Is Christianity the Only True Religion?--Part 3

Updated on September 29, 2010

In determining which religion we can trust, we have looked at the holy book of Christianity and have found that it stands out in several ways. This distinguishes the Bible from any other holy book (Part 2). We have also seen that the founder of Christianity is unique to the world's religions (Part 2). Let us now consider a third way that Christianity stands above religion.

The message of the Bible, both Old and New Testament, centers around the cross of Christ. The writer of Hebrews says in chapter 9:22, "...without shedding of blood is no remission."This is the primary difference between Christianity and the other 2,000+ religions of the world. It was Christ, Emmanuel, God in the flesh that purchased our redemption on the cross as He bled and died for mankind.

Our ability to have a relationship with the God of Heaven is based solely on the work of Christ. On the other hand, every other religion becomes a matter of man trying to work his way to God. According to religion, salvation depends on man's doing. Christianity depends completely on what God already did for us. In short, religion is a matter of man's ability to earn God's favor. Christianity is a matter of what God did to reach man.

Check it out. There is absolutely no other religion where the founder has laid down his life for his followers to provide salvation. It is the cross that separates Christianity from all other religion. It was the difference of God's great love (John 3:16) versus our great sin (Romans 3:23). God proved His love by pointing to the cross.

Christianity is the only religion with a supernatural holy book. Christianity is the only religion where God Himself claims to be the founder. Christianity is the only religion where the founder sacrifices himself for his followers. Christianity is also the only religion where the founder sacrifices himself for his followers and then resurrects himself.

Simon Greenleaf, a Harvard law professor, set out to disprove the resurrection. What he found was that there was more than enough circumstantial evidence in Scripture alone to prove in a court of law that Christ actually did raise from the dead. I am not writing to prove resurrection. I may do that at some point. I am writing to show the uniqueness of Christianity. Consider Acts 1:3, "To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God." You may also want to check out Matthew 17:9, Hebrews 12:2, and I Corinthians 15:1-8).

Eye witnesses of the resurrection abounded. There was Mary, and the Disciples. Jesus was seen by over 500 people at once. We have the fact of the empty tomb which was guarded with the life of the Roman guards. Perhaps the best testimony to resurrection was the changed lives of the apostles.

Peter is the perfect example. Before the crucifixion Peter denied the Lord three times, fearful for his own life. After the resurrection he was transformed into one of the most powerful preachers that ever lived. What about Paul? Constantly harassing and persecuting Christians, his encounter with the resurrected Lord changed the Gentile world forever. No other religious founder ever conquered death by resurrection.

Jesus Christ is what makes the difference. He claims to be the only way (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; John 3:16; Romans 10:9; I Peter 3:15). His claim to be God in the flesh is the focal point of the Christian holy book. He is the founder of Christianity unlike any other religious leader. He sacrificed Himself for His followers and then conquered death by His own resurrection. Out of 2,000 differing religions, only one can be true. Christianity stands above all others. That is the greatness of God.

IN CHRISTIANITY, SALVATION IS OPTIONAL THAT IS,A CHOICE NOT BY FORCE. BUT IN OTHER IS BY FORCE. TO GOD BE THE GLORY THAT BY HIS GRACE HE MADE THOSE WHO HAVE BELIEVED WILLING TO BELIEVES

      SirDent,

Thanks for stopping by. Truth is truth whether it is believed or rejected. Truth stands in, and of, and by itself. It needs no argument. It simply calls us to believe. We can also believe a lie as many do, but that doesn't change the truth. I'm glad you have come to see through the lies and to see see Truth.

"Our ability to have a relationship with the God of Heaven is based solely on the work of Christ."

      AMEN!!!!

"On the other hand, every other religion becomes a matter of man trying to work his way to God."

      Tower of Babel anyone?

I love this hub. It shows truth to all who can see and those who seek truth for the sake of knowing truth.

Then there are those who seek to destroy truth. These are the ones who deny Christ. They are of the spirit of anitchrist.

      CJ,

I'm sorry you feel that way. Truth is sometimes hard to see when it's right before our eyes.

"Check it out. There is absolutely no other religion where the founder has laid down his life for his followers to provide salvation."

This would be all very well if there was a hint of truth in your assertion. Unfortunately the story of Jesus is as mythological in origin as any of the previous godmen from whom his story is derived: Mithras, Osiris, Dionysis, etc etc, who all were born as men, who all died and were resurrected, who were all redeemers to their followers, who all had 12 disciples, who all performed miracles etc. The problem with your analysis is that it is born from a an already existing conviction that what you say is the absolute truth, regardless of any evidence, so I don't suppose you will pay any attention to this either.

You have stated it all so well. It's certainly not a religion but a relationship and a personal one with the Author of it Himself. No other "religion" can make such a claim. God bless.

Yes, yes, the great humility of suffering on the pole for the remissions of sins of the whole human race is unique and aligned perfectly with the whole of Scripture. To deny the Son is to deny the Father - for they are One. Peace.

      V.

If anyone honestly and openly tries to find God they will. That's what happened to Simon Greenleaf.

      Yes Fred,

      He is Lord.

      Deadbeat,

Actually Christianity isn't a religion. It is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and it's wonderful. Here's hoping that you too will be able to share in that relationship someday soon.

      Hello Lifegate,

I have heard of Simon Greenleaf, and it is such a powerful message to know that in trying to disprove God and His Word, he ran into a wall. He found that God IS God. Hallelujah!

A wonderful hub, Lifegate, to the Glory of God.

May God bless you, today and always.
