelligent, thinking group of people.

The term “Indigo” usage began for these special people because it is the color of the sixth chakra, the energy chakra. Because Indigo children had such a unique energy, spiritual, if you will, air about them. The Indigo person should not be confused with the color Indigo, it is not the same thing and there is no association.

Indigo people have a special way about them, a sense of being very intelligent in many areas, but do not brag about their intelligence. Intelligence is part of their personality since birth. Indigo people do not feel that any other talent is greater than the next. Indigo people are humble. Some people have written that Indigos have the mindset that the world owes them, that they are entitled to have everything handed to them. This is simply not true. There is a generation of selfish people, but they are not Indigo or Crystal adults or children.

Indigo Adults Pave The Way

According to Celia Fenn, Indigo adults are the peacemakers, the protectors of the planet, the ones chosen to teach others to take care of the environment. Doreen Virtue , author of over 50 books and oracle cards wrote an article on Indigo children stating that often the first thing people notice about Indigos, adults or children, are the strikingly blue eyes. The blue eyes seem to have the ability to look into the soul of the person. In fact, one trait of the Indigo adult is to look in a person's eyes directly when they are speaking. This does often make the other person uneasy.

Indigo people look directly at the person with whom they are speaking because there is little, if any tolerance for lying. Do not lie to an Indigo adult, most have the ability to see right through it, for they know that the eyes are the window to the soul.

Crystal adults are much like Indigo adults but in a quieter manner. Indigos forge the path for the Crystal adults, burning through all the red tape and working out the problems. The Crystal adults then come in and fine polish everything, for example. Indigo adults are ones that think differently, and often, so may be confused with an adult with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). They may talk a lot because they have so many ideas going on in their head at once. The difference between ADD/ADHD and Indigo is that the Indigo person can concentrate very well on a subject that they are interested in. The Indigo person may even find it harder to concentrate on a subject that bores them then the average person. They would much rather be studying something else after all.

Strikingly Blue Eyes

How Do You Know If You Are an Indigo Adult?

In order to determine if you are an Indigo adult, you must match almost all of the criteria, since you were a child:

  • Look intently at the person you are talking to.
  • Often, but not always, have blue, penetrating eyes
  • Talent with computers or other technology
  • Know what you want out of life
  • Strong creative mind
  • Strong desire to protect the planet or change the world in some way
  • Have a lot of ideas, logical thought processes and perhaps been told you had ADD/ADHD
  • Prefer to work alone than in a team, or prefer to be a leader
  • Dislike of repetitive work
  • Strong intuition, have a way of “knowing” when the phone will ring etc…
  • Experience depression
  • Empathic, sensing others emotions or being emotionally sensitive
  • May cause electronics to malfunction just by standing near them (or sitting, sometimes just walking by)
  • Feel temperamental, may have problems with rage
  • Deep concern over the rights of others, equality and fairness for all
  • Dislike outdated systems of thinking
  • Sexually expressive or reject sexual activity to study, for example
  • Psychic or other deep, personally spiritual experience, out of body experience, seeing ghosts at a young age.
  • Feeling that there is another universe or dimension, parallel or otherwise
  • Consistent need to understand why you exist, why you are here.

True Indigo

In order to be considered a true Indigo person you must have 95-100% of these traits. For example, you are not necessarily gifted with technology and you do not have rage issues but you fit everything else, rest assured, you are an Indigo person. If you have brown eyes instead of blue, but fit everything else, you are an Indigo.

Discovering that you are in Indigo person can be very enlightening. Suddenly your different ways of thinking are all making sense. With that worry out of the way, you are now freer to explore the other thoughts running through your mind. Write them down, keep track. You never know, your idea may just be what the planet has been waiting for.

I hardly ever have depression, unless someone is bothering me. I've always understood music theory, and can play almost any instrument I want to. I've had so many "supernatural" experiences in my life, including flash light healing, contact with beings, intuitions. My son, when he was young, could place his hand on a book and know what was in it. He speaks many languages now, without lessons. I don't know what I am, but I am a people lover and I love designing things with colors and materials recycled and originally used for something else. I write my own music. I also manifest things that I need, and know that most humans can do the same things. They just don't seem to know it yet.

I no longer have my website where I engaged in conversations on the subjects I write about. I sustained a disabling injury that prevents me from typing very fast or for any length. :-( I am not aware of any others with active conversations.

I am glad I could help you! I understand how you feel. When all the pieces fell in place for me it was electrifying! My great-grandmother had said I was an Indigo child but did not know what that meant. I was little and forgotten about it until I was reading her letters as an adult. My research began. It is liberating. Good for you!! Embrace yourself and go forth with knowledge that you are not weird, or odd, you are Indigo!

I am 100% indigo. My first encounter with indigo related anything was last night. After reading my first article i got electricity running up my back and neck lasting for about 15 minuets. I had to go into a bathroom and do breathing exercises because it freaked me out so good. Had a hard time sleeping last night. The indigo life center nailed my life exactly.

ADD. all my life. i still see ghosts or entities . And i have vivid dreams. I also have bad problems with electronics . And i read peoples thoughts and minds some times. I'm the happiest i have ever been now. knowing why the things that have happened to me in my life where all for a reason. Thank you for bringing peace to my life. I feel a giant weight has been lifted off my chest.

The earlier people that talked about Indigos said that it was the early 60s (my time of birth). I have read that Crystals are from your year but I do not believe that. I have met far too many Indigos that were born after the mid-70s and like yourself have all the signs of Indigo. Crystals are more quiet, but share many of the same traits, they take in others emotions more than the Indigo who has an easier time focusing past a person's emotions. You sound like an Indigo. You will be able to feel more organized as time goes on, as you learn how to live with those traits. :-) It can be freeing realizing that being different and not fitting in is a very good thing. You sound like you have some really good gifts.

Hi! What years of birth would it make you an indigo ? I was born in 1979 I have always felt like it was hard to fit in with others at school always felt alone and different and I have most of the traits in the list but I don't have ADD maybe slight dyslexia in some subjects and I didn't do well at school but I went on to do A levels later on in life I get easily bored with routine and I flit from different subjects in conversations. I've had some dreams that have come true and I've had contact with angels but I was feeling very down at the time I've also felt ghosts touch me or shadowy figures just recently. I've had alarms go off on buildings when I've walked past and a street lamp went out when I walked past and sometimes other technology malfunctions on me I can suffer rage sometimes I don't like how corrupt this world is or conforming to others behaviours love being alone I love animals and nature does this make me an indigo? I also have a feeling that I've come here to do something but I don't know what I get a feeling something big is going to happen and I don't like it at all sometimes I get depressed and feel like I just want to go home

Crystal and Indigo share many of the same traits. It is possible to be on the cusp, so to speak, of two. If you are 100% Crystal and 95% Indigo, this sounds like your time of birth was so close to both. This is a good thing and not that uncommon. You can tap into which one is best for the situation, the Crystal or Indigo.

Hi, I am over 95% Indigo, 100% Crystal. Have not checked out any others quite yet. Is it possible i fit into more than one?

Thanks for the article, I do share many of the traits you described except the blue eye since I am a Chinese, nor the malfunctioning of electronic devices.

This one touches me - “Deep concern over the rights of others, equality and fairness for all”… I can’t help myself from feeling the pain when I see the Earth and all the beings are struggling and suffering. Why the world becomes like this as today? it should not be … Don’t know what to do with this feeling of heaviness … ... pray for the ending of all the suffering …

That is ok about not being good with technology. You most likely excel in other areas such as pronouncing odd words, understanding animals or something else others do not. Indigo people are "different" than others, feel they do not fit in because their thought processes are different. I am sure you are Indigo if you got everything but the one! You do not have to have blue eyes though many teachings about Indigo insist that is a defining trait. In my experience in working with Indigos, eye color is not as defining as once thought.

My best friend recently mentioned Indigo children to me & I'm finding this all very interesting & weird @ the same time. Must be a real phenomenon. I've also been researching auras which led me back to Indigo adult. On the quiz I got EVERYTHING except for good with technology. In fact I don't like it & feel like I was born in the wrong era. Interesting about the malfunctioning of electronics, had this trouble my whole life.

I agree! I wrote about the blue eyes because that is what is emphasized in my research but I did mention in the article that I believe that if you have the other traits the eye color does not matter.

I'm an African Indian Scottish i have noticeably brown eyes but I have all the traits and for the eye thing I don't think it matters .

As long as you match the others you are indigo!!!

"something in you healed as you talked to her. :-)"

That is indeed a correct statement. My other research indicates that my instincts: to ignore, be positive, have no fear, are all spot on. I feel it is/was more of a pest than malignant. Thank you very much for the response. You have helped me continue to move past this.

Hello, Carolyn, I agree that most Indigos can see spirits or energies, and I feel that you did have one hovering around you as you spoke to her. Her pain was caused by the spirit but left when she left. I feel that it was no longer interested in you because you let go of the negative energy that it was thriving on. Once that energy was gone, it had nothing to feed on. Chances are, it left for another person. Although the issue with your parents may not be resolved, something in you healed as you talked to her. :-)

An indigo adult recently called me out of the blue after having my card fall out of her pile of business cards. She has a life changing, spiritual story to share. I shared a recent estrangement after a visit from my parents like ended very, very ugly followed by a ghost encounter. While telling her story to me, we had normal eye contact. While I was relaying my story, she had her head down with her hand shading her face. She saw the "attachment" hovering over my shoulder as well as a red light reflecting through the lens of my glasses. I was not surprised, but at the same time, other than looking for something in any reflective surface for months, I feel no different. Thoughts? She said any indigo could see what she saw. She also got a sharp pain in her stomach as we hugged and said goodbye...she said it did not like her telling me about it. She would not give me a second hug, but said when I smiled at her the pain immediately stopped. Needless to say, I am curious.

Naomi, you are welcome. I also have ADD and have found it to be more of a gift than a curse. :) I do believe I chose to be ADD too. I have found that most Indigo people I have come in contact with are also found to be ADD.

Thank you for your reply! :) I agree, I suppose Indigos have ranges depending on their upbringing and which culture they are from but they probably know deep within that they are Indigo if they are. In my country(Japan), intense eye contact is considered rude and people are less expressive with their emotions, but I agree with you that eyes are windows to the souls as you can communicate animals or small children without words but just by looking into their eyes. :) I was actually researching about ADD traits as I have it, but was feeling that ADD is a gift and I probably chose to have it on purpose, and found lots of website that is saying Indigos have similar traits, and your site was one of them. It is encouraging for people like me. Thanks again!! :)

In my studies, I learned that Indigo people typically have the blue eyes, but in my personal research I have met those that have that same intense, different intellect that is the "mark" of the Indigo. I believe that race and eye color do not make a difference. I am an Indigo child/adult and do not have rage issues, but I have met some that do. It is a difference in personality and upbringing. If you feel you are an Indigo, but do not feel comfortable staring into someone's eyes, do you deeply sense what they are feeling? Not everyone can look a person in their eyes, it is sometimes seen as disrespectful or as a challenge to fight. :) You do not have to have 100% of the qualities, only 90% to be considered Indigo.

I had the same question with Kristy. I am Asian so I don't have blue eyes. So what about asians or africans who don't have blue eyes?(Aren't there indigos all over the world with all sorts of races, or is it just for Caucasians...?) and I don't think I look people's eyes intently ( just natural) and I have no problem with rage ( I don't get angry easily but rather feel saddened) but all of the other traits apply to me.

      Thanks for the insight :)

Kristy, Although everything in my studies says you have to make the eye contact and have blue eyes, I believe that if you have more matching traits than not, you can be considered Indigo. :-)

I really would like to know whether I am an Indigo or not. The past four sites I've went to I've had either all or the base majority of these traits. This is the first site I've seen that says Indigos have blue eyes... I don't have blue eyes and I don't make eye contact with others, however the rest of the traits apply to me, and always have.

I'm 18 at the moment and I've always been fascinated by Indigo Children, since I was about ten or so, but I've never even fathomed that I could be one...it would mean so much to me. If there are any Indigos or other likewise or knowledgeable people that would be willing to talk to me, please do so.
